Before I buy them has anyone had any experience with them? I keep frying the tweeters on the stock Clarion 6 1/2" speakers. I wanted to keep the stock white looking grilles but seeing that the new Sea Rays have these as an option I feel better about using them. They handle a few more watts and look pretty cool. I'm just replacing the 4 in the cockpit and possibly the sub to match. Plan on ordering them tomorrow so help! Also is the stock sub 10" or 12" ??? Forgot to measure!
Here is the link to them.

I don't know about the Clarions, but the more recent Sea Rays came with Panasonics. The cutout was too big to mount the Polk Momos (I think it was 5.5" and the Polk 6.5" speakers require a 5" cutout).

Measure your cutouts before you order.

Also, you may be blowing the tweeters because you are driving them with too little (or too dirty) power. What is your amplification?

Setup is factory Clarion amp, 6.5" 2-way speakers and subwoofer circa '98. Cutouts for speakers measured 5". Did not remove the sub to measure (don't know why!)

I had went back and forth between Polk and JL Audio and finally decided to go with JL audio and am extremely pleased. Prior to buying them from Crutchfield you shoud check with Jim as he offers both if I am not mistaken and you are supporting the board.

I will mention that the hole on the stock speakers were actually bigger than I needed for the 6.5 Jl Audio speakers (due to the grill) so they ended up having to do some custom work with a piece of marine wood.

Got my MMC 650's off e-bay. Better price, brand new in box, and stunning sound.

Good luck, Tom

You should remove one of your stock speakers and check the size. Mine were 6.75" Panasonics on my 2003 SD. I bought 6.5" MoMo's thinking they would be a direct replacement, they were not. I ended up buying Polk 6.75" Db's. They sounded great with a Rockford Fosgate 50x4 pushing them.
I do know Infiniti makes a 6.75". I am not sure what other brands that may make them.
Remember the old saying "measure twice cut once"
Good Luck
Bob

Thanks for the mention Wes. I can kill Crutchfield on JL but they can't be beat on Polk. Their Polk prices are very good

Did not remove the sub to measure (don't know why!)

When I removed the 10" sub from my 370DA, the hole was 9", when I installed the 12" sub to replace it, I had to enlarge the hole to 11".

I installed KICKERS, they have a 6.5 that ifts the hole perfect, and you will not find a better speaker. I've herd the polks and well, they don't even compare to these KICKERS... I got them from Curcuit City, but you can get themfrom crutchfield also, I beleive. If not go their site,www,kicker.com.. check out their Marine speakers, turst me I have their 10" sub too and their 5 channel amp....wow what a system, I haven't taken it loud enough to distort yet, I'm afraid to, my ears might never be the same....

I just put a new JL Audio amp in the boat and was disappointed with the sound from the 4 speakers in the boat. I was thinking they were Clarions but when I pulled one off to look I found that it was a panansonic speaker. I had never heard of panasonic making speakers so I did an internet search on them and the ONLY hit I had was from their own web site. Must be an OEM only manufacturer because they don't seem to offer them aftermarket. No problem until I read the specs. While the speakers say 160 watt on them I see they are only rated at 20 watt rms - very weak. Also the efficiency on these speakers is only 86 db which is not comparable to any other speakers on the market. To add insult to injury Sea Ray mounts these crappy speakers in a 5 5/8" hole which eliminates the other 6.5" speakers such as infiniti as a replacement option.

Oh well I had been wanting to put some JL Audio 7.7 " speakers in but couldn't get myself over the cost and need to drill larger wholes. So I pulled the trigger and ordered a couple of set from Jim. I'm looking forward to getting them in but am concerned about the upholstery on the port side in the cockit. Anyone have any experience in putting these speakers in a 240 SD?

How do you like the sound of the MB Quarts? Was this a noticable improvement over the stock speakers?

Stock sub in our 1995 330 is a 10".

I recently replaced the sub with a Kenwood Marine Sub, very nice. I replaced the 4 outside 6.5's with new Clarions, very nice. I also added a 2nd amp dedicated to the sub, very nice. I also replaced the factory Clarion Head Unit with a Pioneer with 2 AUX, 1 USB for the IPod and I added a digital XM Tuner. The Pioner handles all of them, and again, very nice.

Note the factory Clarion amp on ours drove the 4 outside speakers and the sub. The 4 speakers ran off a bridge. The speakers are paralleled. The sub was bridged also. So it's a 4 channel amp, 2 channels bridged to the sub and 2 channels bridged to the 4 6.5s. This meant total power for each of the 4 speakers was 15 watt each, 30 for the sub. So I added a dedicated amp for the sub and then bridged the existing sub so now each outside speaker gets 30 watts. Made a big difference.

I purchased everything from Crutchfied since we live in VA! Do some research on bridging and paralleling and all of this will make sense to you.

Did you have any problems pulling the covers off. I tried to pull one of mine with no luck. It seemed like it has a seal. I'm looking to upgrade mine as well.

Yes I did but then I learned you have to rotate them clockwise to remove them.

Momo's on order, should see them tomorrow. EXCITED! Now you guys got me thinking about the crappy stock amp! And its burried in the cabinetry to boot so I can't readily inspect it.

I heard some Momo's that were installed in a 320 with a 10" sub....I thought they sounded awesome. I really like the look of of the grills on the Momo's and the Pold DB's. I saw on another boat, they had painted the grill on the Momo's to match the interior of their boat.

Painting the grilles, I didn't even think of that! I'm in the autobody repair business and that would be easy. Seeing that I wanted to keep the "factory" look. Hmm now another thing to think about! Now how would I match the yellowed/weathered 10 year old interior???
They should be here today, I hope!

PS. The interior isn't shot...it's just you don't realize how much the color changes till you have something thats brand new and bright white!

Are you kidding? MB Quart is, arguably, one of the best speaker manufacturers in the world. They are produced with the standard ethic of German engineering with the best of materials available in the industry. Get the Premiums on line, drop them in, and let your boat rock. You don't need the latest version. If money is a factor, get last year's model you will not be disappointed. When you install them, unless you are deaf or love the high's, tune the tweeters down about 3 notches using the crossovers (provided) due to the extremely efficient titanium domes.
