OFFICIAL 390/40 Motor Yacht Thread

Just started this project (well, started paying somebody to do this project). Am replacing all of the salon, aft cabin, and forward cabin with vinyl planks -- leaving the galley flooring alone. Will post pics once it's a little further along. Initial obstacles: floor underneath the carpet is very uneven. Will require some grinding and then likely 1/4" of subfloor. Floor in the forward cabin will need subfloor to stay even with the galley flooring.

If u don’t mind what will approx total cost be.

Roger, that is fantastic! Always wanted Seadek on the boat. Did you do the template already, or did they have one already? Keep me posted on if you find someone local that can pull that beast and bottom paint it! I understand on the Satellite upgrade. The current system had enough channels for my wife and I, but did not provide the full suite of channels or high definition. If we would have kept the boat, probably would have done the same myself. Would love to see the boat once you get the Seadek in! Glad all is going well with the boat!
Rob
I missed this rob, they had the template.
If my guy gets his trailer over to my sons shop pulling it shouldn’t be a problem. If not it’s a Cruz to Cincy.

Hard to say - I'm having my contractor tackle a number of projects simultaneously and we just calculated a quote based on total time. So for about 2 weeks of work, I'm going to end up paying ~$13k, but this will include the labor for: flooring and subfloor throughout (minus the galley), installation of Aquamarine Deck up top, replacing the TVs with new placement and hanging of mounted units, creation of some built in shelves, re-sealing some seams on the hull that were letting water in, some AC work. For reference, I live in San Diego area, so your labor costs may vary. I also just purchased this boat at a good price with the intention of having this work done.

Does anyone tow a dinghy with their boat? If so how is that working out?
I purchased a towdster for towing but will not get to try it out until warm weather.

I was curious on the Towdster as I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with my Walker Bay if I am able to move forward on the Sedan Bridge I have been looking at. I was ultimately wanting a Sea Lift platform, but not liking the price tag. The Towdster looks interesting. Have you done research beyond the videos or talked to anyone that has used it?

Rob I did call Towdster and he assured me it would work. I already have it here
At the house. His assurances dosen’t mean anything but $700 looks good compared to everything else. We are going to tow a seadoo and dingy.
Going Thursday to somerset Ky to look at a walkerbay generation and venture.
I will be happy towing at cocktail speed and as you know our conditions on the water is never really bad.

So little recap on the cabin light switch out to led. In my boat the cabin light fixtures were different then the aft cabin lights . Therefore required different bulbs. The G4 disc led with back pins will not work in the cabin light fixtures but work fine in the aft cabin. What did you guys use in the cabin ? Is this the same as your fixtures ?

JM I used the same in all cabin lights , this includes reading lights and the head lights. There was 33 total on my 2004 390my.

I am confused , those disc type LEDs fit everything on the boat below deck. This dosen’t include the lights in the steps and engine room.

Yes sir.

I dropped #4 exhaust valve seat last Nov. around $22,500 to fix it. The head was superseded around 2006. New part number is 4942463. A TSB was issued, the title was valve seat material change. So, After 6 pistons, sleeves, bearings, head and turbo get changed, I’m changing the head on the other side, cost will be around 6k. I have insurance for mechanical failure which paid to fix most of the damage. Engines have about 1300 hrs. All work being done with the boat in the water, only had to jack the back of the engine to get the oil pan off.

So $22k to do all that work but excluding changing the other head right? Sounds all too familiar. Going through the same thing right now myself. Thank you for the info. Helpful to know if can be done in the boat. Any photos ?

Yep 22 to fix it, insurance paid 18. Got the motor mounts loosened yesterday, enough room to jack the engine to remove the pan, fortunately no metal. Pulling pistons and sleeves next week

Wow that’s very reasonable. I was seeing estimates almost double that up here for virtually same work. Where are you located ? Is marina doing the work ? Did you remove your engine batches or doing it all under neath. That’s pretty cool oil pan can be pulled by just lifting the motor a little. I didn’t think that be possible plus to install new bearing and rod caps back on without raising motor up.

I’m on the Chesapeake and no the marina is not doing the work. East Coast Diesel, Rudi is. Where are U

PS, we jacked the engine a bit to get the pan off, just enough to do the job.
