Sounds like it could it be the air idle control valve.

Excuse my ignorance but what is a TPS?

How are you getting the codes, through a scan device attached to the motor or via the Sea Ray systems monitor?

Need help!! After running for an hour or so, and after coming off of plane, my port engine starts this weird surging thing. The alarm will sound momentarily and every once in a while the TPS1 No Adapt code will flash. The code says that the TPS is bad so I've changed it twice now and still the same issue. Any other ideas??

There are a series of relays next to the CPU board, one of them in that Rely. It's relatively easy to replace. I believe there are 4 in series, you could swap one and see if the error moves, or goes away.

Dave, you are STILL the 380DA encyclopedia!

Well 12 years of ownership, will do that. I can't think of a single system I didn't have to work on. Most of the assistance I received came from this forum.

Has anyone upgraded original fresh water pump? I heard the new ones are quieter and have better pressure. I think mine is rated at 45 psi and 3.3 gpm. Thanks

As you say, a TPS code is not always triggered by a faulty TPS switch. Possible suspects include : Crank Position Sensor, MAP(Manifold absolute pressure) Sensor, Mass Airflow Sensor, or in rare instances Ignition, or Control Module issues. The question to ask yourself is who monitors the TPS to be sure it is not lying? Filthy spark arrestors, clogged up throttle bodies, broken vacuum lines letting air into the manifold around the Mass Airflow sensor, can all lead other components to believe the Throttle is not as open, or closed, as the TPS switch is indicating. If the crank sensor is functioning but incorrect it will not show RPM increasing and decreasing properly as a response to the throttle, and the Control module might interpret that as the TPS being incorrect. A scanner, such as the Rinda Diacom Marine, can be very handy in these situations because you can look at the data stream and see who is out of step.

All very valid points and since I don't own, nor am I considering buying, a scan tool this has gone from the DIY bin to the had it over to the pros bin. Thanks again for the input though.

I must admit Ron convinced me to buy a Scan tool, and that made finding engine problems real easy. Now finding a issue and fixing it are 2 separate issues. In almost all cases, I had to ask advice on this forum as to where the device was, and how to replace it.

But in the end it more then paid for the Scan tool, which I later sold, so as boat items purchases go, it was a good investment.
I wish there was one for a John Deere engine...

You just did. Just respond with your question.

Does anyone know the load capacity on the swim platform( 2003/ 380) . Thinking of installing a Seaweed roller system with a Grand 340 tender. Aprox 370 Lbs

I've not seen anything in the Owner's Manual regarding this. I suspect the load in rough conditions would damage the hull. I wouldn't put that kind of weight on mine. My recommendation is to contact Sea Ray for something official. Good luck.

Don
