Official 380 Thread

Thanks guys I will check again this morning to see where the cable comes out. My 34 has the same radar and did not have the spacer. I understand the 5 degree down angle but since I haven't had this in the water yet not sure if I will need that. Will be dropping it in hopefully the last week of April provided all the ice is gone up here in balmy Buffalo.

When you really really need your radar, you are in 99% of the time not going faster than 10MPH.
So adding a spacer is useless...

Can you post a picture of your dash with the Raymarine A50d. I'd like to replace the 300, without having to doing major surgery to the dash.

Your modifications look great, did the new panel come pre-cut for the instruments, or just re-cut for the switches.

Here are the pictures

Any simple ideas? By simple I guess I am referring to low cost problems? I have Horizons 8.1s 370 horsepower

Anyway went for a short trip yesterday, was cruising at around 3200 RPM, when this happened

"Starboard Engine Alarm Diagnostics" went off. I had been watching the gauges all were normal, , not overheating or low oil pressure, etc

I raised the hatch had a quick look, serpentine belt still on, nothing appeared amiss

Restarted the engine it cranked right up, started cruising again to see if gauges would change, they did not, but after one minute.

I get this on the Smart Craft Panel with an audible beep, CORRECTION: It is the Sea Ray systems monitoring system, not Smart Craft.

"Starboard Engine Alarm Diagnostics" beep
"All systems normal"
"Starboard Engine Alarm Diagnostics" beep

Then another minute goes by and I receive it again.

"Starboard Engine Alarm Diagnostics" beep
"All systems normal"
"Starboard Engine Alarm Diagnostics" beep

Gauges still read good.

I have turned around by this time and I am heading back to my slip.

Message now comes every 30 seconds, gauges still show good readings.

Any ideas and does anyone have a picture showing where the Smart Craft cable connects to the engines? CORRECTION: I still need to know this though, as the engines are Smart Craft enabled, I am wondering if the Sea Ray System Monitor is connected to the same. I have read somewhere able the wiring harness causing some System Monitor alarms

Thanks

Nice installation. I like the way it looks. It'll be nice to get rid of the 300. How how did you wire it?

I have the Raystar 125 and I run the RN300 in slave mode.

Also did you hook your Autopilot to it, or is it still connected to the RL80c?

Thanks for posting the pictures

Psuedomind.....are sure you are talking about smartcraft or are you talking about your systems monitor which is shown in your pics above. Although the 2002 8.1 380's didn't come from the factory with a smartcraft SV500, the motors are smartcraft ready. However, I don't see a SV500 in your pics above. Did you add a SV500 somewher?

You are correct it is the Sea Ray Systems Monitor system.
Thanks

I have been wanting to get some type of Smart Craft monitoring system installed and I am slowly looking as to what I can do, since the engines are Smart Craft ready, I have been toying with the idea of a smaller (yes another chart plotter from NorthStar) as it has the Engine pages and will supposedly interface with a multiplexer type plug to the Smart Craft.

I did not install it I had it installed, but I will see if I can get you an answer. I know I also had my old GPS replaced with the 125 and it is connected to the A50D, and the RL 80 CRC is also connected to it, the GPS.

There was a similar problem on my boat and I didn't immediately find the source.

There are two sets of transducers / switches for the oil and water. one for the dash gauges, one for the monitor.

On mine, the connector was broken for the monitor, but okay for the gauge. A new connector was installed and all has been good.

The monitor is wired to the ignition, oil, transmission and water on each engine.

It is also wired to the bilge pumps and high water switch.

Also the generator ignition and oil.

There are many other unused inputs, like exhaust temps, fuel filter conds, service engines soon, cat diags and so on.

On my 380 I moved the systems monitor and put the SC500 in it's place. The wiring was little bit of a pain, but it worked out well...

Could you perhaps be a bit more specific about this connector and its location. I can only find one connector plug in the Sea Ray supplemental manual which shows both the water and oil lines going out it,

So my reasoning is if the gauge is working, there must be a split going to the monitor. so is the broken connector you mention located where the wire connects to the panel?

Thanks

This was on the engine.

There was a visible oil pressure sender, that was the focus of my attention.

There is a second switch underneath the intake manifold, as I recall. That was the one w/ the broken connector.

There are also two for water. The transmission is very visible.

Yours may conect to the engine ECU. Mine doesn't.

When I tested mine, my notes don't show any messages like you have.

The engine may need to be interrogated to find the problem.

If you are comfortable pulling apart your dash, I would check to see if there is a loose or broken connection at system monitor. You said earlier you had the A50d installed. It wouldn't be the first time, a wire came un-done from someone working behind the dash.

Does anyone know where I can find an owners manual for download (.pdf) for a 2004 380DA. Sea Rays' web site has the addendum but not the actual manual. I think I've located all of the owners manuals for the electronics (raymarine) but I cannot locate the important ones for the boat, engines (8.1's) and genny (Kohler 7.3). Any help would be appreciated.

As near as I can find out, my serpentine belt lost some tension, which allowed the alternator not to fully charge the battery, the battery voltage dropped, by about two volts, the fuel pump relay de-energized, causing the engine to shut down.. I was able to restart the engine and I had looked at the belt, but only to make sure it was not broken, and it was turning as were the other pulleys.

The low battery voltage coupled with it not charging is what triggered the System Monitor, as the belt was loose, apparently the battery was not charging back up, or this could be coupled to the fact, when the engine died, I did not turn off the Starboard engine key, thus resetting the System Monitor. I just restarted the engine from the helm switch, which is part of the reason the system monitor kept going off, along with the loose belt.

Good to hear you resolved the problem.
Was the belt squealing at all before the alarm went off?

Is the 2003 owners manual available, or even the 2002, they are very close to yours. I was aside of a 2004 last year, and except for the systems monitor, and generator, Kohler verses Westerbeke, the boats were similar. As for the generator and 8.1's your need to purchase them from Kohler and Merc.

No from just looking it appeared normal, but it was a good bit loose, about one inch at vertical center below the alternator, but again not noticeable unless one pressed on it, and it is also not weathered or appears dry rotted. Marina Mechanic stated it was good.

I sure would like to have a computer system to use to make my own checks with, the system monitor basically does but a little good.
