Official 380 Thread

Brian, nice job w/ the install.

An added plus is securing the CSR Troll of Approval.

The Icom M602 was selected to replace the Ratheon VHF. The Ratheon was useless. The Icom permits clear understanding of weak signals amid lots of hash. (Sorry pot head, hash, not hashish.)

Looks great. That E80 looks a lot better than the E120's people try to cram in there.

You happy with that ICOM VHF? I'm thinking of ditching my Raymarine POS for that radio... Plus it matches my ICOM SSB.

Gary, I did swap the raycrap (probably the same model as yours) for the Icom, you won't be sorry.

Who's the one trolling?

No high ground for you
This is the Wild, Wild, West.

There was almost no support for my request to change the rules to prohibit trolling and to prohibit unnamed insults. (The effect of that request is that named insults are now also permitted.)

The three tools I've used for dealing with this troll are to ignore the idiot, identify the idiocy and reply.

A recent tally shows ~30% of the content posted by this juvenile is trolling directed against one member. Maybe this is flirting, but I'm not interested.

Don't you realize no one cares about you or your cool mods.....Go away. You are useless......

Earlier in this thread there was talk about that wonderful piece of electronics, the RN300 (yeah right!)- I needed to replace my dash panels, so I also replaced the RN300 with the new Raymarine A50. I also have a Raymarine E80, so the A50 will serve as a backup and additional screen (The A50 also has a built in GPS antenna in case the E80/ Raystar 125 GPS antenna should fail). My E80, A50 and pilot are all now connected through NMEA.

I had Scott Cambra from Vector Imaging do the dash panels with led back lighting- he did a great job.

Brian

I really like the look of the LED switch illumination, due you by chance have a close up installation shot

Does anyone know if the gas and diesel dash layout panel is different for the diesel versus gas engines or did they change them in the 2002 year models

My left hand panel is much larger, the panel where you have your E120 installed

Look here at this link I have since replaced my Raynav300 on the far right with a RayMarine A50d to include a thruogh-hull transducer. I can also activate the internal GPS as a back up if needed

Thanks

Can you post a picture of your dash with the Raymarine A50d. I'd like to replace the 300, without having to doing major surgery to the dash.

Your modifications look great, did the new panel come pre-cut for the instruments, or just re-cut for the switches.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I've reviewed the content you've posted.

Could you please identify any useful information that you've provided?

Thank you.

Let's get back on track...

Dom: My autopilot is below the E80, just outside the picture- in 2001, the 380 chartplotter panel is different than what was in 2002 (and up).

Pseudomind: I do not have a closeup pic of the panel LED's, but I can take one. Basically, Scott laser cut the switch labels and then installed an LED strip- I think it came out real professional and would recommend him for panel work.

DC380: I sent Scott my panels and he returned new ones with switch cutouts, guage cutouts and LED lit labels. I asked him not to cut anything for the electronics since I was adding the A50. The electronics installer did the rest.

Mr. Clavin... you can add "I add negative value" to yours... right above the copyright notice.

On another topic for all the 380 folks. How many of you with open array radar have a 2" spacer installed betwen the pedestal and the arch. I have to put this back up there when I hit the water and since it is new to me with this boat I wanted to see why or who has this as well. I don't have any pic's of it and they are not tapered to angle it down. So wanted to know if I should just install it on the arch without these. Probably would look better. I have seen some ad pic's for 380's and it looked like some had these but was hard to tell.

I have the spacers. The antenna wire is centered under the unit, so I need the spacer. Are you sure you can install and wire the unit without the spacers?

I will take a picture this weekend, mine just does fit and you can also still install a C-map card. I went ahead and had a through-hull transducer installed. It so far seems to work just as well as the transducer I have connected to my RL80. The internal GPS even connects under the tin roof of the dock. I typically just use the external GPS, but thought I would give the internal a test.

I like having the A50D which is the fish finder model. This gives me a second depth finder. Th A50D comes with a transom mount transducer, which I did not use, I purchased a separate through hull transducer for around $100.00.

So if you are not interested in this option the A50 does not have the fish finder and is about $100.00 cheaper.

Searay Chuck - I assume you are talking about the spacers made from Starboard? I removed mine and made polished stainless ones. I think my cable does come out underneath the radar so you probably do have to have some kind of spacer there.

This image shows the custom 5° wedges I made for my open array pedastle.

This angle was chosen to offset the bow rise when underway, to have a level array when underway.

The Ratheon 4KW open array that came w/ the boat and the 4KW Raymarine open array I added when I upgraded to the E120 both have the cable exiting the rear of the housing, at the bottom center, not the bottom of the housing.
