Official 370 Sundancer thread

Here's a bit of an update on the seat project. All frames are being replaced with Starboard, and other composite lumber so this does not re-occur. Which means, of course that the next owner will be the benificary of this action.

This was a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, we're about done.

Thanks Mark, I get on this great site at least once a day. Really love all the information for other 370 owners, all the upgrades and pictures.

The 370 DA thread is the best..

Thanks

Welcome! I'll echo what the others said. While you are at it, be sure to visit a site I am constructing which contains the pictures of a big bunch of 370's - www.370sundancer.com.

Hey Ron,

I saw on your picture that you have carpet on the upper and lower swim platform. I am considering adding it to mine to eliminate foot prints and the like. Have you been happy with it? Do you have it snapped down or just non skid backed? Thanks!

Wow....... The lower swim platform carpet is a very nice touch. I have my smaller upper platform carpeted ( snap -down ) to match my cockpit carpet.....and was thinking of doing the lower platform this spring.

I like the idea of " no snaps "...............NICE

Jack, I put carpet on both upper and lower 2 years ago to eliminate the foot print problem. It's one of the best things I've done to the boat! Mine are snapped down and only removed for cleaning underneath twice a season. They stay put underway even in rough seas. You won't regret doing it. Mark

Jack, I'm not sure how many snaps I used but I think they're spaced about 24" to 30" apart. The carpet is an indoor outdoor berber that closely resembles the original carpet except it doesn't have any rubber backing on it. Without the backing it doesn't take long for it to dry after it rains or gets sea water on it. Mark

Greetings all

Its only December, but boy does the mind travel - April is on my mind and getting SummerDeis Again back at her slip. Thinking about having a 370 DA trip this summer - maybe a long weekend in AC. Any thoughts to keep these winter blues outta my head

I wanted to let you all know that I got the helm and passenger seats back from the local shop that was redoing all the frames in starboard (see previous pics). I am estatic with results, in that they look exactly like they did originally! The only change I went with was to change the aft bolster to not have a lip over the transom coaming. That was the part that was most damaged by water, and made the least amount of sense in design. The new part looks just as factory as the rest. I'll post some pics this weekend when I get back from my THIRD week in Milwaukee. This poor Florida boy is not taking it well........

That's great...Did you have them re-covered as well?
Also what's the odds your shop kept a template for the seats? Looks like they did a great job and it would be great to be able to order replacement seats, (similar OEM) rather than seek out someone in NJ that will do less than perfect job...I know I had my helm bench rebuilt 3 years ago only to find out that he used exterior plywood/non- treated in the construction..other then that they came out great.
Since he installed his work and I wasn't available to see it so I trusted him..Duh...lesson learned..

I don't see much of an issue with exterior plywood in the construction of seats as long as you either treat it with something or seal it with a thin layer of expoxy and cloth. You'll never see it, it's plenty strong, and if taken care of, it will probably out last the boat. Just my two cents.

He used nothing...
I though about glassing it but the wooded bases have been exposed to moisture already, so it probably wouldn't be dry enough to do so...

Hmmm, what if you take the seat out and put it in your house over the winter? It'll be dry shortly and then you can glass it at that point.

The original frames were epoxy'd glued, and screwed plywood. However, as the shop pointed out to me very graphically, It doesn't matter what you seal it with. The first staple that goes in, breaks the barrier. Multiply that by a few hundred times per piece, and there's your entry point. Now, since the wood is "sealed", the frame can never dry out, and rot ensues.

Yes, they did keep the patterns, as I told them that I might have a few future leads from here.
I had them reuse the original skins as they were still in pretty good shape, except for the aft coaming piece. I have the dye, and the talent picked out to shoot all the pieces for a full recovery to "new". Now, I need the time and the weather to do it. The shop took a bunch of pics too, during reconstruction, which I am going to get ahold of.

Anyone know what happened to the 370 Dancer page?

Aargh! I screwed up. I've been experimenting with a new format to allow authorized users to post their own photos and descriptions, but I forgot to turn it off after working on it yesterday. I'll have returned to normal in a jiff.

But I guess the surprise is out. If this works, everyone here will be able to maintain their own page on the site. Thought it would be a nice addition. Keep an eye out - new features are coming!
