Official 370 Sundancer thread

Gene, you're the man! Thanks for all the time you put into this. I'm sure all of our fellow 370Da owners and future owners appreciate it as much as I do. Mark

Hello to all the Sea Ray owners. I am new to this site so I hope you will excuse me if I am doing something wrong.

I posted this in the "Hello to all" thread yesterday and got some great replies already. Some suggested that I address the 370 Sundancer thread directly:

I am the owner of a 1997 Sea Ray 370 Sundancer. (I also own a 2007 Sea Ray 185 Bow rider). I have owned several Sea Rays prior to that so one could say that I am a Sea Ray advocate.

I am new to belonging to any type of casual on line forum so I woul appreciate some help in getting started.

I am looking for advice in the electronics department. I have taken on the project of replacing most of my dated electronics and was wondering if anyone out there has had expierience removing all of the Raymarine harnesses from the helm to the top of the arch.

Is there a way that I can navigate through this site to post my query in an efficient manner?

Thank you for yoour help.

Welcome Anthony,
You have found a good home as the "37 guys" are some of the most active here.
There is something to learn from ALL of the threads posted here on CSR.

Your question about pulling out old wires...dont do that until you are installing new ones. The new will be taped to the old and as you pull out the old you are pulling in the new. The 37 owners will chime in as to what access panels need to be removed.

Again, welcome and see you on the sound.
Mark.

I have the original 1995 370 sundancer steering like this one:

But I would like to get a steering like this one:

Do you know where I can buy it (on internet...)

Thank you.

I bought one from a dealer in 2001 for my 98 330DA.....it was close to $400. I started watching ebay after that and bought a second one for under $100.

If you are in a hurry.....the dealer.....if you have patience....ebay......something in between....try flounder pounder....http://www.fpmarine.com/

I did the same. Got one on Ebay cheap at about $100 a few years ago, but they are hard to find. I have not seen one in a while. I sold me old one one Ebay too and got half the money that I spent on the new one back.

I purchased one of the last new ones on the market late in 2007. As a result I have my old one being refinished to 'as new' condition for resale. It's not done to my satisfaction yet, but it will probably be done before the spring.

It was recommended that I should keep it as a spare. Someone suggested that I could mount it like those student driver cars so the admiral could 'drive' too, but unless I can also figure out how to mount a fake brake pedal, it won't work. I'm always being told to slow down!:smt021:grin:

Once again, great job on the 370sundancer website! Question to toss out - wanting to upgrade my original Clarion stereo with an amplifier. Just looking for suggestions on brand and watts - need to drive that BIG sub woofer.

Thanks

Since this is not a 370 issue, I'll chime in. It's not really critical what brand you use, but I have 4 Eclipse amps, 2 in my truck and 2 in my boat. They are digital and do not create heat. In each case, for the subs, I used the Eclipse XA-1000. In the boat, I have it powering 2 10" JL Audio subs. If you are also going to be driving 4 cockpit speakers, then get the XA-5000 (for all 5). The blue wire from the Clarion goes into the amp's power on-off connection - it tells the amp to turn on. You'll need at least 4 Gauge wire for both ground and hot wire. The hot wire needs to come directly from the battery with an in-line fuse. Speaker wiring is self-explan. Good Luck.

Thanks Ron. If you look at the 370 Sundancer site in 1998 - Rubber Duckee, at the bottom of the page you will see photos of what I did to replace the Clarion unit. I bought a Fusion head unit and remote from West's and it plugged right in. I used the old remote cable as a pull for the new remote wire to the helm and viola!, I was in business. The great feature of the Fusion unit is that it uses an iPod (any iPod, including iPhone) like a audio cassette internal to the unit. I put my 160 GB ipod in there and now I have something like 23 days of nonstop music without repeating. I also plugged the salon TV into it so I can feed the audio through the salon speakers which give a great surround sound effect.

Using my iPhone and Pandora, I can even program my own "radio" stations commercial free.

I'm wokring on a method of letting registered users post their own pictures, but I haven't been able to spend much time on it lately due to pressures at work. (I'm a bankruptcy attorney and there are a lot of people out there losing their homes.) But for now you can send me a PM with the pictures and I'll put a page up for you.

While you're doing the work on your sound system you may want to consider changing the speaker placement. I found that the two speakers in the arch were in a bad spot if you have people sitting in the cockpit. You really can't use the seat aft of the wet bar or the corner spot behind the helm without the speakers being two inches from your ear. I left the speakers there but disconnected them and installed two new Jensens under the seats. I didn't cut any of the original wires so they can just be plugged back into the old speakers if someone wants to return to the original set up. Mark

Has anyone added a second house battery? I'm thinking about doing it to reduce the amount of time that I need to run the generator when on the hook.

How many batteries do you have? I have five in my boat. I think one is the starter for the generator, but I have no idea how the other four are divided up.

My guess would be that two are for the house and one engine (port?) and two are for the other engine, but that is just a guess.

One of my first tasks when I bought my boat was to replace all the speakers. The plastic cones had all disintegrated in the Florida sun. I didn't think of relocating the speakers as Mark and I think that is a very smart thing. The two speakers in the arch can be a pain.

It looks like mine are divided up where each engine has 2 and the house has 1. Don't know for sure though as I'm shooting from memory right now.
