Official 350 Thread

Finally got a chance to get the boat out today. Everything ran well, but I have a performance question. Cruising at about 2900 RPM I am running about 11K on the gps. I opened it up ran about 26K a @ 4400 /4500. Is this typical performance? I had the props scanned and matched this winter.

Hmmm... at 2900 rpm you are only running 11knots? thats waaaay slow!! I ran 10 mph at ~2000 rpm... i dont know exactly what speed mine is running at at 2900, but i do know its above that. I would guess I run 17-19 MPH ?? Then at 3000 I typically get 20-21-ish depending on my fuel load and current in the river I boat on. WOT is 4400 (which I havent done in 3 years since there's not need for me to push it). I remember seeing something like 33-35 mph. Again, thats from memory. I have the standard 17x16 props with cup though, not sure what ones you are running.... I would definately consider bringing them back and having a second look-see. As you saw, I am using MPH (just easier for me mentally) as a measurement, but you know how to do the multiplication for knots to MPH.... keep us posted on this one... looks like you have some detective work to do.

ok need some advice, My 91 350 had a house refrigerator installed, that of course doesn't cool well do to the poor air circulation behind the frig, so I ordered a replacement frig that was a actually boat frig, to the best of my research the correct frig is a norcold DE0041, however it is to deep and will not fit, any suggestions?

i have a 1990 350 what happens is searay installed thru hull on one side of stringer and pump on the other side so the hose goes over the stringer when ever boat is pulled this forms an air lock in hose igot tired of repriming every time i pulled for bottem cleaning so i relocated pump to port side of stringer and have not had to reprime since

I am getting ready to launch my 1991 350 Sundancer for the first time.
Although both engines have power steering pumps only one has a belt. The PO used it as his trolling motor while fishing and it therefore has about 250 hours more than the other. I was going to put the belt on the other engine for the odd time when I would be using one engine only and even the hours out and then I thought I would ask if anyone knew if I could have both power steering pumps working.
Does everyone have only one working or am I the only one?

My horn doesn't work :-(
I faced the problem that the wiring to the double-horm is broken, the end sticking just into the gelcoat. Is it easy to get acces to the wire from the inside to have it (partly) replaced ? Thans for all possible suggestion(s) !

Is anyone running a Flo Scan on their 350? With the amount of fuel we burn it would be nice to optimize usage.

I would be afraid of the numbers that were reported on that Flo Scan.... LOL.

I run one on mine. It claims around 16 to 16.5 at 3150RPM's per engine. Keep in mind that I am running bigger props and I have 2005 engines (carb) motors. I made a trip this weekend and it was about 25 miles one way and I burned 1/4 tank in each tank. That RPM range I am running around 20 knots or so. And that is with a light current and wind. I have come up with some figures on other trips in the range of 30-35 gph on the trips. The Flo Scan is close or my math sucks one.

What props are you running? I have been unhappy with the performance / speed I have been able to achieve all season. I bought the boat late last year and didn't record the speed vs rpm (was worried about everything else). The props had some damage so I took them to be repaired at a prop scan shop. When I put them back on and opened the boat up rpm @ 4400 /4500 and 26 Knots. Seemed like engines wanted to go higher but I didn't. last years top RPM was 4000 and 4200 don't know the speed. Cruising at 3200 I am running at 16 to 17 knots which seams slow.
What kind of speed is everyone else running?

From what I gather HGM they are 20x20....I have been told they were 21 1/4 when I bought the boat. They were black props (painted due to it being in the salt?). I have only opened mine WOT once or twice. I saw 4350RPM's and it felt like the boat was flying. I have noticed she is a little slower sometimes so when I am at the beach on the hook I clean the bottom. After that it runs great. She is due for a bottom job. This weekend 370Dancer and I were side by side and at 1450 RPM I was running 7-9 knots where at the same speed he was running 1750 RPM's. He has 380 hp 8.1 Horizon's and the boat weighs within reaching distance of mine. Alot of that was due to the bigger props. The PO changed them out cause he wanted to go fast? You definatley feel the performance difference in mine compaired to other 350's I have been on. The mooring around the docks is really good. I come out of the hole pretty quick for that size boat and there is not alot of room in the "tunnels" between the hull and prop. 16-17 knots does seem slow for 3200 how does the bottom look on yours?

It had fresh paint at the start on the season. I got a chance to look at it when it was pulled because of the hurricane and it looked good. Unfortunately, pressure washing was not an option when it was pulled. Last years #'s were with a clean bottom. With the higher wot RPM #s I have a feeling they took some pitch out which will give me the RPM's but less speed at cruise.

Our #'s are as follows for this season. WOT 4400-4500 @31-32MPH. Dont know dia. or pitch but can get that if needed. Had the hull soda blasted last week and applying zyrex bottom paint over the next few months. Im hoping the top end #'s are higher next year. i will post those #'s in appx 6 more months :(

That sounds good, thanks. What is your cruise speed / RPM? Sounds like your season has ended.

Are you having the paint rolled on or spayed? I have heard that the spray is much better as far as performance and longevity. A friend just had his 400DB done and the bottom actually shines like glossy. He said the performance was very noticable and it is something i am considering when i do mine. Not sure how much more it is to do this over having it rolled.

Cruising #'s are my typical cruising speeds and rpms. 3100 rpm at appx 20-22 mph. The zyrex coating is going to be rolled on. Its an epoxy based bottom coating. I have heard it can be sprayed but uses alot more due to the evaporation. It is expensive at 300 a gallon now and takes anywhere from 4-5 coats depending on the color. we choose blue for ours. Hope this helped. Idle speed and rpms are 800 rpm @ 3-4 mph. Sorry I choose to go with mph instead of nmh. All the speed #'s are gps

Yes our season has ended sadly, I really have a large honey do list that I created over this season and am putting it inside so i can work on her all winter

Hate to hear that your season ended so badly.....Hopefully all your projects will go smooth and you we be back on the water next spring. I have heard too that the spray uses more and that is costly to do. I will do mine myself....like most of us here we turn our own wrenches and I don't like to pay someone to do something IF I can do it myself. Plus it saves a lot of money for other things as well. Keep us up to date on some of your projects with some pics if you can.

Ill try my best to get pics of the completed project at least dustin, lol. I figure this bottom paint and soda blasting will cost appx 3100 once finished but its the last time for 10-15 years, wooohooo for that fact, lol. At least being inside storage I will be able to polish the topside as often as I want
