Re: What is this part for?

every once in a while (4 times so far this season) I get a cockpit alarm that lasts 20 seconds or so then goes off. Can really ID exactly where its coming from.....it happens when the boat is NOT running and ignition switches are off. Anyone have any ideas?...........1997 330DA, T-454 V drive.
Thanks!

Are you sure it is the cockpit. Had the CO Sensor go bad in the cabin and it would go off intermittently. It was located just above the microwave.

CO sensor was my first thought as well. If it is not the CO sensor, try to see if one of the LEDs at the helm is illuminated the next time the alarm goes off.

Is there any chance the bilge was full of water? The high water auto bilge pump has an alarm if the float switch turns it on. 20 sec is about the time to pump out a bit of water and lower the level.

Hey all...now that I'm back I have to ask you guys about a potential problem I have. Recently we got a new Garmin Autopilot installed that I love...has the shadow drive that allows you to steer if you need to with the pilot engaged and then re-engage when you stop manually steering....my issue is that sometimes the boat doesn't seem to turn when I steer it (autopilot off), like I have some sort of hydraulic bypass going on. Additionally, if i turn the wheel slowly, I can keep turning forever....never hits a hard stop...I can push right through it...

Anyone ever experience something like that? I'm wondering if it is a function of the shadow drive or if the auto pilot has worn (pounded) something out...it is extremely evident if I attempt to do a tight circle on plane...boat just won't respond.

Your informed thoughts are always welcome....

Hi all! been a while since I have been here but been out on the water! I have a few issues and I cannot figure out how to search selectively for topics. Has anyone replaced the deck nav lights? I have perko's and want to just change out the starboard one that the previous owner had replaced with a red/green combo (wrong). Also- what about the rocker switches at the con. My bilge blower one went stuck 'on' so I had to unwire it and use the one on the main electrical panel. thanks in advance!

Since there is no sticker on my 95 for maximum persons or weight nor is it on the brochure, does anyone know the max persons rating or max weight since people are heavier these days

Your boat is "yacht class" meaning no person number rating. Just use common sense. And make sure you have enough life jackets for all.

Anyone replace the Tides dripless shaft seals on their boat? What was involved? Pulling engines? Access to them is a nightmare with the v drive configuration.

Having mine done next week. Having boat pulled and letting mechanic do it, not something I would even attempt. Can't even see them, never mind getting to them. He said he could do them in the slings and have it back in the water same afternoon. Then again I'm 6' 3" tall and he is about 5' 8".

I installed marine A/P's for 18 yrs.... mostly raytheon/raymarine... most likely you've got air in the lines from the helm pump to the hydraulic steering ram that did not get fully "bled" out after the installation. If your not comfortable with the procedure have a qualified marine tech do it, or the people that installed the a/p...

DMartin - Do you know if they're pulling the engines out to do it? What marina in RI is doing it?

Not pulling engines. Said he will pull shafts out. Still has to get under engines, but I'll let him worry about that. It's Elite Marine Service at Nortons Marina in East Greenwich RI.

Performance Question - Brand new boater ... my 98 Sundancer cruises around 21mph @ 3100 rpm averaging around 12 gph, but tops out around 24.5 mph. Is this expected? If not, what direction should I start looking? I've noticed she pulls slightly to the left. Engines sound great with 400 hours.

Take a look at your props and trim tabs. I have a 97 with the same set up and I get about 28 mph at 3100 rpm and top out at 36 mph @ 4000 rpm. I'm running 3 blade 17" props.

Assuming flat water and a semi-clean hull, you should be seeing much more of a top end. What are your wide open throttle RPMs? How are you measuring your speed, is it with a GPS? If you are measuring your speed with the little paddle wheel on the transducer, they are notriously inaccurate.

I have 4 blade props and I cruise around 3300 rpms @ 25 knots. Top emd @ 4200 rpms is only around 30 knots.

I have 3 blade and with full fuel amd water get 22kts (25mph) at 3200. Just put floscans in last month and seem to burn about 28gph at 3200.
