Official 330 Sundancer Thread

Ok everyone I need your help...my 330's muffler has rotted and needs replaced. any idea what it's called, trying to find online to buy but have had no luck. It's the long tubular shaped fiberglass piece that the riser tubes connect to.

I did have them prop scanned. Problem is they're not the factory props 17x17. They're some kind of variable pitch prop that was popular in the late 90s. Going to get four blades eventually so for now they are fine.

17*17 is a lot of prop for the 330. If you are going to have the props for a while, I would recommend you look into buying "The Propeller Handbook" by Dave Gerr. There is a TON of information put into layman's terms. I found it helped me a lot when getting my props redone. What I found most fascinating was the prop tip clearance factors that "SHOULD" be taken into consideration to reduce vibration of the prop wash against the hull.

A new (or at least I just learned of it) development is how props are cupped. Most only cup the trailing edge. The engineers have found out that by cupping the trailing edge and a portion of the blade tips, the thrust is more concentrated and is significantly higher than just cupping the trailing edge alone.

Need more info and pix would help. I don't know what year SR went from straight side exhausts to the combination side and underwater exhaust. I know from looking at my system and a dockmate with an older SR the setup is entirely different.

This may be of some help.

Hi Everyone,
I have a 1998 330 SD and recently after rainstorms, I have been getting water in the aft cabin carpet. I believe I have traced the water from the aft carpet to originate from the starboard side window that is above the couch. I found the carpet to be damp under the couch cushions (at the bottom of the starboard hull where carpet meets the hull its wet - although I can't get behnind the hull or under the window to visually confirm this) the water then runs to the closet carpet then down to the aft carpet in the back. I am concerned that I will get mildew and mold smell too. I was searching the site and it appears these four windows; two port side and two starboard side should be rebedded every 6 or 7 years. I have owned the boat for about 6 years and I have never done this. Has anyone ever had this problem or reseated these windows. Is there instructions on how to do this? Or do I simply unscrew the screws on the inside and out and remove the window and then recaulk and reseat? Or should I have my boat mechanic do this?

As well, could the water be entering because the black window tabs pushing against the rubber seal needs to be tightened. The black tabs don't seem very tight, but it does appear to create a seal on the black rubber ring as I do see water sitting in it (after a rain storm). Can you tighten these?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've never heard of rebedding portholes every 6-7 years. That doesn't mean it is not protocol, just that I've never heard of it. I know a few folks who have done it and dreaded the job. It's a lot more involved than it looks.

I had the same problem as you on the port side above the microwave. I cleaned the rubber gasket thoroughly, especially the part that mated to the window. Then I treated it with PB2. PB2 is a water based silicone infused rubber and leather treatment. I then cleaned the porthole itself thoroughly and put a bit of PB2 on the area that would contact the gasket. Then I tightened down the dogs (plastic handles). There is a black flat head screw in the middle of each one. They are easily missed if you are not looking for them. They tend to loosen over time. I've not had a problem since.

Re: Dual Trumpet Horn mounting location

Starting the spring upgrade process. I was tired on others not hearing the weak OEM horn on my 330, so I just bought the Ongaro dual trumpet white powdercoated stainless horns. I tested them on a spare battery and I think they will get attention when needed. Pretty loud for a non-air horn.

Now the question is where to mount them. I was thinking on top of the arch right above the helm or possibly on the side just to the right of the helm. Has anyone mounted one of these and what location would you suggest?

Update. Earlier in the summer I did finally install the white Ongaro dual trumpets on top of the arch. I decided against mounting on the side because it seemed like it would be getting in the way all the time. I mounted it on the port side since the TV antenna is on the starboard side, so now I have a balanced look. Its wired properly with heavy tinned wire and a horn relay under the dash. I left the anemic Sea Ray horn wired in too (not sure why, since it cannot be heard over the Ongaros).

I had to drill into the aluminum and play around with positioning to get it right. I achieved the downward slope by using some starboard under the back and sealing it up well with 4200 and the gasket that it came with.. I had to bend the mounts a bit to lower the front too. It turned out nicely.

Its nice and loud now :smt038 (especially for the passenger in the port companion seat! - Memo to self, give passenger some warning before using the horn!:wow:)

Here is a pic:

I have used it a few times with the desired effect. I can now finally be heard. Like when this "obliviot" passed through a bunch of boats trolling for salmon with downriggers down (many of the boats were open and smaller than 20ft). He was closer than the picture appears and was cutting across and behind me. He dropped off plane after my caution blast. If I just had the SR horn, he would not have heard a thing.

Sweet! Nice upgrade!!

Hey Guys. I was surfin around the net and stumbled upon this thread on another site. I thought it was a cool upgrade and may be something that all 330 owners will eventually need to address if it wasn't done already!

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica][FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica]If you are trying to replace your outdated TV in your 1997 330 Sundancer, and cannot find one to fit, here is a great solution.

HhGregg Sells a 19" Curtis TV that works well.

(Curtis LED TVDVD 1975A. $199.99)

It has a side mounted DVD player, and the guts of the TV fits in the hole, with the outer frame of the TV overlapping the opening a little.

The problem is that the old TV/VCR was vertical, and the new TVs are wide. ;ie, the required cutouts don't match.

I removed the old the TV and swivel it was mounted on. This left a tall cutout. I purchased a wall mount with an arm, for the new flat screen, and attached it inside of the cutout, on the right side.

This allows the TV to be pulled out, and turned as needed.

Now that leaves an opening below the TV.

I purchased some matching Vinyl, and with some plywood, created a divider and mounted it just under the TV. This gives the illusion that there is actually two separate cutouts, and it gives the TV a little support when stowed.

Next, using the same vinyl and plywood, I cutout a little door and mounted it to create little glove box, to store keys, wallets, DVDs etc.

Problem solved, and got a little extra storage in the process.

The door looks a little uneven in the picture, but I think it's just the lighting.

Easy and Fun project.

Hi Guys
Just bumping this back up the forum listing. We bought a 1994 330DA in September and I have spent the last few weeks enjoying reading through this string.

That's a nice, clean install Todd!!

I thought it was pretty cool too. I didn't do it on my boat, I saw it on another website and thought is was worth sharing. I actually mounted my TV to the existing swivel stand by screwing in the base right to the turntable. This allows it stability and it can still be locked back in position. I will be adding a bluray player above the tv inside of the cubby and attach it to the top with brackets. I am then adding a powered HDMI splitter and running feeds to both tv's in my cabin. This along with my stereo upgrade should make "Movie Night" on the boat a whole new experience. I can't wait!!

I read somewhere on this thread that you can gain access to underseat storage below the helm seat. The thread says that the helm seat will flip forward to get into the storage area. I have a 97' 330 DA with a manual helm seat and was wondering if this is true for all 330's. I bought the boat in September of 2011 and haven't really looked into yet. Just wondering.

Really? I haven't heard this and I've had my boat for 3 seasons. I will have to check the next time I go down to the boat.

I have access to that space via the rear. The backrest of the rear seat in the cockpit folds down. I keep our PDFs there as well as the cockpit table post. I don't remember if it goes under the helm seat for sure.

Under the helm I can't say for sure as mine is electric and there are two rails mounted to the fiberglass.

I have a question; I'm not really sure how to read a Prop Scan. I have a 1998 330 and the previous owner had made another set of props. The prop scan has several different pages and a summary graph and at the top of the summary graph says " Propeller Pitch - Measured Mean 17.154 ins". What exactly does this mean? As well how is this measured mean different from say the factory props? The previous owner had the boat on a smaller inland lake while I boat on Lake Michigan. Were these props meant to get the boat on plane faster?
Thanks

Re: Storage area access

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried that. Will do so on the next trip to the boat.

Prop Scan reports measures each blade individualy, you get a composit or "mean" number between the blades. You should have 17 X 17 props on this boat (17.154 is about right for either the dia or the pitch)

I do have access that way too and I also keep my PDF's in there. I am just curious if there is front access also!
