Awesome thank you for the tipWe put a 4” memory foam topper over the berth area. We never use the table in that area so I replaced the table with a carpeted piece of plywood, since the table was never real stable.
It is much much better than just the cushions, but still not like an actual mattress.
To make a topper, buy either a California king or standard king size. Neither is quite big enough. The California is not wide enough and the regular King is not long enough.
Make a template and cut to size. An electric turkey knife cuts the foam cleanly. If you plan correctly you can use the cut pieces to fill the gaps in length or width. 3M spray adhesive bonds the foam very well.
Many toppers have a stretchy fabric cover. I was able to get it over the new odd shaped topper I built. I used a standard King.
With all of that said, we recently ordered a new King foam bed for our home and I plan to construct a full depth foam mattress for the boat with our old one. (Like I said much better, but still not ideal. We have stayed on the boat for a week with the topper.)
