Thanks Joey! Your posted projects are very inspiring and just hope I can live up to the standard set.
Joey,

You failed to mention just how laborious the removal of the carpet can be! I’ve got at least 10 man hours just in the removal. I’m getting too old for this...

Here’s an after for you.... my carpet came up easy. Rebuilding the access hatches and stairs was time consuming.

Thanks! I’m familiar with and inspired by your work as well. Beautiful! Our boat was pretty USED when we got it so I think spills and abuse turned the carpet glue into gum. Hopefully the hard part is over. I actually have the 3 step stairs and a little afraid to get into that project at the same time.

Coming along. Finally got all the carpet up and planning to turn the V berth into a permanent bed. Wife and I are pretty short so our mock up ensures us plenty of room to sleep comfortably. Debating if marine grade plywood is warranted for the bed base? Thinking a cut piece of 3” memory foam would be sufficient for the bed and custom cutting and sewing of a mattress pad and sheets/ comforter would make it appear natural? Long winter ahead with this project.

Looking good projects well underway question though, why would you remove the carpeting around the storage under the cushions considering it’s out of sight anyway what do you plan on covering it with?

You’ll see. I want to create a storage area under the bed with a door similar to under the salon sofa. All of our carpet was nasty and all had to go. New bulkhead to be covered in new carpet to match under the sofa.

I’ll be interested to see how this turns out. I have laminate and teak lumber left over from my stair project, and am planning to to pull carpet off step area and the vertical sections as well.

Regarding the berth. I replaced the table with a cut to size carpeted piece of 3/4” ply (non marine) and converted ours to a dedicated bed as well. We originally used the cushions. No good. I then made a 4” memory foam topper. Better but still not great. I’m pulling the cushions this spring and putting in a full depth memory foam mattress. We got a new one at home, so I’ll be building one from our old king size one. Easy to do with an electric carving knife and spray contact adhesive.

I found the bottom of the rabbit hole. I took a couple of screws out of the base of the stairs and the whole thing lifted out. NOW I’m doing that too. These things are really poorly made though. I’m thinking of redoing the treads in LVT to match the floor and recover the risers in the new carpet I got to match. I really don’t think I’m up for re-engineering the entire stair case and I do like and need the current functionality of the lifting center tread. Using carpet on the risers means I will only have 2 cuts in the LVT for function.

Has anybody changed out their galley faucet and if you have is their a certain size you need to cover the holes?

Hey, I recently came across this on YouTube. Hope it helps. It shows options on how to change that specific faucet.

I was just taking the boat to winterize, and when I was ten minutes away from the marina, the HALON system alarm started beeping. I slowed to a halt, shut the engines and anchored.
Looked at the engine room, and everything seemed perfectly fine.
No smells, no smoke, the gauges were reading fine up to that point. Both engines were running at 170F, and the oil pressured was good.

‘anyhow, tried to start again, and the port engine started, but the alarm started beeping. The starboard engine wouldn’t even make a sound. Didn’t turn at all. As if it wasn’t there.
Ended up getting towed (BoatUs....totally recommend them).
I’m optimistic and hope it’s a fuse or bad connection...
Anyone have had this issue?
‘wish me luck!
Thanks.

The alarm you heard was most likely the O2 sensor in the front port side of the cabin, if you have low DC voltage coming from your batteries that alarm will sound and wont stop until the batteries are dead for voltage is restored. Which makes sense that you couldn't start voltage was low.

So it’s time to tackle my generator, when I bought the boat the stator side I believe was junk but I can’t find any of the parts online for the 4.5 bcg. Doesn’t anybody know off places that sell used westerbeke’s or Kohlers. Or just I rip this unit out of the boat and send it to someone to diagnose and rebuild it.. the only thing is I don’t know how much it will cost to rebuild it’s.

What are you looking for? if the stator has to be rewound it can be sent out. there are a million threads that you would have to comb through on here to find out alternate sources for Westerbeke generator parts but it’s all out there , sorry I couldn’t give any details haven’t gotten to that point with my generator and hopefully never will LOL

The V-births on 2001 models and newer are permanent births which are great. That being said, they are an odd shape which forces a couple to sleep with their heads against the stb side of the bow. The designers did this to allow for some style to the birth (swoopy curves) and to allow room for stb side storage/mirror, counter, and drawers. This allows quite a large sleeping area, but the birth does get narrower towards the foot of the birth.

If I was doing a retro-fit it might be nice to have a full island type birth and worry less about the additional drawers or counter space.

Why do you think it needs to be rewound? Mine on the same boat prob same westerbeke ran great but didn't put out power i changed the 100$ or so(don't really remember) capacitor and it worked great for years after. Just a thought. Easy to get to and remove behind the cover forward of genset looks like a small round white cylinder 1 bolt? A few wires remove and shake off it sounds like a box of marbles replace it and try.
