Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

I battled with my galley fridge for a few years as it would sometimes get cold enough and other times it wouldn't. I checked everything and short of throwing parts at it I did what I could to repair it. I finally gave in and bought a new fridge after my 7 year old poured curdled milk on her cereal. It is an Isotherm CR 130. A little expensive but a perfect fit for the 340 DA
I just finished the install which took no more than an hour to take the old one out and put the new one in. I had to trim a brace in the back on the floor and trim about 1/4" of the top panel of the opening.

If you need to replace yours this is an expensive but great option.

Very nice. Where did you get it from?

Fridge looks excellent! Suspect it will be on our agenda before too long:)

Looks great, but the freezer section appears to be pretty small according to the pictures on the website. I guess if (when) mine fails, I'll probably stick to the same Norcold unit that is currently in place.

Your correct, it is smaller. For me it is enough freezer space between the galley and cockpit fridges. I wanted more fridge room. The shelving in the main fridge and on the door is more useful IMO.

Looks nice. Did you have any issue getting the old one out and new one thru the cabin sliding door?

No, it had an inch or so to spare with both new and old fridge going through the cabin door

Hi all.

I hope everybody is having a good season with their 340DA as I have a perfect season with my new to me 375 except a few minor things.

It's time to replace my 2 year old but neglected wet cell batteries, they are loosing electrolyte in a week and bubbling and charger never stops.

I've got a good quote of gel batteries with the same price of wet cells, so I prefer gels as they are maintenance free which is a major benefit extremely for checking/topping off the port side batteries. Is there any cons about the gel over the wet cell ?

But I have to change the converter/battery charger settings of my promatic 30-3 220 volt/50hz for gel cell which is currently set for lead/acid I guess, so I disassembled the aft cabin cupboard and took photos of the converter but couldn't see the switches underside or sides of the unit, is it inside the unit as the manual says "drip pan" ?

TIA

Unfortunately that charger is different than what the boat comes equipped with here in the states. Most of the Sea Rays I have seen have Intellipower chargers.

Rather than go with GEL, I would recommend AGM batteries. They are far less fickle about charging rates and any modern battery charger can charge them, as they are essentially lead acid batteries. I did update my charger to one that specifically had a setting for AGM, but that was not truly necessary.

GEL batteries require a specific charger setting though, so if you go that route, make sure you figure the proper settings on the charger before you attempt to charge them. Looking at the manual, the switches are inside the unit. You need to remove the top, which is probably the drip shield and you should see the dip switches.

I've had success with AGMs as well on my boats/wave runner. As Scott says, no change necessary for the charger - same as lead/acid.

Thanks Scott for your reply.

I have/had the same converter in my 2005 280DA then I replaced it as it toasted.

Why I want to go the gel route is the same price of wet cells whereas AGM's are 2 to 3 times expensive than wet cells and being maintenance free since I have hernia and it's really contortion checking the port batteries leaning over the engines transversely of the boat. :smt021

Will open the inside of the charger and send an email to the producer for double-check.

Will update when I got progress.

Thanks Carter for your answer.
So are the AGM's need to add distilled water or are they maintenance free ?

I need new batteries. I have the original PD2040 charger. Scott, do you know whether the AGM batteries will work with this charger? Is it a Group 31 Marine battery I need?

The AGM's will work with that charger, there is no setting specifically for AGM's though. I ended up getting the newer model this spring, which has settings for AGM and Gel, just to ensure that my AGM batteries will get maximum life, but probably was not necessary. I've used AGM batteries for the last 6 years with the PD2040 (same as yours) with no ill effects.

I'd recommend group 31 batteries, and that was what the boat originally came with.
