Re: HELP: Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Thanks just read the owners manual schimatic
said the cockpit Gfi WORKS THE mid cabin ,forward birth and galley
thanks for the location

When you recovered them did you just do the seating surfaces or the backs as well and if not did it match up nicely? I'm wondering if I can get away with just doing the seat cushions because the back are in fair condition but worried I will not match up. Can you ballpark how much it costed between the company that made the fabric and the canvass co that installed?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I only did the seats bottoms. The small one you insert over the step to the side decks and the half moon one behind the helm seat. They matched up very well but the rest of the vinyl was in very good shape. It cost me about $350 for materials from the manufacturer and $150 to have them installed.

Just for clarification... Did your dealer find an OEM supplier who made a replacement fitted seat cover from the original pattern which you had installed locally, or did they source the original material that your local upholstery shop sewed to fit your original seats? I was under the impression that the covers were done in house originally and there is no source for them after a few years when SeaRay discontinues them. If that is incorrect, I would love to track down the OEM supplier.

The dealer tracked down the OEM supplier. I think he said they were in the northeast area but I am not 100% sure on that. The covers came in all ready made and ready to be put on the bases by a local Upholstry company. Took about 4 weeks from when they ordered them till when they came in. That was spring 2014.

That is very interesting. Everything I have found online indicates that all upholstery work was done in house and all patterns were destroyed after a few years. There is a shop called Bristol upholstery in the northeast that does a lot of SeaRay work and has a lot of the NOS material, but he was never an OEM supplier. Perhaps I will give SeaRay a call this week to try to get to the bottom of it.

We had ours recovered by a local upholstery company who has a shop in the MM dealership and a shop in New York somewhere. They did all our bottom seats for about $300 each and even recovered our back seat including embroidery of the logo for $850 and you can't tell any difference.

Re: 2003.5-2008 340 Sundacer Thread

Has anybody had success replacing the head porthole gasket to stop water leak from rain. I have had mine replaced twice on my 340 with no results.
ANYONE? Anyone at all?

Thanks AL

Re: 2003.5-2008 340 Sundacer Thread

I have never had any leakage from my windows, (knock on wood) Every year, I have a ritual of tightening down the screws surround the frame. If those loosen, they will leak, so they need to be tightened regularly.

+1 to what he said. The screw on three latches need to be really TIGHT or they leak. 99% of the time a loose screw is the cause of the leak.

We use our '05 340 a lot for long weekend trips along coastal North Carolina and down to South Carolina in the sumemrtime. Almost always have another couple. Here is my query. The "guest berth"/conversation pit, though adequate, can be a rather tight squeeze for our guests, especially when we spend 2 or 3 nights on the water. I have pondered building some sort of removable filler to close up the "notch" area on the cabin side of the berth and then have a custom cushion made to match. This would make it a little less "cozy". Has anyone done this and willing to share your idea/design/materials used? This is going to be my winter project and I want it to be both functional and my wife demands it also be aesthetically acceptable.

Hi guys , went to take off my props today and had the wrong size

I bought two huge wrenches at Menards, they work great. Heavy as hell, but they do the trick. You'll need a harmonic prop tool (prop knocker) most likely to get the props off the shaft. I have a prop puller but there was not enough clearance to fit between the prop and carrier. A couple good whacks on the knocker and the prop will come free.

We have thought the same about making a filler cushion in the aft. So by accident this summer we found that the cooler and the center filler cushion for the cockpit rear seat, laid on top of the cooler is a fit. Try this, We have used this all summer to make a bigger aft cabin. The oem cooler and filler cushion are the correct height to match the aft.

has anyone installed a cockpit air conditioner? im thinking about putting one in under the passenger seat which is a storage compartment for a cooler. any thoughts? the ac pump is in the bilge so i could "T" off that and then just drill a through hull on the side for overboard. any thoughts?

If you do it, make sure you post a full report.

Follow up to the upholstry replacement mystery -The SeaRay 340 cockpit upholstery was not done in house. It was produced by a company called Crane Interiors out of TN. All they do is OEM marine upholstery and they do not sell to the public, but they do sell to SeaRay or a SeaRay dealer. I gave them a call, just to see what I could find out. There are absolutely no records kept beyond 5 years. I suppose, with this boat being made into 2008, that the 08 pieces may have fit an earlier year, meaning that it may have potentially been available through 2013. I suspect that there were some slight changes that would have made later pieces incompatible with earlier models, but that is irrelevant now. At this point there is no way to purchase OEM seat covers for a 340. I asked if perhaps these older patterns were handed down to a smaller upholstery shop and was told that they were not and they no longer exist.

Re: 2003.5-2008 340 Sundacer Thread

I'm hoping you guys can help me with a sanity check on the 340 pricing. I'm looking at the 2007 model year 340s. Overall the current asking price is around $125k on the listing sites. What is a reasonable price to pay and what would you consider a good deal? Figure minimal options include gen set, original radar and cockpit fridge. Seems hours range from 350 to 450 for this age. Also figure the typical maintenance done such as manifolds and regular oil changes. Thanks for the input.

If mine were on the market, it would be listed at $149K minimum....does that help?
