Official 2003.5-2008 340 Sundancer Thread

Well, I made a list under another thread (search LED conversion and it should come up) but I used Marinebeam.com, which I think has a far superior product than superbright LED's. I included the numbers and part #'s, but keep in mind that an '07 may or may not have the same fixtures as an '05.

As for the conversion, it is well worth doing. I went from around 18-20 amps with everything on, down to 5 amps. All the lights on my boat are LED now, including navigation and compartment lights.

VHF Radio (Antenna) problem on '06 340 Sundancer:
The top of my VHF radio antenna on my 2006 Sea Ray 340 Sundancer struck a bridge superstructure while I was passing under it recently - and since then my radio will transmit (at least the marina office can hear me when I am in my slip) but won't receive. The antenna itself doesn't show any outward signs of damage. Does anyone have any ideas what might have happened, or how this might be fixed?

Its very likely that you'll need a new antenna. Try replacing with anything you can find, even a rubber duckie antenna and retest with local transmission. That should tell you if the antenna is the cause.

Let me get your responses. After shrinkwrap was taken off and reinstalling the top canvas and Eisenglass I cannot for the life of me get the canvas and glass to fit like it did prior to shrinkwrapping. It is too tight. The two long support poles and the two shorter poles with the 3 hole sets. What notch do you have yours set at? Is the notch at top, middle or lower? Please answer for each length pole. The windows are about an inch from the snaps even when glass is hot. Thanks -

Center position on the front. I'm not sure on the back. Did you wash the canvas over the winter?

Hey Alex - No washing of the canvas - Shrinkwrap people took it off, I put it on, not fitting! Ping me if you see your back pole settings. Thanks..

Canvass does shrink! I was having to hang on the stainless support structure to get ours back together after just a day on the water. We had the back of our camper canvass re-done with elastic loops and buttons, and it is MUCH easier to manage. See - http://www.sailrite.com/Shock-Cord-Cover-Clip-White#.U495v4fn8iQ Not sure what I would have to do if we laid up for the winter, but hopefully it would involve keeping the canvass in place. We did look at some extenders before finding our solution. See - http://www.boat-snapextenders.org/ and I could not find any way to re-stretch our canvass. The canvass guy who installed the elastic loop solution, was able to move the snaps down on the existing canvass on both sides, so they BARELY can reach. We still have to start the zipper, snap the snaps and then finish zipping up the zippers for both side panels. if you find a way to stretch your canvass back please post it!!

There are length adjustments on the support rods. Make them as short as possible, install the canvas and isinglass and pop the adjusters back out.

IDK. Why wouldn't they? For the past 2 boats and 8 years of shrinkwrapping I've used 4 different shrinkwrappers and they all took canvas and glass off.....

Guess they do it a different way in your neck of the woods. Try getting your canvas wet to stretch it.

Mine eventually goes down to bottom hole on front supports, but I have to put up the bimini (no windows as they won't snap) and put it on the top hole on the front supports and let the sun and heat stretch it out for a few days and then I can hang on it and get it to drop into the lower wholes as it stretches out.

I have a full camper canvas on my 2004, love the extra space but painful to reassemble when gone for a few days. Looking to see if anyone has a Blue cockpit cover they would like to sell if not using. I have a canvas guy who can make it to spec but wanted to see if anyone had one already.

Where and how do you guys store your tools and spare parts on board. Their is a little space down in the ER that i keep (port side Forward) oil but my tool box is up top underneath the rear seats.

I'm always annoyed when i have to get in there because i'm trying to get a square peg (tool box) out of a round hole (seat).

I have the same issue. I could put them where my figmentary generator sits, but then I would have to raise and lower the engine hatch each time I wanted to work on something.

Spares parts go in the front bilge and tools are split between the drawer under electric panel( basic tools) and the rest go under the captains chair storage area

Hey 340 owners!! I have a dilemma regarding storing my dingy on the swim platform. On my 2002 340 the swim platform was much closer to the water and I was able to use the weaver davit system with the pads and the two "hooks" on the swim platform. The swim platform on the 2003 340 is much higher and not close to the water thus it seems that I can't use the same system as I can't see pulling the dingy up close enough to hook the davit pads to the swim platform. I was curious to see how others are pulling their dingy's around.
Thanks in advance!!
