Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

Bill, I don’t have twins, never had, but, I thought all twins are counter rotation. Original owners manuals, I think on the SeaRay site but not sure. Somebody will reply. You

Bill, I have not found an owners manual per se but I have located a few diagrams on the sea ray archives as well as here. Some of the individual components can be googled to find help as well, stove, fridge, etc. But if you put a specific question on here, odds are you'll get a response.

I have a brochure listing the standard and optional items for the 90 280 DA and though it doesnt say the drives are counter rotating, I would certainly have assumed they were

Mine did not have counter rotating props.

Hello folks! I can now say I have officially joined the ranks for a Sundancer 270 owners. My beast was made in 1991 and I've found that when trying to locate items the availability jumps from the late 1980's to 1993. Seems to skip right over 1991. She is water ready just some minor things I need to get done on her to restore her back up.

Very cool. Have fun with it. Keep in mind, when looking for things, that the 92-93 290 was the same boat as the 90-91 270

Thanks for that info as I was having difficulty locating info for the 1991.

Can you tell me what the whit plastic box is for under the floor in the salon in front of the head. It has as float switch and a pump. Is this a holding tank for the wast water?mis it for the head or the sinks?

Likely the shower sump.

Hello All, it is truly a beautiful weekend here in FL.I have a towing question. Do you need an oversized permit to tow the boat on the roads. Mine is a 1990 280DA. The previous owner never had any permits, signage etc… but everything I read says that it is needed?

My center windshield vent needs replaced. Right now there is a cheesy warped very thin piece of plexiglass there.

If I am correct, reading previous posts, it needs to measure 14 3/8 tall, 17 1/8 wide, .230 thick.

What I don't know is placement and size of the holes, both at the hinge and where the ram attaches. Anybody happen to have that valuable info?

Hi All.

I have put a deposit on a 1990 Sea Ray 270 DA. Just waiting for the marine mechanic to make sure she is all good in regards to engines, sterndrives and is up and running to go straight in the water. As part of the deal the owner will pay for any thing that is required to get the boat up and running and in mechanically good order. (basically everything works ).

The boat does have a section of Rot (the owner has been up front with this) Its located in the aft cabin underneath the aft bed, its located in front of the fresh water tank (plastic) on the starboard side. I would guess the bilge has leaked through at some point, correct me if i am wrong but the sink and the shower might feed into there? or does it feed out? any way i was wondering if anyone had any experience repairing the rot in this section. I might be able to tackle it myself but i am also in a position to pay for a shipwright to fix the issue (i have requested some quotes today just waiting on reply's.

Wow! How did rot that extensive ever happen? A neglectful owner allowed it to happen and to continue over many years. Our '93 290 DA is rock solid. I would do a very thorough check for other areas that were also neglected.

Thanks for the reply.
In the owners defence it has probably been there awhile with Covid lockdowns etc in Australia. The boat has been stored in a dry dock for over 12 months. Taking into account 2 years of on again off again lockdowns in Melbourne. Also I believe it was only discovered when a soft spot was noticed and the glass was peeled off so looks worse now than it probably did originally on visual inspection The issue has already been taken into account regards to pricing of the boat. The rest of the boat is solid with no soft spots. Good clean cabin with kitchen and mid birth. It's also twin engine which is nice. All electrics are new.

There is no doubt it could be a very nice boat. Just ask the question why that area was very wet for so long? Not a year or two but perhaps 10. Is the fresh water tank leaking? Rot is a fungus that eats wood. It needs warmth, food (the wood), moisture and time. When things are kept dry, as they should be, it cannot grow. The gray gel-coat must have been cracked to allow the water at the wood. The shower sump design is not the best, either. It does pump most of the water out but after use, we always dry ours out thoroughly, as well. You say "the issue has be taken into account... " but did that adjustment compensate you for more concealed damage in that area or replacement of the fresh water tank?
