Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

Thanks everyone I am real happy with the new interior. Here is a breakdown:

Vinyl -
dinnete - 6 1/2 yds
vee-berth - 7 yds
mid berth - 4 yds

Sea Quest vinyl 14.99 yd x 18 yd = $269
Bolster & curtain fabric 18.99yd x 14 yd = $266
Allure flooring = $100
Aluminum trim = $50
Labor for Vinyl, bolsters = $700
Labor for curtains and 4 pillows = $160

total = $1545

I put new formica type material on the dinette table. Now......buff & wax, new carb, bottom paint, and a few other things and I will be ready!

Dave, how did they get the V-berth covered without a seam? At least it looks that way. Did the bolsters go on back without a hitch? I will use the method jerry wrote about in an earlier post to make sure the fabric doesn't bunch up. Any comments re:install of them would be great. I also am thinking about how to keep bed comfortable on the vinyl without being hot or cold. May try to make a fitted sheet for each side as my V is split down the center with the 30' DA. Floor is not out of question as well, if I float it it should not take too long. I will post pictures of the 2 floor compartments 1 for storage and the other is for sump pump. They connect on the floor and it looks like a tricky job.

New interior is lookin' good, Dave. If anything like me, you are probably wondering why you waited so long.
You are probably happy to get that project behind you. Enjoy your "new" boat!

I did get pricing back from Great Lakes. $1950.00 complete. Then shipping to Barrie would be extra. Probably a couple of hundred bucks or so.

can't beat that. Let us know how it turns out.

The vee berth cushion is seamed right at the front edge (toward the bow). I could not use Jerry's method as my upholsterer covered the back of all my pieces! So I cut a small slit in fabric with a utility knife (hidden in deep seam area) and ran my screws through new holes. I did use an awl to help the fabric around the screw heads before the final tightening. It went okay.

We are looking for some bedding as we will not sleep on the bare vinyl. I pulled the carb off today and buffed out one side below the rub rail with buff magic and my new Harbor freight buffer. It is looking good.

Gonna jump over to JEGS and order the new carb.

Continuing my Blog.......Finished buffing and polishing from the rub-rail down (Buff -Magic followed by Pro-Polish). Could not believe it but the Edelbrock carb I ordered last night got delivered at 2pm today!

You'll have to give up an update on the new carb performance Quint4. I take it your retiring the QJet. I always thought about getting a 650 Holley Spread Bore Marine carb but the QJet keeps giving me full rpms on both boat motors, Mike.

I will give a full report on performance. I am replacing the stock Weber carb. I rebuilt it after it flooded my engine with fuel two years ago and at the end of last season the secondaries were not opening.....so I am done with it.

I got the new Edelbrock 1410 carb installed today. It went well with the majority of my time spent running a 12v feed to the electric choke. I wound up running a 12g wire all the way from the ignition switch. I will start the engine in a week or so and give a full report on performance once I am in the water. A few pics:

My dad just found and adapter plate the has seperate holes for each barrel. He took one off like you have there. It's some swirl plate, directs the air/fuel in to the intake better. I believe he bought it from Jeg's. I just don't like the looks of that. I put a new intake on it before I'd run that. I can find out more info from my dad if you'd like.

The Weber was on there for 19 years like that......please explain further.

Do you still have the spread bore intake manifold on? I am curious to see how the Edelbrock works with it or do you have to use an adapter?

I just looked on summit and jegs site, chouldn't find what he had, I'll have to call. What you have there, is not the best for Performance. If it was mine, well I"d run the quadrajunk. If I really wanted all I chould get out of it. A Edelbrock performer intake, Square bore. Flow would be alot better. Would loss some wieght also.

The Edelbrock carb is a copy of the Weber I took off. No adapter needed. I did not have a Quadrajet.

What do think it would do in the 1/4 mile?

It looks to me your intakemanifold is a spread bore, usually is a Quadrajet. Both Carbs you have are a square bore. So your running an adaptor plate. The wide open design of that adaptor plate is not the best. It works, but not the best way to go. I should have a part number for you later for a plate that has for seperate chambers for the air to flow down each barral. I called my dad, he's going to look it up. Don't know what this boat would do in a 1/4 mile Jerry, but I bet it wouldn't be good.

Dan

The pic I posted is the stock manifold from the factory, the paint on the bolts was still there. Both carbs (old Weber and New Edelbrock have the exact same footprint) secondaries and primaries are equal size on the bottom. Here is a adapter plate I found for Edelbrock square-bore carbs to stock Quadrajet & Thermo-Quad manifolds. 2696
....is this what you are referring too?

I love this forum! Dan...you the man. I talked to an Edelbrock tech and emailed him a pic of the manifold. He confirmed I need the adapter you speak of. Why it was set up this way in the first place is a mystery to me. Thanks for your advice......I like learning the right way to do things.

I myself don't think you setup is stock. But don't know for sure. My last boat was a 454 boat. Had the motor out a few time's to make some mods. Is yours a Mag?

Not a mag..... 454 MCM 7.4L. I hope the new carb and adapter plate will give me a little less GPH fuel burn.
