Official (1990-1993) 270/290 DA thread

I dont mean to hijack this thread...but how in the heck do you remove the steering wheel from these boats?
I have tried everything, is there a secret, or a keyway or?
Thanks

I don't know of any secret. You take off the center nut and pull it off. You may have to use a wheel puller.

I used a Craftsman 7 ton gear puller to get it off. I tried a lighter one and it bent the gear puller. You just take off the center nut, put the gear puller on and start to tighten it down. Eventually the wheel popped off, and I do mean popped off. It was really on there.

Yeah, I pulled mine off about seven years ago and I think that I used a puller. Recently I pulled it off again and did not have to use a puller.
It might help if you spray it with some liquid wrench and let it soak in overnight before you try to pull it.

I have a canvas question. I emailed Great Lakes for a quote on new canvas for a 1992 290 and I got a reply that they no longer have the patterns for a 1992. Any one have any other suggestions?

What color is it?

It's blue. Medium to navy I guess.

I just have a custom one made, trying to sell the old one, but it is red. Sure won't work for you. Your top is also taller, that is why I had a new one made. I'm over six foot and this one was made for somebody short.

I would have a new one made, but be very picky on who you have do it. Make sure they know what there doing!!!!!!!!!!

That's the problem. I have seen some tops that were made locally and most seem to look kind of, saggy if that's the right term.
Great Lakes only goes back to the 1993 model. I'm wondering if it would be the same as a 1992. I believe the only change in 93 was a different cabin layout that was available.
I'm trying to get pricing so I can negotiate a price once the survey is done.

$4000 you should figure for a camper top. Does it need cock put cover also? $900 that's here in mid michigan.

1993 is the same boat/hull.

got the boat out this weekend, built a new bow stop for it.

The boat and trailer looks a lot different than when I got it.

We are getting close to another season fellas! I am almost done with my interior and will remove my carb tomorrow to get ready for the new Edelbrock 1410. Here is a few pics of my new interior.

I did get pricing back from Great Lakes. $1950.00 complete. Then shipping to Barrie would be extra. Probably a couple of hundred bucks or so.

Dave, looks fantastic, mine should be done this weekend. I will try to post pictures, I am not very good at it. Didn't get to rug this year after doing engine 2 weeks ago. (out on saturday and running on Sunday thank god). Also replaced impellars on both engines. Last weekend we took the upper stripes off and waxed it. Could not believe how much better it looked. After trying with a heat gun for 3 hours and an inch at a time, I switched to Airplane Paint remover, which worked so much easier. Got her waxed and will put her in tomorrow or saturday. Can't wait!! Happy Boating!!!
