My boat project

Wow what a great thread! hats off to you Joe for the job you are doing! So great to see the quality of the restoration that you are doing. Truly a rarity these days. Always a bummer to see a classic Sea Ray bastardized with pedastal seats from Walmart and then called "a new interior".( Amazing how a little Craigslist time has made me so cynical!)

Great job and keep those great pics coming!

We put the drive back on and finished the engine yesterday. We will break it in today.
I am also going to recover the engine cover and back seats. The back seats look alot like the
engine cover pictured here. DSC02086.JPGeDSC02085.JPG.DSC02083.JPG

Good luck on the water test! That motor almost looks too nice! : )

Congrats! Its a big milestone!

I have not been able to take her out yet. Everything is back except when we went to put the drive back on
we discovered the trim cylinders were in very bad condition. One had started to collapse on its own. We
took off the cables and the threading was completely gone. I am searching for some new ones but they
are hard to find for these old TR drives. I found some on ebay but they looked in as bad condition as mine.
I can get them new from Mercruiser for about $800 each, but I am trying to find some cheaper. I will keep you posted.

I am wondering if you could have someone weld an adapter onto those tubes? If you can not find reasonably priced units this might be a route you could take. Issues would be welding different materials and possible internal damage. The welder could tell you your options.
this link might be your drive tube I had to guess which TR model you have. Copy the link to your browser.

looks like part number 18 might come out and allow you to rebuild your units.

Just letting you know to i have found that alot of the Bravo Two parts will cross with the TR-2 if that is what you have, everyone told me there was no way that anything would be the same but when you get down to compairing the parts alot of them are very close, and definatly close enough to work. Maybe look for a used pair for a bravo and go from compair them.

Thanks for the posts. I will definitely look into these ideas.

Hi everyone, sorry to have been away for so long. Finally got the old girl running and had a great summer. We fished, camped, and cruised.
I will be posting alot of pics. Look forward to seeing some of you next summer.

See you later,
Captain Joe

My wife, 4 year old "Alli" and I just purchased Joe's boat. Joe has done some great work on her and we hope to pick up were he left off. Thank you Joe, good luck with the new baby. She has developed some electrical bugs, and an over heating issue over the winter. She will sit for a few weeks before we get to work on her. She is going to get an electronics package, trim and tilt pump, and a complete rework oft he 12 volt system. I plan on pulling the old threw hull fitting out of the bow. I will re-glass them to create less drag.

If it is alright with Joe I will just keep adding to this thread.

Add your profile and start your own threads if you like. Joe did a great job on the boat and we will miss his posts. Wish him the best for us and let him know we are here when he's ready to do another project.

Moto, I personally think you should continue this thread. I think its cool to follow the boat through its "life".

My wife has a long honey do list for me to accomplish before I get too far into this boat. I did purchase a new fiberglass engine cover, and Patronics electronic ignition. The boat needs a fly bridge wind screen, and a 3/4 swim step. There is a company here in Washington that makes custom fly bridge ventures. If anyone knows of a good source for them it would be great to have that info.

I think I have tracked down the overheating problem on the boat. The intake pick up hose is very kinked, and needs to be re-routed, The fuel pick up line is kinked and starving the carb for fuel. There are some other routing issues with water hoses that I will tighten up before she hits the water again. I dont think the mixture on the carb is set right either. All easy to fix. I think I will open up the heat exchanger and see if there is any salt that needs to be cleaned up.

I think she will get a new forward hatch before she gets out onto any green water.

So let me get this straight..... on this model any water that comes over the rail goes into the bildge and gets pumped overboard. This is my first boat that does not have deck drains that go overboard.

I have another question does anyone know what is under the deck along both sides of the fuel tank? It looks as is if water that has gotten into these areas. A couple of deck hatches could open up some nice storage if this space is empty. If it is filled with foam, that may be a bad idea. Water is not moving around inside the boat like I think it should. She is way heaver than she should be, by like 1500 or 2000 pounds!
