My boat project

Awsome pics Joe. Love those salmonoids.

We troll Lakes Michigan and Huron for king and coho salmon, steelhead, browns and lake trout. I love those big cold water fish!

Here's my bro-in-law with the first king we caught on my new (to me) 268DA this past August. It's nice to troll for salmon in a boat that has all these creature comforts.

How far out in the water are you

In that photo we are only about 9 miles off shore, but we were 32 miles north of the port we docked at.

Hi everyone. I am still doing some woodwork. I have turned my attention to the starboard compartment which contained an old ice box, alcohol stove, storage and the driver's seat.
It was sort of a jimmy rigged unit and was not done very well. The panels did not line up in alot of areas and almost every panel was a different kind of wood. The ice box and stove were very old and in bad condition. Also the front panel was rotten along the bottom. I have replaced the panel and am making one large compartment for a nice big cooler to store fish in. I am making the top area into two shelves for storing a portable propane stove and other cooking supplies.

Hey Joe...great looking boat you have....I like the looks of it...it kind of has that sexy/classy look to it that is timeless and will never go out of style. I've enjoyed browsing the pictures you've posted thus far and now I'm looking forward to seeing it progress even further.

Nice work man!

:smt038 Very cool boat, very cool project Joe......I just may get to see the finished project, live, someday....we like to cruise and camp around the South Sound.....

Continuing work on starboard compartment.

Damned fine work. Don'tcha just love that first stroke with the sealer and watching the wood turn a 'lil darker with a preservative? :smt001 For my swim platform & 1 ladder step; I sanded 'em down back to being 'purty and just soaked them in Thompsons Waterseal since they are always wet, and re-apply in spring and fall. What are you using on your wood?:smt017
Again; great work and I'm sure ALL of us are looking forward to more pix.:smt038

Hi everyone. Hey Jonathan. Tell me when you get you scuba license.

I am sitting here GoofyLeo3 and for the life of me I cant remember the product name of the stain and sealer I am using. I will find out tomorrow and let you know.

Hey everyone. I put the starboard compartment in today, and it went in well. My idea was to put a cooler in the section I had made but I could not find the type of cooler I wanted with the right dimensions (should have thought of that sooner). I did find this really nice big Igloo cooler that I thought would be great, I just might have to make the edges of the compartment bigger, but when I put it next to the compartment I realized that was not going to happen. There was nothing for it, I would have to cut a hole in the back. I did not want to but I did and I think it came out pretty well.
I had to remove the floor, cut out and remake the bottom braces but after that the cooler fit perfectly. I will make a door on the back and recover the hole on the side.

Lifted the boat today. I had broken one of the rollers on the trailer when I first loaded it. It is now replaced.

This is a fine project and a great post. Joe great job customizing for that cooler.

Can't wait for my Searay to become a classic so I can hangout with you guys.

This is what owning a classic is all about. Taking a great boat and customizing it with high quality and attractive work that looks original when done. keep up the good work.

Hi everyone. I am so excited. This Saturday I should be able to take the boat out for the first time. Everything is put back together and ready to run. I will take some pics and let you know how it goes.:smt038
