Month long trip through New England - Planning

The weekend of the shark tournament is tough....I would go to edgartown....Mad Max or Harborside is my favorite because the kids can use the pool.....Both a rip off, but what isn't these days.......Ask for Jay at Harboride Inn and Bob at Madmax....

Harborside Inn 508-627-4321
MadMax 508-627-7500

I like Edgartown because of the quietness and privacy

Boston I would do Constitution Marina

Hey Gary, Can you give me a tow up there? I'll buy dinner for the extra fuel you might burn.

I did forget something. When you come up thru NYC fuel is much cheaper on the Jersey side. The Liberty Landing Marina was resonable last time I stayed there. It costs about double to stay on the NY side. $4.00ft on the NY side and across the river its $2.25ft. There is also a fuel dock there for after hours or any time of the night. Pull up, put the CC in and pump the fuel. Thats right on the port side just past the Statue Of Liberty.

I also endorse the Constitution Marina (www.constitutionmarina.com), my home. The docks are very well maintained. There is a decent restaurant next door at the Marriott. You will be right on the Freedom Trail (http://www.thefreedomtrail.org/). The USS Constitution is a block away and has free admission. There is a great cafe, Sorelle (http://www.sorellecafe.com/) for breakfast and lunch. You can walk over the bridge to the North End in 10 minutes and have the best cannolis in the state at either Mike's Pastries (http://www.mikespastry.com/) or Modern Pastries (http://www.modernpastry.com/). You can get provisions at Foodmaster in Charlestown (less than a mile by cab). I live less than a mile from the marina and would be happy to help out if you need anything.

Thanks everyone. Constitution marina it is... altough $3.00/foot is pretty high.

I filled out the reservation request forms for Constitution and Oak Bluffs... All these marinas require forms to be filled out and pretty big deposits up front. I've already spent $2K on marina deposits the last few days.... ridiculous. I assume they wash your boat for these fees?

Also got our tickets for the Broadway play "Wicked" at the Gershwin Theatre for July 30th so we better be in NY by that date... anyone seen that?

What's the best place to stay at in Sag Harbor?

Matter of fact, if we get a new boat, the wife wants to name it "Elphaba". (guess she's just not Impulsive any longer!!!) If you get a chance, get the book before seeing the play.

We saw Wicked and loved it. It is one of my all-time favorites and still listen to the soundtrack often.

As for Sag Harbor, there may be a problem. There is basically one marina in town. It has just changed hands and when I called last week they told me they are not taking reservations yet. It used to be called Malloys, I can't remember the new name, but it included the words "yacht club". There are two locations that they refer to as East and West. A fixed bridge will keep you out of the West side facility, so you will be in town at the East side with all the mega yachts.

There is also the Sag Harbor Yacht Club, but I'm not sure if they have transient slips or if they are the ones taking over Malloys. They are also right in town.

Here's a list of the Goth clubs in New York. You may want to call ahead and make reservations. I think wed is ladies night, free black lipstick.

* Alien-Nation, Albany, NY
* The Abyss, Albany, NY
* Hex, Brooklyn, NY
* Nokturna Sundays, Ithaca, NY
* Abstraction, Mineola, NY
* Albion, New York, NY
* Contempt, New York, NY
* The Black Abbey, New York, NY
* Vertex, Rochester, NY
* Decay NY, Utica, NY
* Deconstructed, Woodside, NY

I hope the play is good. Tickets for the 6 of us came in about the same as a tank of fuel. Ouch... and the Liberty Landing Marina.. $4/foot... double ouch. Every place up there is $3-4/foot. Down here in Virginia/Maryland country, people scream if it is over $1.5/foot.

Is there a subway station near Liberty Landing Marina or should I book a car/limo for the play... heck.. book the limo... it'll be the cheapest thing there.

I've got an email into Sag Harbor Cove Yacht Club to see if they'll take transients.. I'll let you know.

In the summer there is a ferry that goes between Liberty Marina and manhattan that runs about every 1/2 hour. I think it's $2. Oh, it's a diesel boat too.

I saw that but it appears to stop running about 9:30 pm. Is that not correct? The play starts at 8:00 pm so I assume it'll get out about 11:00 pm. Aren't there a bunch of weirdo people wondering the streets up there at 11:00 pm? Like from the movie "Dawn of the Dead"?

If I had a Tiara, this wouldn't be an issue....

If you time it right and spend about 30 minutes after the show just hanging around, you will see almost every geek, troll, and mutant in Manhattan. It's OK though, they only eat Tiara owners!

Not sure when it stops running, you may be right about 9:30. but you can hop in a cab for the ride home, that'll be fun directing the cab driver to the marina. Brush up on your Pakastani.

weirdo's are out all times of the day.

there looks to also be a couple of yankee games on the 29th and 30th.

Past Rock Star Silkscreen Exhibit

july 30th. don't want to miss that.

In July, the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera hold free concerts in the park. The schedule isn't up yet but they are great fun.

You may want to bail on Sag Harbor due to availability and try Essex Cn. instead (voted best small town in New England)

This place is awesome and is a good stepping stone heading west from Block Island on your way to NYC.
