Month long trip through New England - Planning

My wife recommends three restaurants for your date. She likes
  • One if by Land, Two if by Sea
  • The Rainbow Room
  • The Boathouse in Central Park
Best regards,
Frank

Frank, those are good choices. Classics.

I have a list a mile long if you feel more adventurous.

She went with the score points with the Mrs choices. There's that solidarity between women thing going, I think. Or is it the squeeze the husband and make him pay thing? Darned hard to understand women!

Does she know if they have like a "2 for 1" coupon night or anything?

Maybe you can borrow Frank's AARP card?

Best regards,
Frank

Month Long trip... How do you do it Gary, I envy you for sure, I own my own business an right now we are looking foraward o a week in the North Channel Canada....Was suppose to be 2 weeks, but We will have to settle for 1 week, work prevails...Money talks and Life happens...

I will say that when the guy gave me the rate I thought it was for the week... it was for the DAY! OUCH!

You're not in Virginia any more Dorothy. Looks like you're starting to get a taste of what it costs to play in our backyard....
p.s. you're going to love the diesel prices here too.

Still being able to take a month away with the family in a beautiful boat like that....well, that makes you a pretty fortunate guy. You guys are gonna have a blast...

I think I'm pretty much committed now because of all the money I have had to send in to get these reservations. Now of course the weather will totally suck while we are there and we will get our butts kicked as we hop around worrying about "making the reservation" but that's the way it is. At least the pain of payment will be over by July.

I'm not sure how you guys afford boats up there. Everything is almost double up there from what I've seen. The carrying costs of a 260 DA up there is probably about the same as a 480 DB down here. Everywhere you turn, transient dockage is $4-5 per foot... I was complaining last year on the Chesapeake Bay when I got stuck with $2/foot in Annapolis.

I'm assuming diesel is going to be in the $5/gallon by this summer up there... ridiculous.

But.. It'll be good ole' time.

It will be a good 'ol time for sure, but man I'm telling you those rates for moorage are unbelievable.
Tops here are $1.50/foot + $5 power and again that's the high end places.

It's an addiction. No other way to explain Boating

But the prices have slowed people up here.
2 -3 years ago if you didn't make reservations in Feb-March you didn't get in. Now except for a few places, you can pretty much get in anywhere if you call a little in advance.

When we had the 29' we had reservations every weekend, and $2.00 - $3.00 a foot was the norm.

Diesel last weekend was near $4.80, Gas was $4.50

To reduce some of the cost we grab moorings and use the dinghy. That helps some, especially in Newport. It's $5.50 a foot, and then they charge extra for Electricity.

That time of the year, the wind and waves usually lay down enough, so the weather shouldn't keep you from making your reservations.

True that. That's why I'm surprised Gary got into Champlins at all. Used to be we had to reserve by Jan for a July stay. Same thing for Essex, we would reserve an August week a year in advance.

I am betting marinas are raising transient slips fees to make up for the lost revenue from less boaters on the water, due to the cost of fuel.

We just made a slip reservation at one of our favorites stops on our way to Hampton/Norfolk. It's always been $1.50/foot. This year it's $2.00/foot. I would not be surprised to see more of this.

.........but I am trying to get some David Letterman tickets for just the wife and I the other day we are there... Anyone got any connections?... I........

Gary:

A good friend and fellow Sea Ray owner (he owns a 340DA that we just did impellers) does some 'security' work for Letterman. I asked and he said that he might be able to help.

Get me the exact dates and he'll get back to us in a few days.....no guarantees, but it looks do-able!!!

Some useful things for Gary,

Fashion. To keep in that Goth look, here we have the Executive Goth.

If you are walking around on a hot summer day, resist the temptation

man in truck all day, man never leaves truck, truck has no bathroom. You figure it out

If you get tired, just grab a seat anywhere.

Here's your typical hotdog guy. They are good, but eat at your own risk, your holding tank is only so big.

Wow! A guided tour of NYC, all from the comfort of your home.

Our plan is to leave Thursday morning with the entire family. Just when I get the bucket of bolts back together... now I get to watch this:

It's waiting for you, no doubt.

Would be far more poetic if it was named "Bill" instead of "Bertha".
