Mods/Updates to '90 270da

Okay, all of that seems to work except for the old sock. I don't have to put one of those on my boat do I?

Hi, this is the bow shade we made up, works great. Just hooks to the bow rail with elastic shock cords, it is put on or off in a matter of minutes. You can walk on it as well.
Seems to keep the Lucky Old Sun's rays off the bow, and breaks up those direct shots by seagulls.
The material is the shade cover netting nursuries use and comes in various sun block grades.

Bob C ...looks nice!

The waterline stripe on the twin 4.3's always seem to be a bit of a "taildragger", (just look at our signature photo).
We removed the vinyl stripe and replaced it with a painted stripe that paralled the waterline.
The vinyl came off relatively easily with the assistance of the wife's hair blow dryer.
I masked off a similar looking stripe. prepped the area with a light sanding with 240 grit and painted it on with Interlux Topside. Just used a small paint roller and 1 pint of paint.
So far it has stood up 100%.
One less personnel idiosyncrasy to deal with :smt038

I wouldn't think that twins would be that much heavier. I really don't see any difference in how our boats sit in the water. Do you think that maybe the boot stripe was put on incorrectly to begin with? Maybe on second thought, your bow does sit higher. What do you think?

Wait a minute, what is that 350 hrs. stuff? Are those the original hours on that boat?

About the "stern down waterline stripe". It just seems the stripe is factory installed on the twin 4.3 boats so it ends up not parallel to the waterline ... even with the wife on shore:)
Maybe the affect of 3 batteries, 2 outdrives and the added accessories to support the twin engines adds up stern weight, but it just seems the stern of the 270's with twins are deeper in the water!! to me anyways.
Our boat is pretty well stock, so I haven't changed the weight distribution. (Maybe I ended up with a Friday stripe job)?
Yours boat looks great, really nice work on all the extras!!

I have to update the engine hours, we cruised from one end of Lake Erie to the other this past summer, so up to just over 400 hours now.

Merry Christmas
Bob

Have to agree that Bob's boat is "lookin' good"! He was my inspiration to finally get off my duff and re-do my interior. If you have not seen a picture of his interior on the other thread, I copied it to here. (Hope Bob does not mind)

We bought this boat seven years ago because it is a great layout for a trailerable boat. Since then we have made a few mods:

Top re-configured from a Convertible to a Bimini. Gives a better view, more air flow and I believe a little bit of an updated look. First, I traced an outline from a picture of the boat and then drew in what I wanted the top to look like. One issue is where the new top should stop. For that, I applied the golden ratio as you will see in the sketch below:

Also, I had to move the mast light from the middle of the windshield to the top of the radar arch. I discarded the old light, ran the wires up the arch and attached to a new mast light. Additional SS framework had to be made for the new top configuration. The front rail is permanent, so, zippers were put in the top pockets so that it can be folded back or removed. An eisenglass windscreen and side windows had to be fabricated:

Next, since I had a new top configuration, I could have a full, over the winshield, cockpit cover fabricated.
Also had eisenglas "windows" put in the aft part of the top for the lights in the arch:

Next was replacement of the am/fm cass. radio with a xm ready radio and 6-disc cd player. Owners of these models know that the radio is in a shelving unit. The radio was placed in the unit with a open shelf below it. I filled the whole space by cutting a piece of maple(?) and then covering it with Black Formica. I then cut out for the radio and CD player:

The old interior materials had to go, so we re-did everything in outdoor (sunbrella) type of fabrics. (Sorry about all of the pillows - wife, you know):

Jerry, on the bed interior, how hard was is to get the top panels off? I notice on my 92' 300da it is drilled thru the middle of pleats is it also srcewed in at bottom? Was it hard to re-install? I did my couch over last year and want to do the bed this year, i have the same uphol as did. Also my cushions (v-berth) are larger, 54 inch. did they have to sew fabric together or is yours smaller? I also have 2 pieces at the foot. one on a slider and one is a pillow. Do you have the same? Nice job. I am thinking of doing the panels myself. Did you also replace the curtains or remove, as pictured? Thanks Rob:huh:

We removed the curtains as we have no need for them.

My rail pieces are held in place by screws thru the center of the pleats only. I re-covered those pieces myself. It is just a tedious cut and staple operation. You just have to watch how the pattern of the fabric runs. When I put them back in, I first ran a nail thru the original screw holes from the backside. I used the nail head as a guide to set the screws back in. I ran them in just far enough to have the heads sticking out the back. And then set the piece up so that the screw points met the previously drilled screw holes. Just a little time consuming, but, you get them back to exactly where they originally were. Once that I set the screws in, I would back them out a little and use an awl to loosen up the fabric around the screw head. After you do this, you can run the screw back in and it will go “under” the fabric. If you don’t do this step, the screws will “bunch” the fabric at the screw head.

Wires for the nav lights and interior lights and speakers run behind the upper two panels on my boat. (You probably already know that)

My original V-Berth cushion had a seam down the middle (really crappy work). (You can see that in the "old interior" photo). The people that did the new work were able to arrange the fabric so that it did not have a seam. They just had to do a short seam at the very top edge of the V, but, it is on the roll over so it can’t be seen. You have to be real nice to the people that are doing your work to get them to do a good job. :smt001 I don’t know what the measurements are. There is a fill-in piece at the foot.

Hope I answered your questions.

Looks very nice, Better than new. Were did you get the material for the dash?

Jerry, Love the work you've done. You have the same color scheme as my old 1990 270 and it looks awesome! I still love the lines of these boats. They are the best looking years (IMO).

The only thing that I changed were the dash panels themselves. I went with plain black like what is used in a Mako. I had Scott make the panels and add LED backlighting for the switches. I put LED backlighting in for the Sea Ray Logo. I also replaced all of the breakers, moved the depth finder and Halon Indicator. Also added a couple of things. Here is a picture of the finished product.
BTW: Once you get the dash panels out, it would be easy to get the upholstered pieces out and have them recovered. At the same time, you could then paint the dash itself if you wanted to.

What GPS do you have there? Looks like one of mine. I have lost a lot of respect for Garmin this last summer.

Yes, it is a Garmin. When I bought it, Garmin was supposed to send a $100 rebate. Never happened.

Thanks for the compliment. We are real happy with the boat, it is perfect for the two of us. Just trying to keep it looking decent.
