Regarding which marina, I read on another forum that Big Game may try to open at least the docks by the beginning of summer. I'll try to find more information out about it.

Randy

Hey Randy,

The company I work for does some work with Guy Harvey's company. I hear they are trying to turn the Big Game into a Guy Harvey resort and are working on overcoming some of the issues the previous owner had- like unpaid electric bills to the government that ran into big $$$$$ ... I'll be seeing them this coming weekend and will ask about it. Would be great if they could re-open in time!

I'll call the president of Guy Harvey Enterprises tomorrow and ask him about it. I'll post after my conversation and let you all know.

Have a great Superbowl Sunday everyone!

We're planning to go and most likely will have the kids with us. Not sure exactly when we will depart or return or where we'll be staying in Bimini. The hot tub at other pool next to the mega yacht marina sounds pretty appealing given the weather outside right now.

I will hopefully be in Bimini on Thursday June 3, there is a Bahamas Fling group that weekend going that weekend. If any of you are still there the fling will be using Brown's Marina.

Mike, How long do you guys plan on staying?

Ken

Some info for those heading to the Bahamas in the near future (thanks to ExplorerCharts.com)

There is only one buoy marking the channel into Bimini Harbor as of 1/12/10.

Diesel at Bimini Bluewater is $4.05 per gallon

Dockage at Bimini Bay is $2.00 per foot until 4/1/10

Dockage at Bluewater is $1.00 per foot

Dockage at Bimini Sands (South Bimini) is $1.10 per foot

Diesel at Bimini Sands is $4.35 per gallon

Guy Harvey Resorts is trying to take over Bimini Big Game but at this time, has not finalized the deal (thanks to Barry for this up to date information)

Dockage at Honeymoon Harbor is free!

Port Lucaya Marina has temporarily shut down the slips around the hotel area due to low demand. the main docks are still open

Dockage at Port Lucaya is $1.50 - $2.20

Diesel at Port Lucaya is $3.70 per gallon

Thanks for the data Randy. I plan on being there Memorial Day.

Pretty surprising that Lucaya remains so soft that they are leaving some of the docks fallow. I think the Bahamas could do a better job. I know I'm cheap, but the $300 fee is short sighted IMO. I'd go for the night to Bimini if I didn't get knicked for it every other time. They would more than make it back in beer, food and fuel. End of whine.

On a good note, damn the water is clear and warm in Bimini.
See you there. Tom

Great news Tom, glad you can be part of the group.

I know what you mean about "short sighted". They should have a flat fee for those of us who go more than twice a year. It should be reasonable in cost so we want to come back.

OK, so here is our updated armada......

Jack - Ship O Fools
Ken - Miss N Mountains
Ray - White Pearl
Barry - Sunny Daze
Randy - Odyssey
Mike - About Time
Tom - Phoenix

All are welcome to join us, this isn't a closed group.

Hey all, we would love to make it back to Bimini again this year (went w/ the group on the fling last year), but just doesn't look like it's going to happen. Got 2 weddings to attend plus might be making a trip over to Ireland for 2 weeks. Enjoy it down there and hopefully we'll get back next year.

Found this on one of the sportfish forums about Big Game, thought I would pass it on. Don't know the validity but thought I would share anyway. Person posting said they were handing out stuff at the Miami boat show that read as follows:

"Miami. Feb 13,2010. Guy Harvey Outpost Resorts announced today plans to reopen the famed Bimini Big Game Club in time for the summer 2010 boating season. The Bimini Big Game Club represents the company's first in a system of eco-tourism resorts targeted to fishing and diving enthusiasts the compayn intends to develop.

Internationally renowned marine scientist, conservationist and artist, Dr Guy Harvey, in announcing the reopening, noted: "After an exhaustive search through out the Bahamas and the Caribbean for our first property, we've returned to Bimini and the legendary home of modern-day sportfishing for our first project. I personally am both honored and humbled to stand among the legendary figures of Bimini. For the Big Game Club, ours is an expedition restore the Club's reputation for incredible experiences and memorable vacations".

The property has 51 rooms and bungalows, and a 75 slip marina. The company expects to start hiring staff within the next 30-60 days, after a change in property ownership is finalized with the Bahamas government. Veteran Caribbean hotel manager and Guy Harvey Outpost Resort executive, Mr. Christopher Pollock, will relocate to Bimini and serve as General Manager for the resort.

In commenting on the reopening, Mr. Pollock noted "the first task is to restore professional hotel managemen lacking since the days of Bacardi ownership. We have exciting plans to upgrade th property, improve the amenities and rebuild a sense of out-island adventure and discovery when visiting the Club." By summer 2011, the company expects to have completed approximately $3,500,000 in property renovations including a new fuel dock, expanded food and beverage and renovated guestrooms and public areas.

With Guy Harvey's marine research credentials, the company also intends to offer unique dive programs and packages through an expanded dive shop operation, developed with and supervised by Neal Watson, President of the Bahamas Dive Association."

That is awesome!

I was at the boat show yesterday and spoke with the president of Guy Harvey Inc., who is a good friend of mine and they are looking at possibly the end of June for a soft opening. Too early yet to tell but they will focus on the docks and the restaurant and try to get a few rooms open while they plan the renovations to bring it up to a first class operation. I'm having lunch with them next week and will let you know if I find out any further info.

For those of you that have gone on the Boating Flings with the Bahamas Tourism people, they have a lot of trips planned this summer and are starting earlier than usual. They also don't want to have to book at Browns due to the issues from last summer but for their first trip that is where they are staying unless Big Game opens early; and the rest of the time in Bimini they will be at Bimini Bay. Is it summer yet?

I don't know what happened during the fling but when we went to Bimini last year (stayed at Bimini Bay) and went to Big John's which is right next door to Browns it is LOUD. It is LOUD from what I understand all night and I would guess every night by the looks of it. And when you have to hang a sign at the entrance to the club that reads, 'No Pot Smoking', you know the crowd is going to be a loud one. Although, you would be right in the center of the action at 2AM. IMO....

So what's your point? LOL
