Memorial Day trip aka The 2010 Get Chris and Ken to the Bahamas Trip

Randy - I was looking at that earlier today too. The date range (..."third visit and onwards from April 2 - October 31, 2009"...) was from 2009. Do you know if they are doing it again this year?

Mike, I talked to BB and they said they are rolling the incentive forward. I think it's a pretty lame program. You would have to stay at Bimini Bay 4 times in one season and only on the 4th stop would you recoup the $300 in credits.

Not to be a wet blanket but I still think the $300 per two visits is a gouge. Once a year I'm fine with but I can't be the only one that maybe doesn't do Bimini as often as I would because of the tax.

I agree 100%!!!!! I wish they would change that back to the way it was before.

Randy

Yep, but assuming we having little control over the fees the Bahama Gov't charges, I'd rather pay a total of $300 after getting a credit for the other $300 than pay the full $600 if I go there 4 times this year. That's about 5 or 6 cases of Kalik.

I would be very happy to pay my $300.00... just once.

I vote (sorry Jack) for Bimini Bay. However, I will be getting there about the time you guys are leaving so my vote probably does not count.

Has anyone given any thought to staying a little past Monday?

We might stay through Wednesday after Memorial Day.

Ken

I'll be going over Thurday morning and coming back on Monday morning. I'd just as soon stay at Brown's but as most have said I'll go along with the concensus.

Ray

I prefer Bimini Bay. With that said, I'm fine staying at Brown's if that's what the majority wants to do. I plan to spend quite a bit of time in Bimini and at Bimini Bay this summer, so it's not that important where we stay this time. I really like the pool and the beach at Bimini Bay. Now, the new pool and restaurant is open. The beachfront restaurant is closed -- that property along with the lots to the north and south of it have been sold to one person. I also was told a new bar would be opening this month. Bimini Bay should soon be publicly announcing a $100 million investment from an Asian firm along with plans to build a few hotels, an expanded casino and more. Not sure how well the locals will accept it, but the plans for Bimini Bay keep getting bigger and bigger. Anyway, I think the place is beautiful and the changes are fun to watch.

Cathie wants Bimini Bay. Nick wants Brown's. I want Big Game (won't be open).

I think we should stay in each marina for 2 nights (we're arriving Thursday, leaving Sunday). so everyone gets a taste of what they want.

How's that for fence straddling!

Randy

A fair amount of pretentiousness at Bimini which kind of makes my butt hurt. That said, if you guys are there that issue falls away. It is nice to be on a floating dock and have great showers. I vote Bimini Bay.

Not that I have a vote, but if I did, I'd vote Bimini Bay, but anywhere with you guys it tops in my book. Great pool and showers, golf cart races??? Hoping my son Adam will come down for the trip from Boston where he lives now.

Votes are in......

Miss N Mountains - Bimini Bay
Ship O Fools - Brown's
Phoenix - Bimini Bay
Sunny Daze - Bimini Bay
About Time - Bimini Bay
White Pearl - Brown's
Odyssey - both (but no one thought that was a good idea) therefore, Bimini Bay

5 to 2 in favor of Bimini Bay.

Yesterday, Gilbert said there was availability for 5/27 through 5/31 but we should get our reservations soon. I would like to work on BB for a better rate before we all book so I'll call tomorrow and see if they will give us a group rate.

Now, where do we want to stay in Bimini Bay? There is the Fisherman's Village Marina (north side) or the Mega Yacht Marina (south end). Wait a minute...... Jack is with the group. That automatically puts us in the Mega Yacht Marina.

Of course you get a vote! How does it look for Adam, do you think he can join us?

Randy

Thanks Randy... I think he will.. I know he's looking forward to getting to warmer weather, and really enjoyed the trip last year!! I'm heading up to see him in about 3 weeks and will know then..

Hope to see you all again soon!

Barry,
Did not mean to exclude you in the vote. I didn't go back and read to see who all was going. My Bad dude.

Interesting information Mike. I wonder what they're going to do with the restaurant.

Are there any good deals to be had there?

Randy

No worries Jack... As long as we are all hanging out together its all good with me!

Just spoke to Bimini Bay, they need for each of the captains to fill out a form and fax/email it to them to secure the reservations. They will discount the rate 50 cents per foot lower than their usual holiday rate ($3.50 is their usual holiday rate).

I will send out the form to each of you via email. Please note on the form 2 things...

1 - staying together with the group
2 - staying at the mega yacht marina

Randy

Randy,
To answer your question about the restaurant, I've been told by one of the property owners that the owner of Leon Medical Centers owns the property north and south of the old reestaurant, Casa Lyon. About the same time the new Sabor Restaurant opened he made an offer Bimini Bay couldn't refuse for the old restaurant site. Rumor is he paid $4 million for it and plans to build a home on the site.
And about the deals....yes, Bimini Bay is offering some pretty good discounts on the unsold units trying to get all of them under contract in the next few months.

Just posted on Explorer Charts this morning. I'm hoping they will have this situation figured out by May but....

Bimini Channel, no buoys

Posted: 12 Mar 2010 12:40 PM PST

The Bimini entry channel has no buoys at this time. BEWARE. The boat PARADOX went up on the sand bar on 3/11/2010 in breaking waves and although salvaged is severely damaged. This channel is dangerous in any moderate to strong westerlies; if you aren’t familiar with it get help. (Editor’s Note: See the February 2010 updated chart of this channel at www.explorercharts.com under Free Updates, Near Bahamas, which details the current channel location and recent shoaling.)
