Memorial Day trip aka The 2010 Get Chris and Ken to the Bahamas Trip

Larry-will be on the same trip in the 265 pictured. See you there, cant wait.

Yep, that's not a new problem. I have had fun times at Big Johns, but have stayed up at Bluewater or Big Game, away from the party. When I've been at Big John's in the past, I have gazed at the boats docked out there and wonder how they put up with the noise. I'd rather be a Big Game, but you know the questions about that. This was the only trip that worked in the calendar. We haven't been in a few years, and I'm bring my son, his wife, and her brother. I know the "kids" won't mind the noise. LOL. I'm looking forward to the trip too. Jim, look forward to meeting you.

Sure looking forward to Memorial Day weekend. Brown's is not too bad just a tad loud at night but by then I'm either asleep or in the sauna with a beer in hand.

Ray

I'm so looking forward to it too, but if I the friends I invited come too, not sure if they would all be able to stay on board, and there's no way they'd want to stay at the hotel at Browns, so I might have to look into Bimini Bay, or get some great noise canceling ear plugs and some good sleeping pills ;-)

And when you have to hang a sign at the entrance to the club that reads, 'No Pot Smoking', you know the crowd is going to be a loud one. Although, you would be right in the center of the action at 2AM. IMO....

I hadn't seen a sign like that before.

Good question, Jack. I think this trip has taken a backseat to the Exumas trip on this board. Let's get a list of who is going and where everyone wants to stay as well as everyone's anticipated departure/return dates. I didn't look back through the posts, but we should also have a back-up destination in mind in case we run into weather like last year.

Guys

We have all of my Colorado to Cape Coral Airline tickets for April, May, and July.

We are in Florida for two weeks starting April 16.
We are in Florida May 29th through June 12th
We are in Florida June 30th through July 15th

We are planning on leaving for Bimini May 30th or 31st. and staying 3 or 4 days. We are considering Bimini Bay, but we are open to any other Marinas. After Bimini, We are staying several days in Key Largo or Islamorada for a few days of diving.

Our schedule is flexible once we get to Florida if anyone is interested in staying in Bimini a little longer or coming down for some diving in the Keys.

Ken

Where we gonna stay? I am ready to get reservations.
Anyone know where the Flingers are staying?

Jack

According to the Bahamas web site, the Flingers are staying at Browns Marina but they arrive on Wednesday June 2. We'll be gone by then, right? Aren't people going from 5/27 - 5/31?

I think the group is .....

Miss N Mountains
Ship O Fools
Phoenix
Sunny Daze
About Time
White Pearl
Odyssey

If there is anyone else, please add your names to the list! Everyone is welcome to come.

Regarding the marina, I don't think Big Game will be open by then so we have to choose between Brown's or B Bay. That weekend is Memorial Day so we should make reservations soon. I am split between the two. Like Jack says, Browns has that old Bahamas feel, is close to the ocean, has clearer water and is close to the town (not much of a town but what ever there is, it is close to it). B Bay has pools, facilities, better docks and much quieter waters.

I'll go where the group goes.

I think the back up destination is Boca Chita however there is a similar anchorage at the south end of Key Biscayne that actually has a restaurant at the harbor.

We keep waiting we'll be staying at Honeymoon for 3 days. I'll stay where the group stays also. Let's have a vote. I vote for Browns but my family votes for Bimini Bay so I'm canceled out.

Jack

Ship O Fools votes Browns just because of the easy in and out. I like Bimini Bay a lot but the time wasted going back there is time I can be on the dock drinking. As we all know it is a contest.

We are leaving the morning of Friday the 28th and returning Monday the 31st.

for those who are interested in Bimini Bay, whether it's for this trip or other trips, this is posted on their web site.....

Bimini Bay Resort and Marina's Bahamas Marina Loyalty Program allows those traveling by boat to take advantage of Bimini's close location – only 48 miles off the coast of South Florida – without the burden of paying the cruising permit cost. The Marina Loyalty Program gives money back to return boaters in the form of resort credits to offset the cost of the cruiser permit. All resort credits can be used toward marina slips, room reservations and food and beverage outlets.

Today's cruiser permits cost $150 for boats 35' and smaller and $300 for larger boats, and boaters are allowed to use their permits twice within a 90-day period. To subsidize this cost, Bimini Bay Resort is offering full refunds on every permit purchased after the first one for anyone visiting the resort the third visit and onwards from April 2 - October 31, 2009, based on a two-night marina stay. After the purchase of the first permit and travel to the island within the allotted 90-day period, Bimini Bay Resort is asking that all return resort-goers (having visited the resort since January 1, 2009) visit the dock master's office to receive two installments of credit – 50 percent credit upon their third visit to the resort and another 50 percent credit on their fourth trip – totaling the full cost of the cruiser permit. All resort credits can be used toward marina slips, room reservations and food and beverage outlets.

Randy - I was looking at that earlier today too. The date range (..."third visit and onwards from April 2 - October 31, 2009"...) was from 2009. Do you know if they are doing it again this year?

I spoke to Gilbert this afternoon and asked the same question. He said he would get back to me. Hopefully we'll hear from him tomorrow.
