Memorial Day trip aka The 2010 Get Chris and Ken to the Bahamas Trip

My questions is did they put the channel markers back in? It is kind of a pain in the butt going into the inlet/channel with no markers. 8' in the middle and 2' on either side of you.

I personally like Browns cause of the old world feel. It's old and dilapidated like me. Plus the idle to Bimini Bay just seems like it takes forever. I take my boat out every day I'm there so it adds a lot of time going in and out.
As far as the channel markers sometime around August (I think) they put in 2 sets of markers that make it mindless. They are just floaters but serve the purpose.

I definitely like the water color closer to the inlet that is for sure but would like to have some type of a resort feel. Hopefully things at Browns will get finished (not counting on that anytime soon) or at least Big Game.

Big game would be my choice if they ever open back up. Randy with Odyssey had some talk with them last year seems they owed some past power bills and that was the problem. All three times I was there the place was kept up. They had landscape guys working maintenance so somebodys still putting money into it.

Tom remember when we were in Bimini and Browns was closed for remodeling? Man after looking at the website that must have been some sort of remodel.
Anyone know if Big Game ever opened back up?

Jack

I thought you'd get a kick out of that.. Maybe if you drink enough it looks like that.

Bimini Bay does have the amenities and it does look like the wedsite. I can do either but lean to Brown's too.

Swimming at the dock all night, Jack repairing every boat on the dock, the restful Junkaroo band, watching Mike back it in with a strong current and a few cocktails (brilliant work IMO), Ray's blender that has more HP than my lawn mower. I don't know, it just kind of works in it's own way...

The Brown's dock at the inlet on the first and the beach right across the road from Brown's in the second photo.

I know it is a little early to ask this, but do any of you have an idea how long you will be staying during the week?

My issue is I will be in Colorado until the Friday or Saturday before Memorial Day. We can provision and get out of Cape Coral by Sunday, but we would not get to Bimini until Monday, Memorial Day.

We could and most likely will stay the rest of the week and head back to Cape Coral the next weekend.

This issue is Heather's last day of school is Thursday before Memorial Day. I unfortunately cannot change that.

Tom - those pics are great!!! What memories they bring back. Beautiful friends, seas and weather. Can't wait to get back.

As far as "the place to stay" in Bimini, all the marinas are different and have their good points. Personally, I really miss Big Game. That place was special. Like trit posted, I also heard that Harvey was taking over BBG and hope he brings the place back to what it was before. I would stay there first.

Ken,
I will probably have to leave Monday or at latest Tuesday. If I could stay longer I would but Work and school dictate that we come back on those days.

Jack

Jack,

I appreciate that. Work & School are always getting in the way of a good time. We may still go depending on weather as our schedule is more flexible after the weekend than before.

I still think that depending on the airlines we may be able to leave Colorado late friday, provision Saturday and get out of Cape Coral on Sunday.

If any of you are thinking of staying past Memorial Day, please let me know.

Ken

Ken-Jim from the ******** board (I am the guy that bought that Sea Ray in Cape Coral), there is a Bahamas Fling to Bimini June 2-6 that I am going to try to participate in. I beleive they are staying at Brown's. Some of the other BE folks may be there. So you wont be alone that week if you go.

Jim,

We have been to Marker 92 and Nauti Mermaid twice now. Pretty nice. Tarpon Pointe really needed them.

How are you planning on getting to Bimini?. We believe it is quicker to head to Marathon and fuel/stay and head north east to Bimini.

I have run the Okee waterway, and it takes all day due to the locks.

Keep me posted on your dates and let me know when you are actually leaving Cape Coral. We can wait if you want and run together.

BTW: The group here at CSR is great. We took a trip with the guys posting on this thread last May. One of the best trips of my life.

Sounds like a blast. Always wanted to do a Bahamas trip... but they're "over there"... and I'm "over here"... LOL. Are you going to leave the boat over there, or bring it back here?

If you need an extra body aboard for the ICW trip to the other coast let me know- I always wanted to make that run. I assume we've had enough rain that Okeechobee's navigable again?

Ken-I plan to trailer the boat from cape coral over to fort lauderdale at some point. Store it there, take the Bimini trip and then haul it back to Colorado. Unless it hit the Lotto and then I may just stay in florida for a while :)

If you haven't gone to the Bahamas you really should go sometime. I thought it can't be all that but it really is.
I'm going to leave the Boat on the East coast. It just seems to make more sense than running back and forth.
Oke at the moment has 7.5 feet nav. so it should be OK come May. As for riding over I may take you up on that. We get closer I'll stay in touch.

Jack

So much more to do down there on the right coast. Sailfish a few miles off the beach, Keys, Bahamas. And flights to FTL from Tampa are cheap enough to run back and forth on the weekends when you feel like it. Great!

A former bus partner in Riverview has a small plane that he flys back and forth to his 10 Meter Trojan he keeps in the Abacos. Jealous? You betcha...

Looks like Ship o fools will be leaving early the 28th May and returning before noon the 31st May. Haven't nailed down dock space yet but I'm leaning towards Lighthouse point. Just seems like easy in and out.
As said earlier I like Brown's but I will go where the group goes.

Jack

Hey Guys,

Been away from the forum for a while, working twice as hard and hoping for another great trip or two this year with some great friends I've made here, and hopefully new ones as well. I also had to help my son Adam with his move to Boston a few weeks ago as his job required him to move. I know as summer approaches he will be raring to get back on the boat and snorkeling in the Bahamas..

As for where to stay, as long as we are all together it doesn't matter; though the pool at Bimini Bay is great, and I do miss Big Game-especially the breakfast of bimini bread french toast!!

If we stay at Brown's at least I'll know to bring some earplugs this time!!

Hope everyone is well and look forward to seeing you all soon.

All the best,

Barry

Hi all

I'm in for the Memorial Day Bimini trip, assuming we can get this doggone knee to heal properly. If the weather is bad I'd be all for Boca Chita or points south.
