Made the Offer 50DA!

JC
Followed this thread since I joined and I can feel what you are feeling.
I spent May thru Aug 1 this past summer travelling the midwest every weekend!
Detroit..Minneapolis...Port Clinton...too many towns in Michigan
mulitple times to some.
Thought I had a done deal up in MN and was already arranging transport and the deal blew up on a Sun
Monday I found my new/old boat
Transported to Chicago 2 weeks later
Bottom Line:
Slightly bigger boat
Batter layout/floor plan
More equipment
Better condition
Lastly..........$10,000 less

Keep looking that's half the adventure !

Dan

Thanks again guys for the kind words of encouragement. Dan i have always liked the look of the 350. It looks like you found a great boat. The great 500da adventure continues!!!!!!!!!!! :smt021 JC

JC,
From the time I first saw my boat on the internet until I settled spanned a period of nearly two months. Part of that time was spent peeling my wife off of the ceiling.... "WHAT!!!! ANOTHER NEW BOAT!!!!!WE HAVE ONLY HAD THE 320 FOR 9 MONTHS!!!WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!AND WE ONLY HAD THE 260 FOR 9 MONTHS BEFORE THAT!!!!"

Ahem. A quick trip to Mervis diamonds for about two carats of therapy helped.

At any rate, this is very much a buyer's market. You did the right thing to run away from this lunatic owner who clearly has something to hide (Oil changes annually? Huh?)

The pursuit is half the fun. I know for sure that fwebster and I both felt a little bit of a let down when my deal was done and I had cruised the 420DA home--having thoroughly worked the dealer as hard as we could! Enjoy the game, and always be ready to walk away. An even better boat is right around the corner. Be patient, have fun, stick to your guns, and leverage all the experience on this board. We are all here to help, and enjoy your pursuit right along with you. Check out Dom's 410 thread--over 7,500 views! With football season nearly over and the shrink wrap still on all of us frustrated SR captains need something to do!

regards

Skip i read your post and almost cried from laughing. My wife read it and said " That is an extremly wise man". On the hunt already this morning. Awaiting my deposit money back and we will be ready to go again. THANKS EVERYBODY, ALL YOU GUYS ARE GREAT! JC

Wow, what an ordeal. Sorry it didn't work out but you did the right thing. As my calm wife told me when I was house hunting last year money is the liquid leverage that you can spend on anything, or nothing and still be happy.

You have boat fever that we all know is tough to conquer. I suggest taking a few weeks off, take a weekend away with the wife, watch the play-offs, or something. You are in a buyers market and have the leverage. The right one is out there but be patient.

Good Luck!

I don't agree with the thought that you should take some time off.

Finding the right boat is a journey, not a day trip. You can buy a Chevrolet or a Lexus and drive it home in a day. Boats are not that way. My journey took 3 years to find the right boat, offered for sale under the right conditions by a seller we could work with and who was above board.

Your experience has just been part of the learning curve of buying larger used boats. If anything you did could have been handled differently, it was that you probably got involved with brokers before fully understanding the ways a deal could go south. But even if you were prepared and knew all there was to know, you would not have avoided the Stuart 500DA owner issue.....it would have happened anyway.

Keep looking, you never know when the right boat will come on the market or how.

Atleast you got to go to Key Largo :smt038 .

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. As everyone has said, you'll find your perfect cruiser. Just keep looking.

widowmaker,
I guess watching the playoffs is an alternative if your are one of the four teams left. If your team is out of (or was never in) the playoffs your looking for other things to do! Besides JC3 is a Kentucky boy and they prefer a different sport in January!

500DA

Just checked-in, and wondering if this is still an active thread.

JC bought a 450DA so I don't think he want a 500DA extra

But you can always try to give this thread a extra input

500DA

Seems like the deal wasn't to be.
I traded for a 1995 500DA in early 2004, and have been very pleased. There were some issues that needed to be addressed that related to factory design - nothing outrageous, but important none the less.

SEERAY96, Glad you like your 50DA. I would have bought this 50DA but the owners wouldnt or didnt want me to borescope, etc... for engine survey. Got a 1998 450DA instead. Needless to say, I really liked that old big girl and i think it would have made a nice boat. If you can, What kind of issues do you have? JC
