LI Rendezvous - 2011

What date do you guys prefer for our LI Rendezvous?

    30
... as long as we have over 10 boats we might get a discount. ...

Do our dinghys count?

Seriously though, maybe the first page should show not just the length of stay, but which days. For example I am staying 2 nights, but Friday night and Saturday night.

I think some are staying Saturday and Sunday

Alex...Is this date final and MYC is the destination.......

John,

Based on the poll the date choice is clear. We had over 10 votes for MYC out of 13 currently boats on the list. So, I though there's no point to bit the subject as we're pretty much set on those two items. If anyone feels otherwise, please advise.

I'm waiting the dockmaster to tell me what should be our procedure interms of booking, as well as suggesting the cut off date for the group. Then, others will just need to sign up on their own. The original list usually guaranties the group to stay together where others may end up on a different dock or just away from the group. It's no big deal, we've done this with AC trips and usually 99% of the boats stay together.

Hey guys,

Sorry I am a little late jumping in, but we would like to join the party! Alex, great job in getting this underway! We will be in Block the week prior if we are doing Montauk on the 12 -14, I think MYC is a great place for everyone (Block is still my favorite!).
Look forward to finally meeting allot of you!

Arrive on the 12th , depart on the 14th

Boat: 330 Sundancer - 11’ 6” beam
2 x 30 Amp (I have a “Y” can use a single 30 too)

Crew: Larry (me)
Melina (Admiral)
Greg (8 years old)

Just as an FYI....Full Moon is 8-13-11. Should be beautiful nights out there....and some extra water in low spots during high tides.

At the current rate we may have more here than AC...

Are we going to have a 'Table of the Gods' type deal?

I can make name tags...

I don't see your name on the list Dom, why don't you join us. Should be a good time...

Greg:

I am trying 'feverishly' to convince the admiral. Big issue with me right now is my 91 year old MIL who lives with us. Everytime admiral and I even want to go out to dinner, we need someone home to keep an eye on things. I still have hopes that we can make it, but I just can't commit.

Alex....do you have a column for 'definitely maybe'?

.....Good point. I have a couple of pigtail adapters if needed. The 50/125 -> 30A AKA Watchhill plug and the "normal" 50/250 -> 30A

Paul, that Watch Hill adapter is only of use in the federal marinas and some other really odd places, but you guys don't need to worry about adapters at MYC. Most of their posts can accomodate 30A or 50A needs.

Your dinghy is a 2nd boat .....I love it. We'll miss it at the Block :(

Good idea......adding before we loose track. Folks, please review the data on the 1st page and correct me if I missed something.

Larry,

Glad to have you aboard. Updating the first page.....

Good idea Dominic. I'll add this cuz we've got several "maybes"....

Greg, that was my question #3 to the group, after we're settled with the date and location. You bit me to it. So, let's decide guys. I personally think it's a great idea to have our "Table of the Gods". This provides more opportunities for folks to interact and stay together as a group instead of everyone running on their own to a restaurant or some place else. We’ll have the 2nd night for that.

Greg, thanks for volunteering to do the name tags.

I just checked the MYC website and they have these activities listed for August.

August 13-14: Historical Society Craft Fair at Second House Museum
August 19-21: Montauk Artist's Association 17th Annual Fine Art Show
August 20 - 21: Mercury Marine Montauk Grand Slam Fishing Tournament
August 28 - September 4: Hamptons Classic Horse Show

Vince,

Thanks for the info.

Looks like you're ready to place yourself on the "Possibly Attending" list?....LOL

Its January and we just got another 14 inches of snow last night.. I am ready to launch the boat and head to the Bahamas! I still can't commit at this time, but I traveling there virtually through the magic of Raymarine Ray Tech navigator, Bing Maps Birds eye view and Google searches.

Vince,

Winter is the perfect time for us (seasonal boaters) to do most of the detailed planning for our trips. I usually take my time and do detailed homework, including asking lots of questions here on CSR. I actually enjoy planning very much, especially when it's a lot of snow on the ground. As soon as it warms up, this is the time to get my hands dirty and get the boat ready. So, not much time for planning. And, obviously when the season starts I just want to have everything ready and just go boating. I do final review of my pre-planned trips and enjoy the summer. At least this is the approach I'm trying to use.

Hey Russ, I love Greenport. We stay at Mictchells. There is plenty to do with the kids. Key word "with". Greenport is not a place I would allow my 12 or 16 yr old daughters to go off by themselves. As a family we do all the things you suggest for kids in GP. However if I'm going to be at a rendevous with my kids and while entertaining fellow csr members we will need to know that the kids will be safe unattended. A place like MYC or Block Island is a place where the kids can go off and swim in the pool or visit town and not have the "element" that exists in Greenport. Just sayin.

Really?! "an element"? I have not seen it in a long time. Ours and many of our friends kids have spent a couple weeks a summer growing up out there- from age 10 to 19 and never had an issue on thier own. I will say 12 - 15 or more years ago it was very different out there but a lot changed over the years. But so was Montauk, it was a very rough and seedy place. I think BI has always been ok but also that can be a sense of false security. Just because the element cant afford to live on the island does not mean they cant buy a ferry ticket. I would say assume an element is always present to be safe. I would still be more comfortable if I had young children to be in Greenport then Montauk and certainly would not put them on a shuttle or cab and send them into town on their own. But i don't! So I will agree to disagree and default to folks that do have young kids.
On another topic, i look forward to meeting you and seeing that bad a** boat of yours. I have only seen pics of that model and followed your earlier thread with interest. You don't see many and I have never seen one up close.

I will agree to disagree as well. Enough said on that subject.

I look forward to the MYC get together and meeting you as well Russ.

I am really looking forward to this get together too. It will be fun running my boat for more than 20 minutes and getting to meet all of you guys.

Paul...Todd...and others I have bounced around these waters for years and can assure you (as can others like Russ and Dancin Dave for instance) that the trip to myc thru the Shinn. canal is no big deal in good weather. Also, the trip to block from myc could be made in a 13' whaler in good weather. Don't let the fact that it is "open ocean" deter you, as on a clear day you will see land all around you. Also, we can probably arrange to have you follow someone if weather isn't ideal.

Thats right Ric, piece of cake. I remember going to Block and Barnstable in my single engine 26'. Plan your travel, dont take chances, prepare and have good electronics.
