LI Rendezvous - 2011

What date do you guys prefer for our LI Rendezvous?

That was the ballpark I was thinking. Thanks Alex.

5 hrs x 30 gph = 150 gals of fuel? I figure it to be less fuel consumed as all of the travel is not done @ cruising speed and you also had a thiry minute idle time! If I hold 200 gals, I should be ok w/o stopping for fuel, yes?

BTW: I only voted for 8/20 because no one else had! Either date was ok with me!

Todd, I had no worries about the fuel with my 200gal, but that marina by the locks had cheapest fuel in the area. So, it made perfect sense to fill since I was heading to NJ after Watch Hill.

BTW, 5hrs X 30GPH is not very good numbers. You need to come up with the average. There're few no wake zones. Between WH and Shinnecock Bay it's was good time to have lunch. That's on the way from MYC to Watch Hill.

You'll love the ride. It's all in protective water. The only rougher area is after you'll be passing by Shelter Island and getting closer to MYC, it opens up there with not much protection, but still nothing to worry on 330DA. On the way from the locks to Shelter Island we had lunch while cruising. The water color is awesome there. No issues with depth either.

Important note: Watch out for lobster posts, they're all over the place there.

BTW: I only voted for 8/20 because no one else had! Either date was ok with me!

Well, now you know that the feature can accurately calculate

Paul, good to see you back on CSR and nice to see you at the show last weekend. We'll be back on the River soon, my friend...

Brian, thanks for the welcome back. It was good to see you at the show. How did you like that 52? I'll be back on that River as soon as we get some warmer weather. C'mon Spring!!

Russ,
BTW- Is there actually a Paul sighting on CSR?? Well, well, well, my friend, How have you been? It's about time for that off-season get together we talked about. I shall call you soon! I hope all is well with you.

He's back!! I went underground for a bunch of months, but I'm here. I'm very good....Building the spring project list, budgeting all my projects....getting cabin fever!! It is good to see you here. How is your family? Sherri and the kids? I'm looking forward to the "off season" meet up. Absolutely, give me a call.

Hey Paul, thank you and my wife was just asking if you guys are coming. Glad to have you on the list. We'll bring extra Chamomile tea....

I'm glad to be a part of this.I certainly didn't mention it last year (that was about the time I fell off the boards), but we really did enjoy ourselves, especially the company. Chamomile tea, too funny. I'll be stocking the boat with every flavor I can find!!

Russ, I mentioned this in a separate thread, but it was very nice seeing you at the show. We are looking forward to meeting up with you again this summer.

Paul, what's your vote for the location from the choices on the first page?

I placed the following results there:

Current votes
Brian - MYC
John - MYC
Jeff - MYC
Todd - MYC
Dave - MYC
Alex - MYC

Alex, my vote is for MYC. Went to Southampton College (Years Ago) and was in the Coast Guard and stationed at Shinecock CG station for 2 years in Hampton Bays! Shinecock is a beautiful area but shallow and sandwiched between Hampton Bay's and Southampton. Nothing going on there and facilities aren't great! Unless you want to go drinkin at the Boardy Barn! We will probably bring our Dog's with us, what are the regs. with them at MYC?

I just checked out the MYC page (as well as things to do in Montauk). It sounds good, you can put me down for there.

I've never been there, so it'll be good to go someplace new.

We may be bringing some friends as well (on our boat).

I wonder if we can get a group rate ???

Alex,
You were correct in your assumption regarding my choice. Although, I do have to say that after visiting their website, Block Island seems intriguing. Aside from the trip out into the open seas (Gulp) it would probably be the top choice. But, as I stated, I have not been anywhere so anyplace is cool with me and MYC looks very cool too!

Brian,
How long of a trip is MYC timewise from our area?

Todd

I don't have my log books with me (I'm in Boston) but if I recall, it is 72 miles from my slip on the Patchogue River to the MYC. Last year we flew through Moriches and didn't have to wait much for the locks, calm seas and no wind and it took me a little over 4 hours. As Alex said, there is a long no wake zone between Mastic and Westhampton, which takes almost an hour to go through, then on to the locks. Smooth sailing from there. The one thing with this trip is there is ALOT of navigating to do, with some very skinny water on the western most leg. Alex is also correct saying that the fuel docks just before Shinnecock have the cheapest gas, though for anyone with diesels MYC brings a fuel truck in on request that is much cheaper than anywhere on the Island including Star Island YC. Just as information, Block Island is about a 45 minute hop from MYC and on a clear day you're never out of sight of land (though you'll be in 120 feet of water)

We go to MYC every year with another 5-6 boats, all repeat customers and have never gotten a discount. Doesn't mean we can't try though.

This is definitely one of my big concerns. Hopefully there will be others heading at the same time with a little more experience. I know you may be coming from another area and may not be available but, If you are I will be glad to follow!
I don't draft as much as some bigger vessels and I hope this helps. Last thing I need to do is ground the boat with my wife and kids onboard....can you say "Sold"?
Seriously, I will do my diligence and try and plot a good course. I remember last year you and Russ talking about which bouys to follow etc. I hope we have that good intel this year too!
Block Island really sounds cool but, for my wife, being out of sight of land may not be an option.

If we do wind up at Block, I would be happy to lead anyone across from the Montauk area, I'll most likely be coming through the sound.

Sounds like we're getting more votes for MYC. Great!

I emailed MYC dockmaster with some questions and hopefully they'll respond back soon.

The other question of the day, are we all staying for 2 nights (I don't remember if they have 2night min. policy) but for the purpose of the reservation I'd need to know?

I assume we can do this as we do with AC. One person has the list and faxes/sends it over to the MYC with all the info. BTW, this means I'll need a little more details like LOA, beam and shore power requirements for each boat.

Alex, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the spreadsheet I've used before for multi baot reservations at MYC.

Todd,

I agree that if you can follow someone with more local knowledge it's better. But, your main friends are good chart, buoys numbers info and high tide.

I think I might have listed the buoys and spots to watch out for in my trip. Read the post #118 in this thread "http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26021&page=12"

Greg,

We should talk about as I'm looking to go to Block as well. Let's coordinate the dates.

Alex......I will leave on late Wednesday night after work and driving to cape, get there Thursday am so I will stay 3 nights.....THU, FRI, SAT and depart Sunday......

Hi all,

Was wondering if you could add us to the list? The weekend is in the middle of 2 weeks off for us. So we will definitely be out cruising somewhere on Long Island sound.

Our particulars:

"kostond": Nick and Maria Ryan(5), Adam(2), "TBD" 1986 390 Sportfish, Waterford Ct.

We plan on staying for Sat and Sunday. LOA=39 ft. Beam=14ft. I am pretty sure our boat has 2 30 amp connections for shore power.

Just bought her in November. Haven't really looked closely at what she had for shorepower. Wont know for sure till the next time I travel to Wildwood Nj to check on her. I know there were a number of pigtails and connectors for shore power. I should be all set.

thanks
Nick K

The only time I have been to Block Island was with a friend after he got his pilot's license. We flew in, had lunch and flew home. I didn't get the impression that there was much to do there.

That's why I stick with boating

Alex, how long a ride do you think MYC is from Squan inlet?

Marshall,

That's a big question. It all depends on how you're plannig to get the. There're two options:

1. Straight run from MI to Montauk (~115-120NM)
2. Go around on the inside. MI to Shinnecock Inlet (~80-85NM), thru the Shinnecock Canal, passing Shelter Island (on the north or south sides).

My suggestion for people who don't take many long trips, don't do it in a single run. You and your crew will be very tired. Break it down in two legs and find a port of your interest midway somewhere. Also, I don't think it's the best approach to do a straight run in your 330DA (due to fuel capacity limit).

Hope this helps.
