As the boring winter rolls by it’s the best time to do our summer trips planning. We had some interest in the other thread on putting together another event where folks from Tri-State area can join. So, let’s start this thread with some ideas on how we can plan this event by choosing the time and place that works best for majority.

Just to bring back some memories, we had a great time last year by holding two events, here’s the link for those that missed it (I can never get tired of looking at these pictures): LI Rendezvous 2010 and post #118 here: http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26021&page=12

Please go to the last page and post your input and add your information if you wish to be added to the list as a participant.

    Date: Friday August 12th
    Location: Montauk Yacht Club http://www.montaukyachtclub.com/

Those 14 boats from "List of Participants" are now officially registered with MYC. Please call the dockmaster and provide your credit card info to complete your reservation. If anyone else wishes to be added to the participants list, please don't hesitate to contact me or the dockmaster directly.

    Dockmaster: John Murray
    Phone: 631-668-3100

Group Dinner (or "the Table of the Gods" as we call it in AC Rendezvous) - The event is scheduled for Friday August 12th at 6pm. If the weather doesn't cooporate we'll move the event to Saturday Aug 13th.

Please post your table offerings so we don’t duplicate the meals, but instead have very interesting menu of various choices. Also keep in mind that MYC dosn’t allow grilling on board, but they have several grills available at the end of the docks. We’ll need to bring charcoals if we want to use those grills as I was told that MYC doesn’t have charcoals in their supply.

So, if anyone wants to join but feel more comfortable traveling as a group (for admiral's and kid's comfot level), please don't hesitate and ask questions in this thread. We might have 3-4 boats traveling together from NJ area.

72 - primary channel to communicate with the group.
69 - backup channel if we get too much noise on 72.
16 - is always on. This will be the channel to use in case if we don't get respons on 72 or 69. Once the communication is estublished with a vessel we'll ask to switch to 72 or 69, whichever will be the better option at the time.

Let's get the ball rolling

My first preference would be block (distance for me from the Cape) and maybe you will get more people (NJ, NY, RI, CT, MA) my second choice would be somewhere where there is a marina.....Any date is fine.

All of those spots sound good to me. As for when, August is good for me too, But I'm out the first week or so, hopefully cruising the Chesapeake Bay. So later in the month would be better for me. Also over a weekend would be better, I'm already taking a lot of time this year.

I think it's obviously best to schedule an event on a weekend. Otherwise, we'll loose number of people who can't do it during the week days.

I like Block idea, but just thinking that a number of smaller boats and those who don't cruise a lot might not feel comfortable getting there. So, in order to go "easy" on them may be we should look in to something closer to main land. You can never go wrong with MYC or Shelter Island. But, let's get more ideas going.

That's great. Can you give me your crew names (at least those that you know at the moment that will participate), so we can match our standard format on the first page? Other than that I think you got all the info in your sig.

Because it is a 100 +/- run (8 hours) for me I will arrive on Thursday and leave Sunday. If anyone from my area would like to cruise together, let me know.

Alex, I can't commit to attending at this point, but it is on my wish list. Depending on the route, Montauk looks to be about 130 miles of open ocean if we plot a course straight from Point Pleasant. August on the Ocean is usually rough, so that would not be my first choice. If we go up the coast of NJ, through NY harbor into the LI sound, that number easily climbs to 170+ miles. That is a lot of fuel and time driving for a weekend trip. (Round trip, I estimate 500 gallons of fuel at what could be $4.50 a gallon= $2250 in fuel?)

I would be up for it, but not sure if my kids would enjoy such a trip. I start hearing "how much longer?" 1/2 hour into some trips.

I'm definitely in for this trip, depending on the date of course. I've been to Block several times - great place. Nantucket is way cool, but that is a bit more daunting for the smaller boats than even Block. Haven't been to some of the other locations you mentioned, but I'm good with where ever other people want to go.

    Vince,

I did this last year and the run was very nice. Don't overcomplicate it as there're plenty of options. I did MI to JI and it's only 1hr 45m run, the rest is inside. Depending on how our caravan wishes to do it (meaning if we go for multiple ports of call, not just Montauk), then it's even easier. I think this time I would shoot from MI streight for Shinnecock Inlet.

If you have any concerns I'd volunteer to be a lead boat to break the seas for ya .

If you never took your boat to LI, you'll love it and will comeback on number of occasions.

At this time we're planning to take off for a week to do multiple ports, might do the Block Island this time as well.

Here's basic numbers info from last year's trip.
    Some statistics:
    Duration: 8days / 7nights

    Distance: 295NM
    Engine Hours: 18
Fuel Usage: 362gallons. Avg. fuel burn 0.81MPG.

    Hey guys,

I'm glad we have more and more people signing up. I'm adding the info as I'm getting it, but please be sure to check if I got all your details correctly in the first post and let me know if anything needs to be changed.

I also added preliminary proposed dates Aug-13th or 20th, since we were descussing mid Aug. as better timing in another thread. Let's start narrowing the date to make sure it's ok for the most people and then we can start voting for the desired location.

Sure now that you are upgrading from your little 320 to diesel 40 something..

BTW, I have been to Long Island a number of times. I have even ridden a jet ski from the Statue of Liberty to Jones Beach and back several times. (little hard to walk on Mondays after those trips) I once spun a hub on my propeller on my old 26 sundancer coming back from Jones Beach and had to change a prop in the ocean at night. That was fun. The ocean doesn't worry me, it's my 9 year old daughter that scares me .

I thought she did fine on the AC trip last year. I guess, the only way to "sell it" to admiral and the kids is by saying that you'll be in the same water for the same amount of time, only going east instead of south .

Wow, a lot has happened since the last time i logged in! Is that all I had to say- let's do Greenport?! Now we have venues, dates, a new thread and Alex at the charge-excellent!!

Obviously count us in, anytime August is good and anywhere mentioned works. Few thoughts- Block is expensive at the dock but accommodating (I will be there for 2 weeks in July). You can put two people on a mooring for $40 a night each, lots of them but first come first serve and they run a launch service. Greenport at Townsend it's a bit of a walk into town but very nice with pool. Mitchell no pool but right in the middle of everything, new floating cement docks and can jump in the water. Nothing really on Shelter but easily accessed from Greenport, great anchorage. Montauk is expensive and a ride into town, very nice but not a whole lot going on. Just two cents.

    Wow Russ,
After reading that I don't think I want to go anymore.........
I'm gonna have a little trouble with the Mrs. as she is not a boater at heart like myself. She has agreed to the AC trip with shadow9999, Robert. But her first reaction to another trip with a group of peeps she doesn't know has been less than stellar! I think she is afraid I will disappear to socialize leaving her alone to care for the kids. I will continue to work on her or else I will need a buddy to first mate the run.......Either way I am really looking for to the summer!!
