Lake Michigan Gathering

numbers

Petep, sounds like about 6-10 boats so far, I could be wrong, Saltydog made a roll call earlier, but nothing happened with it. I'm still waiting for the big boys to make a decision on the destination. Stay tuned for more futhur details.

Frankfort works for us depending on the time in July. SBW

sounds good to me

Well Frankfort sounds good to me, but I'm not sure about Saltydog, its his home port and well it's not fun to not cruise anywhere to get there. Me and the wife were going to visit up there in frankfort soon, on a vacant weekend.
Salty would know all the amenities there, maybe he can fill us in on that location...I need a nice launch Ramp for sure...
I'm up to just about anywhere......

Elk Rapids? It's a nice shore run for Salty Dog and me, Petep won't have to come down as far into Lake Michigan, it sounds like SBW1 makes his way up that direction, and I'm sure the harbormaster (harbormistress in this case) will accomodate us with reservations.

Charlevoix Municipal is not good as they just tore out all of the old docks and hope to be functioning mid to late June with no shore facilities until end of summer. Northwest in Charlevoix is an option, as is the Boyne City facility. Both of those options are about double the normal nightly rate, as is Bay Harbor. I think all three will take reservations.

One thing for sure, Miss T will be cruising north in July, eventually ending up at Mackinaw Island and possibly Drummond Island. If we don't put a group event together, we should at least keep each other posted on our cruising schedules so we can wave to each other on the water or share a docktail or two at port.

Sounds like the "list" is getting shorter huh? FrankFort, Elk Rapids, maybe... hey Jeff, so they started the harbor project in downtown Charlevoix - good, but what I heard last year is that they will not really net out many more wells. I hear the politicians were designing this project and NOT the harbormaster or boaters. Too bad because the muni-there is a beautiful spot-just hard to get a dock. We have not been in either Frankfort or Elk Rapids so we would be up for going!

Frankfort will be a hard run for us on the Southern end but Jacobson's is a great marina and Frankfort a nice town as well.
Figures to be about 260 miles from home port.
Count us in if the timing works out.

elk rapids

Ok well Elk Rapids is a great Marina, The Harbor mistress Cheryl Graduated from the same School as I , so we have a lil in common. It's a long run for SBW1, but also a premier site for a great gathering. The town is qauint and quiet and offers a few nice amenities. I'm sure I could contact the Harbor Mistress and see what she could do for us. They also have a great area a nd pavilian for a barbeque.

Lets get something together

Elk Rapids would be easy for us depending when in July you all decide to get together. We may go to Canada and will be in northern Lake Michigan for sure in July. The last time we were in Elk Rapids there were lots of slip available. We just showed up and got in without any problems. It's a very nice marina and the town is an easy walk. SBW

You are correct, Petep, no real gain in the number of boats accomodated. The only difference is everyone will have their own slip as opposed to "double stacking" boats on one dock. While it required a lot of shore power cables, we enjoyed being the second boat with our stern facing Round Lake. What a beautiful view from our "back porch." Now the slips will run parallel to shore off of finger piers, so no more panoramic views of Round Lake.

Elk Rapids is a great choice. Like SBW1, I plan to be up that way on our way to the top of the lake. Late July would work best for us.

We can't wait to get back on the water.

Agreement

I agree with Gervie, Elk Rapids is a great choice to have a Wonderful Sea Ray gathering. I'm thinking maybe the 3rd weekend in July The 20th or something like that.

I will check with the Harbor Mistress to see if she has anything else going on that weekend or near that weekend that would Hinder everyones fun..

Elk Rapids would be a fun place, realizing that we will never get one place that is best for everyone. Can’t remember when Harbor Days is there but need to avoid that week in my opinion.

My wife and I have not made our summer plans yet, usually sit down in Jan/Feb and plan the summer – at least in generalities. I know we will be around Traverse Bay in spring for sure and most likely the fall again this year, mid summer don’t know but not that far of a run for us. July in Elk Rapids is not a bad thing at all.

We are still thinking about trips south, down to your area of the Lake SBW/Gervie.

Regardless if everyone make the gathering, let try and keep each other posted on our trips and hook up when we can.

Boltman, thanks for checking with the harbor, please keep us posted.

Elk Rapids for july 20th-July 22nd

People I have spoken to our great Harbor Mistress of Elk Rapids, to concurr with her about July 20th-22nd. She tells me that there is a local Poker Run that weekend of about 20 boats, and there shouldn't be a problem with reserving us some slips. We need to make reservations of these slips on May 15th that's as soon as we can do this. She will need each Boats information as always and a credit card for the reservation as well. I have all the info she needs, I can post it as well.

So how does that sound....Dates ok?

Weather permitting, sounds good. SBW

Just have to make sure this doesn't conflict with my SR Dealers Cruise (dates not yet Published). But, sounds like fun! I know that this site has many "lurkers" also..don't be shy.. join in on this one!

I figured that with the number of people that have viewed this topic there are many who just have not "chimed-in", those are what I call lurkers-We need the lurkers to just say "Hey, I'm going to run my SeaRay to Elk Rapids this Summer!

I have put the dates on my calendar and in the scheduler of my cell phone.
Still doing some work on my new/old boat and will have to see what the spring brings.
Still have to work out a few of the bugs that are sometimes associated with a repo'd boat.
That said I may be a late entry.
Hoping to make it!
