Keowee for Labor Day

Are you guys going to take the trouble to haul all the way out here and go back home the same day - or are some of you going to try to find a hotel in Seneca, or sleep on the hook, or what?

I'm also thinking it might be a good idea to exchange info so we can make sure that we can contact each other that weekend but I'm leery of posting it publicly on a worldwide website. What if everyone PMs me info then I could make a list and privately email it back to each of us?

Just an idea...... let me know what you think.

Good idea Gerald. PMed ya info.

Looking to travel back same day. I am thinking its less than 2 hours travel time for us one way. Will know tomorrow when I make the trip by truck.

Gerald,

PMed you the info.

Also may want to set a place and time to try and meet on Saturday. If I make it, it will probably only be for the day. Still working on it.

Make sure someone gets a picture of Wes next to some hot chick...

Now where did we put that pictures of your 4 Girls friends Gary? I'm sure Turtle could photoshop Wesley into it.:smt043:lol:

Checked out Keowee Marina today. Gary I saw a 340 at the end of C dock and thought it might have been yours. Walked down to it, but nobody was around. I could not remember what your slip number was. Maybe next time I'll remember to write your slip number down.:smt021 What is the about having to have a membership to get a beer at the tiki hut???

Wesley-The marina looks like it is the place to use. If we make it over I plan on using the marina ramp.

Thanks guys for the heads up about the marina.

Gerald - Do we have a meeting place for Saturday?

The family and I also made it out to Keowee today. We were on the north side and checked out Mile Creek. Looks like a very nice place to launch the SR. They have three ramps and a dock. All looked very organized while we were there. Thanks a bunch Gerald for the info. It will take us almost 2 hours exactly. Very easy drive for us as well. I bent down and felt how warm the water was.....holy cow its like bath water. Looking forward to getting out in that open water. We are going to leave around 8am so we can be on the lake by 10am. This way we can explore the lake before we meet up with you guys.

Sorry we missed you, I am one dock over about half way down on the right, Dock D Slip 10, The 340 that is on C dock is is "Lets Ride Clyde" great guy. The Tiki Hut is private club so they can serve alchohol on Sunday. They had some problems so they are very careful about the membership thing. Nice thing is, as a dock tennant you get a free membership.

Gary

Gary,

Is "D" dock a short uncovered dock between "C" and the office? I thought I saw a couple SeaRays on it. We walked around after dinner before we headed back to the mountains. Only dock we went down was "C".

I figured it was something like that. You have got to love some of the crazy laws we have.:smt021

D dock is the one between C and the Office, We have about 8 Sea Ray's on the dock. And there is a 41 foot Aft Cabin Marinett on the end.

Yep Crazy laws

Brian, glad to see you found Mile Creek - yes it's a nice place. When you launch, if you'll look straight across the bay to the south you'll see a little general/fishing store with a ramp. That's Gap Hill Landing where I'll be putting in. They have fuel so you can fuel there if you don't want to haul your boat with the extra weight of a full tank. However it's $4.38/gal.

Chuck brought up the question for a meeting place on Saturday. I have no idea how we could figure that out - it looks like half of us may be putting in midlake and half down south at Keoweee Marina. Do we want to meet and run together for awhile; or set up a "base camp" area and go out and back from there, or a combination of the two, or what?

Just as an intial idea (that I'm sure will be changed) to start the brainstorming: possibly we could meet up Saturday morning at or near Keowee Marina and one end of the lake, then run together north for awhile exploring the lake up to the waterfall which is basically midlake slightly north of Mile Creek, then if some want to hang around and watch the show at the falls, we could base camp there and groups could continue north to explore the whole lake at leisure, and use the waterfall midlake for a place to meet back up if we choose to split up. It looks like most of us will have VHF so that will be a huge help I'm sure.

I'm game for anything so it doesn't matter to me.

Gerald, sounds like a great idea. This will be our first time as well as many others, so that would allow us to actually explore the lake.

Brian - I plan to fill up just before I put in the lake. What is this $3.39 Regular gas price thing. I told Judy we need to dump the expensive $3.79 Regular gas from her VW Bug so we could put some of this cheap gas in it.:smt043:lol: I could not believe is was so cheap.

Gerald - I'm game for what ever. I think if I make it over it may just be me, or maybe me and my daughter & son-in-law. I don't think Judy is going to make it.

Gerald, Whats the current boat count? I have lost track. Most everyone will meet up on Sunday right? Provided we make it, we will be staying overnight on the boat one maybe two nights, but arrive Sat. Sounds like a good plan you have started though.

I've got the following who PM'd me info so far and so I consider confirmed:

First Born
Ringy Dinghy
chuck1
brian2001ss
(me)GJarrett

So we're up to five vessels so far

It would be great to get another boat to overnight on the hook with so I hope you make it. Speaking of which.... Gary would you be up for joining a group overnight on the hook or are you a docksitter?

We would be on the hook as I dont think we need the hatch AC right? What is the travel time from Seneca to the marina landing. I will punch in the other and get an official total travel time for us. Sat would be our definate hook night.

Great! Now if the boy with the big boat wouldn't be embarrassed to be seen beside us smaller folk, we might get a decent raftup for Saturday nite *hint* :smt001 Chuck as I recall your boat has a full camper canvass and is suitable for overnighting too, isn't it? Or was that Wes whose Sea Ray is set up like that? I cannot remember.

Nah you won't need AC; night temps will be in the high 60s ~ low 70s. Maybe as high as mid 70s if we get a heat wave. Two weeks ago it was mid 70s when the admiral and I retired but sometime in the middle of the night it dropped below 70 and I had to pull a light blanket over us - perfect sleeping weather.

The marina is in Seneca so travel time is zero. It's on the east side of town so you'll arrive at the marina sooner than if you continued on to downtown or the main area of Seneca. Mapquest to 156 Keoweee Marina Dr Seneca 29678 and that should work.

Yep, "Miss Judy" is setup for camping. The joke was I was turning her into a cruiser. Can I bring my 1000W Honda generator to plug the shore power into.(Just kidding guys) Since it looks like I may be by myself the overnighting may be an options. When Judy and girls are with me we don't get to sleep on the boat we have to stay at a hotel/condo/cabin.

That's good to hear.... hopefully you can join us overnight.

I haven't heard from Mike (islandhopper00) since the first page of the thread.... I guess he's going to FL that weekend.
