The Admiral and I will out on Keowee during the Labor Day weekend. She might have to attend other plans for one of the days but as of now I plan to be on the water all three days. If there's any interest I'd love to see some Sea Rays out there and meet some of you guys.

We'll splash in at Gap Hill Landing and mostly stay in the mid-lake area and sleep on the hook at the waterfall, but I will be all over the lake sooner or later as the weekend progresses.

Anyone else interested?

Labor day we usually head up to high rock but it looks like this year may open up. I will let you know once I get all the details worked out.

Wesley

Weather permitting, we will be on the boat somewhere and talked about trailering up to that area. Have not been since July last year and after seeing the pics last week, realized we missed the upstate and a trip up would be nice. Would be great to meet some more CSR people.

Sure sounds like a great idea. I'll have to see if there is any way we can make.:smt100 Maybe Sunday or Monday??? MS Judy needs a trip this year. We have not even pulled here out of the lake this year.:smt089 Where could we meet?

We do hope to see some of you. Chuck - the Admiral has already contacted many of our church friends and her work friends and told them we would "base" Sunday at Gap Hill which is south a few hundred yards across the water from Mile Creek on the east side right in the middle of the lake. I anticipate spending much of Sunday in that area and ferrying our friends back and forth to the waterfall from there. One of them has a "party barge" which is basically a HUGE 8-10 person tube that we may load up and tug to the waterfall.

As for Saturday I have no plans except to be on the lake; Monday I'll probably will have had enough and pull out in the early afternoon shortly after lunchtime.

Gerald,
Cool, looks like if I put in at Cane Creek Access on the South West side of the lake it is about a 13+- Mile run up to the Gap Hill area. Have you ever used or been by the Cane Creek Access area? It looks like it would be the closest for us coming over on US76 from GA.

My best hope is probably Saturday.

Wesley were would you put in at? It sure would be cool seeing you all again.

Now we just have to get Jim to drop in with some drinks like he did for the big boat up north:lol: Just kidding Jim.

I am still trying to work out the details, like I said we head to High Rock each year for labor day weekend but this year may work out. We do our Fantasy Football draft each year on Sunday night during labor day weekend so that would mean if I can get out of High Rock it would only be for the day on Saturday.

It would be great to make this happen. Like I said, I'll be there Saturday too so that works for me.

I haven't put in at Cane Creek because it's on the wrong side of the lake for me. However, we met up with a lot of friends that camped at South Cove Park not far from there and I've used the ramp there. Do NOT use South Cove; it is unprotected and inevitably some redneck yahoo will blast by 50 yds away while you are trying to get your boat back up on the trailer and have his wake throw your boat around. I have a gash on my hull from that and one of our friends trying to trailer his jetski ended up with a huge gouge in his. Not to mention it took forever to get on the trailer just waiting for a break in the wakes long enough to give us time to do it.

Cane Creek may be better. And you can't lose simply going to the Marina to put in, but that would be a few more miles into town to get there. Just don't think about using South Cove is all I can say.

If we scheduled Saturday that would still give enough time for those that wanted to hang around and also see Jocassee (if the ramp can be used) on Sunday or Monday. This could work out well!

EDIT: I just looked at a map and by the time you'd drive up off Hwy 123/76 to go to Cane Creek, you could stay straight on the hwy into Seneca and be at the Keowee Marina. I'd simply head to the marina and not take a chance. You will have to pay something like a $7 ramp fee though, but that will be the cheapest thing about the trip LOL.

Guys we are in for the trip that weekend. We were planning Monday, but we are open to all weekend. My wife,12 year old daughter, and myself would love to meet some of the board members. I posted a thread on what would be the best ramp for us if we are comming from the north east end of the Lake. I will probibly take hw11 all the way and then figure out were to launch. I even thought about making the trip this Sunday with truck only to check it out. What would it cost me to put the boat on the Lake?

Lets do this guys!!

Brain,
After reading the comments from Gerald about the south west ramps and the Marina I was wondering if it would be worth a drive over myself to check them out.

Gerald,
Do you know if the Marina has a place you can park your truck and trailer for the day? I've run into that issue before. Great launch/ramp but no place to park your rig.

Man, we have a friend that lives 5 mins from Keowee. Can't do it for Labor day-we've already shored up plans for SML for the weekend before(have to work the Labor day Sat). However, I am thinking about Mem. day 09 and Keowee as a destination. We will see how that works out.

If anyone is gonna be at SML the weekend BEFORE Labor day and wants to hook up/party-post up. Jolie and I are always up for meeting new peeps.

Hi guys, sorry we'll miss you that weekend. We'll be camping and boating down on Lake Murray that weekend.

Chuck and Wesley, I would just use Lake Keowee Marina to launch. That would be the closest for both of you, and that is where we launch when we go to Keowee. There's usually plenty of parking (you may have to park in the large grass area when the gravel parking lot fills up). It is a longer run by boat up to the the northern half of the lake where many people like to hang out, but I'd rather drive by boat than truck anyday.

Here's a ramp tip for you at Lake Keowee marina: There are two launch ramps next to each other that will be on your left. Try to use the second ramp. The first one on your left is usable, but it is shorter and much steeper than the second ramp. I'll launch from either one, but I try to use the second one to load. I've had issues loading at the first one.

Gerald,
If we pull this get together for Saturday, where would be a good meeting place? What time would everybody want to try and meet up. It sounds like it is going to be a 2 hour+- haul for the people that are trying to make it a one day trip like me.

Bill,
Sorry to hear you can't make it. Have fun on Murray. (Isn't that the lake SeaRide (Charley) is on??) Maybe next time. I still can't commit to the Keowee trip 100%, but I'm doing everything I can do to make it.
Thanks for the tip about the ramps and the parking situation.
Chuck
