Inspection today 11-14-07 Wish me Luck

Ok, so I have talked to the surveyor. There is nothing major other than what we already knew. wheeeew.
Three things he mentioned:
Privacy curtain in forward berth has a small "pull" that has come unglued?
Batteries are dead and charger did not work - I think it's a main breaker(but we'll see)
Aft Port Oval porthole window showed evidence of a small leak.

So I pick up the report at 3PM and will speed through downtown Ballard to my bank.............Since it's not a done, done deal yet of course I have a reserved excitement but it sounds good.

(for those not aware of the Seattle area Ballard is the small typically Norwegian neighborhood notorious for the Deadliest Catch boats. The joke is that the old Scandinavians drive through town with their blinkers on, run red lights and they’ll leave their seatbelts hanging out, so it’s kind of like running the gauntlet. )

Well they are boat captians and boats don't have, blinkers, or seatbelts and there are not any stop lights on the water I've ever seen so makes sense

Where do we sign up to get a ride on your new boat the biggest thing I've been on moving is my boat a 240SD I'd love to take a ride on some of the bigger SeaRays

Great news, congratulations!

Speeding through Ballard is a funny phase in itself. I've heard of the police giving tickets to sign posts for going too fast.

Getting through Ballard quickly is an oxymoron in itself!! That's pretty funny! Hopefully it will all go well and you'll have the keys this afternoon! Good luck and fire up that riding polisher so you can get her all shined up for your first trip out!

Ok Todd! good news,

Hope that the final stage goes ok also!!

I watch your post.

Peter

Hey Todd.........are you

I've been passing e-mails, forms, bills of sale via e-mail for the last 30 minutes, leaving to go pick up the survey now and I'll have my laptop....to let you know when to crack a beer for me.

ok......well the bank has all the paperwork they said they needed last week .........
accept for pictures of the boat out of the water. That would have been good to know when they asked for the survey......anyway I'll print off the ones you've seen here and my dealer is kind enough to tale a few outside shots out of the water and e-mail them to me so I can drop them off. Everything else is done................except handing the owner the check.........wheeew......I'm exhausted

Cheers...and congrats!
Seems like a lot of work you put into this. It will make all that much sweeter on the maiden voyage!

Batteries and charger dead?

I wonder how you managed to pull off a seatrial. Did you jump the batteries?

I think now we know what killed the outdrive -> doesn't the mercathodes system need some juice inorder to do it's job?

Now. . .there is probably not a "single breaker" that is busted. . . .but the batteries are probably now shot (ain't cheap). But worst case is you buy a bunch of electrical bits plus batteries for the boat. One or Two boat units. . . tops.

Congrats!

Now the real spending begins. . . .

I've never sea~trialed this boat. I've test driven other's I'm not worried about that. Once the O/D's replaced we'll be good.

Yes it does and yes that's why the outdrive looks the way it does.

Batteries are Deep cycle 27 Interstates 1 1/2 month Old. They'll be recharged and should be fine. My guess is a breaker is either turned off or bad. Worse case scenario, I'll buy a new charger
Congrats!

Now the real spending begins. . . .
.....yeah I know

Thanks for everyone's interest and support. Tomorrow, I'll update again.

Todd, I don't recall anyone so excited about buying a boat since... well, since I got mine after looking for a year...

Fair winds and following seas... :smt038

Anyway, glad to know you are really close to spending some boat bucks on stuff... Be glad to point out really expensive stuff even if you don't need it...

I'll toast you a beer tomorrow at our Army/Navy get together. Got over 200 coming to the sports bar on base at Bremerton. Fun starts at 0730 and runs till Navy kicks Army butt once more and we all toast to next year...

Todd,

I am very excited for you. I remember when I bought my sundancer I could not sleep until it was in my driveway!

Sounds like you are in the home stretch.....

Mark

Congratulations! Now where is the pictures (Grin)

Wait, no seatrial?

But didn't you say you did a compression test on the engine? Can you do that without running the engine?

BTW: I didn't think the purpose of SeaTrial was a "joy ride". Many would make you think so -> because they don't want you to "joy ride" the boat. The purpose of seatrial is to ensure that the engine runs, can make full RPM, and doesn't overheat. A surveyor isn't interested in tooling around in the boat any longer than necessary to determine the mechanical condition of the boat.

When I had my SeaTrial, I definately did not get any real idea regarding the basic sea worthiness or handling of the boat. Why not? Because the seatrial was done on a river where run room and waves was limited. We got the engines up to temperature. . . we ran at full throttle but after one or two minutes W.O.T. we were LITERALLY out of water.

In the end, buying my boat was a rather large gamble. Ok. . .the gamble did pay off; as after 100 hours I am very happy with the handling of the boat. I mitigated my risks by buying used (less cash on the table). Buying over again, I would condition the sale on a 3 hour joyride PLUS a seatrial with surveyor. This means my next boat will probably also be used.

Thanks Mark, Yes once we complete the paperwork, it will stay at the dealer for a couple weeks getting the O/D replaced, FWC and possibly heat.

Congratulations Todd. You have completed the cirlce. You are no longer boatless in Seattle!

Have fun
Thanks Paul......once I complete it all and I know it's ABSOLUTELY I'll edit my Sig Pic and tag line.

That sounds like fun. I'll be honored to know you'll be in front of our Nation's finest, raising a Glass to me. Thank them for their service, back from me and ~GO NAVY~. (My Dad was on the Enterprise)
I'll be heading down after I get this done later today to Tacoma. My son's high school (Bothell) is in the State 4A Championship football game. I coached all those guys since they were 8, now My brother is on the HS coaching staff.

Congrats. Todd. Start detailing and buffing.
no doubt. She deserves some TLC for sure. I think we're rescuing that great dog down the street that was chained to a post in the middle of the yard. :smt009
