Well today the boat we have a pending purchase on is going into the shop and getting inspected.
They will sling it out, perform and compression and leak down test and inspect the O/D.
If all checks out, we'll complete the deal and leave it there to get new risers and manifolds, FWC, heat and complete service on both engine and outdrive.

So Hopefully the SeaRay God's shine down on us and we get a big

Great news, Todd!

Does the inspection include a hull and major systems survey? The first boat we looked at had wet coring around the foredeck hatch that the surveyor caught. Would have been a $$$ repair, and I didn't spot it when I looked the boat over.

Fingers are firmly crossed!
Jeff

Best of luck with it Todd. Where is the work getting done?

I notice you told Sundancer it is fine to run with seawater cooling in the Islands, but you are adding closed cooling to yours. :smt017

Well I will be looking at it and I know the Service manager real well to inpsect some things he said are "typical" trouble spots to look for.
I'm not hiring a complete survey, unless there is evidence to look further.

Yes, I said that for only a two week trip he shouldn't need FWC. Because 90% we're in Saltwater I want FWC.

Good luck, I am sure everything will check out just fine!

Best of luck!!! Hope all goes well.

Thanks guys
I just stopped by the dealer (Lake Union Searay) and the boat is due to arrive after noon and get pulled around 2. So I won't get to see it out of the water until tomorrow.

I'm like a kid before his b-day

Ok Todd,

We are waiting to hear how it went. Are you a proud new owner?

Yesterday the owner did not drop the key off so that Lake Union Searay could go get it. No big deal, but they managed to go over there, hotwire it and get her back accross the lake late yesterday afternoon. I will stop by in about 3 hours and take some pictures out of the water and take a look at the hull, while they remove the O/D and perform the compression and leak-down test.
I'll post the pictures and give everyone the update in as soon as I'm done looking.

Thanks for the interest and camaraderie guys!

so far I'm hearing the O/D is shot. On my way to look now.................
pictures to come.........

Todd,

What are the details on the drive? Be careful here. Also, I have followed the posts regarding your quest for this boat, but never saw how she was equipped or what drivetrain she has.

Keeping my fingers crossed for ya.

It's a Bravo III. The Props are fine. Hull looks good. Dealer figures the batteries went dead, Mercathode fell asleep with no juice in a "working lake"(lots of electrical current) and she say and rotted.
So we're on the quest for a local guy who has a warehouse of crated drives from buying out any clearance drives and engines from Merc or Merc Dealers.

He apparently has 300+ drives of different sorts.

We'll see what the owner wants to do, but this is exactly what I was fearing.
A new drive and transom plate installed new from Merc I'm estimated from the dealer at $10k.

Todd, hang in there buddy! Remember what Frank said. This guy knows he is not selling a diamond. He wants out. Bolting on a new outdrive is a piece of cake, IF the gimbal assembly is all OK. It may need new bellow, not much sense in replacing the outdrive and having old bellows. Also, the trim indicator wires are probably getting pretty old and ready to fail, even if they have not yet. While things are taken apart is a good time to replace them.

Your bargaining position just got stronger, as I see it, as long as the hull and the rest of the mechanicals are OK. This guy, if he has a brain, is not going to want to sit on a boat he does not use that has a known bad outdrive.

Of course, this is a lot of conjecture until you really see what they are seeing.

Dave
