Last year for about $285 you got:
-engine oil+filter
-gear oil
-fuel filter
-winterize
All in one package.

This year my general manager has taken the gear oil change out of the package and is charging for just a gear oil change:
ALPHA-$122.30
BRAVO-$135.50

I fought tooth and nail against these prices based upon the fact that they are outrageous and I wont sell any.

He would not bugde saying this is the only way to make money off of it with the prices of oil. We went over the pricing of it together and each time my estimate came out $40 lower than his.

Either way the prices are set and I cannot do anything about it but inform customers to do it themselves for about $80 less.

I was just wondering what your marinas are charging for this service or if its included in a package how much that might be?

Thanks for your replys,
Chris

Last year I had engine oil, filters, fuel filters changed. The drives were pulled alignment checked, propshafts greased, drive oil changed and inspection of bellows etc. Total for both engines and drives w/tax $768.33.

Don't do that and keep your job. I'm researching what My dealer charges and will report back.

What you can do that makes me happy when I get my boat back is make sure the little things are done. Boat's clean, my bilge is how I left it, Spotless, my seats were protected and I don't see size 14 footprints all over the boat.

IT's the go the extra mile stuff that I really appreciate when my dealer is working on my boat and I typically will buy pizza for the crew for lunch in appreciation.

No My boat's not brand new or super fancy, but I like to keep it clean and it's a lot of money to me. I like to keep it in ship shape condition, so when I spend money on service I expect it to be performed professionally.

Running & fogging engine
Change the water/fuel separator filter
Drain & fill outdrive gear lube
Grease all zerk fittings
Add fuel stabilizer
Change oil & filter
Disconnect batteries

$199.00

Now thats a deal^^^

When I was actually wrenching I always made sure to clean up my paw prints, and take my shoes off if the boat was immaculate. But I get people comming from other marinas saying that they had oil in the bildge, and it was from a careless tech spilling and not cleaning it up.

I completely agree, you can lose customers very quick that way. You also always have to be upfront with everything, found out that goes a LONG ways

Luckily I do all of this myself.... so $122 for an Alpha gear oil change. I think that is a bit high as well - Even if I say it takes 30 mins that is high...

Shop labor estimate $80 an hour so $40 for 30 mins
2 quarts for gear oil (retail) - 2x$12 = 24
washers - 2.00

So I get $66 and that's being generous with the 30 mins... I sometimes let mine drain longer than 10 mins but don't really get much more oil out. If I do this all myself I get the following:

Gear oil = 2 x $24.00 = $48.00
Engine oil = 10 quarts * 4 = $40.00
Filter = 2 x 6 = $12.00
fuel filter = 2 x 10 = $20.00

I don't winterize since I do some boating all year and leave the heater on in the bilge the rest of the time. So my total is $120 at full retail prices for 2 engines.... I'll go my route

You can come change my oil for $285... Heck... I'll even buy you a plane ticket if you'll do it for $285... and put you up in a great place.

Did Frank just crack a joke? I think he did. And a pretty good one too.

I forget what I paid but I can tell you it was more than $285. I'm in a DIY yard again and I'm going to try most of it myself this year. So you may find me asking questions very soon.

my place will run pink crap thru my engine and i think spray some fogging mist into my carb for $185 per engine. they'll change my oil & filter for $79 per engine too. same for my genny, so that makes for more than $800 with tax. oh, and they'll take my three batteries and store them in an outdoor shed for $55 each. they'll also put them back in for me in the spring, all nice and charged up. ooh, who do i make the check out to??

NOT!

$385 for everything listed, including their winterization.

^Thats reasonable to me, thats what I was telling my GM it should be around for everything.

Just to clarify, $285 was LAST years prices and included a gear oil change.

This year its $328 for a V8 small/big block and does not include gear oil change, if you were to want a gear oil change as well, total bill would around $450 before shop supplies and taxes.

something I'm hoping to avoid this year by temporarily winterizing during the week then keep using over the weekend.

I have no idea, but I will let you know soon. This first oil change will probably be done by the marina, as I plan on having something like the, (I believe it is called the) "Reverso system" installed. But thus far they have indicated to me around 4 hours labor plus parts and oil for the two engines and generator. There labor is $80.00 per hour
