How much does your marina charge?

My local MM dealership is hurting. From what I can tell they are trying to remain profitable. So, the deals are not as good as last year on some of the boats and the service and parts prices are going up.

I have no idea, but I will let you know soon. This first oil change will probably be done by the marina, as I plan on having something like the, (I believe it is called the) "Reverso system" installed. But thus far they have indicated to me around 4 hours labor plus parts and oil for the two engines and generator. There labor is $80.00 per hour

Which Marina are you using?

Now thats a deal^^^

When I was actually wrenching I always made sure to clean up my paw prints, and take my shoes off if the boat was immaculate. But I get people comming from other marinas saying that they had oil in the bildge, and it was from a careless tech spilling and not cleaning it up.

I completely agree, you can lose customers very quick that way. You also always have to be upfront with everything, found out that goes a LONG ways

"I always made sure to clean up my paw prints, and take my shoes off if the boat was immaculate."

Wow, I am impressed. Our carpets are usually filthy after the tech works in the engine compartment. We try to remember to pull them prior now as they are brand new.

My local SR dealer's maintenance dept called me the other day saying that my boat is due for service. I told them that it was in there in Jan for new manifolds, tune-ups, running gear paint... They said it was due for an oil change. I 'splained that I do my own routine maintenance, but that I was disappointed with the paint stripping off within two months. They were anxious to get off of the phone - mission accomlished.

good move!!! even if it's not true, great way to get rid of "telemarketers."

Last year for about $285 you got:
-engine oil+filter
-gear oil
-fuel filter
-winterize
All in one package.

This year my general manager has taken the gear oil change out of the package and is charging for just a gear oil change:
ALPHA-$122.30
BRAVO-$135.50

I fought tooth and nail against these prices based upon the fact that they are outrageous and I wont sell any.

He would not bugde saying this is the only way to make money off of it with the prices of oil. We went over the pricing of it together and each time my estimate came out $40 lower than his.

Either way the prices are set and I cannot do anything about it but inform customers to do it themselves for about $80 less.

I was just wondering what your marinas are charging for this service or if its included in a package how much that might be?

Thanks for your replys,
Chris
Chris, Just wondering? Are you fired yet??

Actually No, I just got a raise yesterday:smt038

I don't see why I would be, every customer that comes in here says the same thing about the pricing, and right infront of the dealership's(s) owner, mind you we are an off-shore dealership.

It not at a complete loss for us, because I still take in about $40 for the pump and 2qts of G+ if they don't have us do it.

Its mainly just the prices for a gear lube change, everything else is somewhat reasonable to competiting marinas.

Even though prices have gone up, I still have 30 boats in service for winterizing...and the rush hasn't started yet.

But its been in the 30's at night the last 2 weeks so I would think soon.

600 dollars to winterize twin 8 cylinder gas inboards, does not include the oil change. Good grief, what is involved in winterizing 350 Horz. v drives?:smt021

$1600 to do the following:

- haul, block, and relaunch in the spring
- winterize both 4.3s
- winterize AC unit
- winterize head and holding tank
- winterize fresh water system
- winterize generator
- pressure wash bottom and outdrives
- remove, store, and replace 3 batteries
- indoor storage for the winter

Engine oil changes are $100 each.

Seems like a fair deal to me...

I had the boat back at MM for several warrenty issuses; 2 stress cracks in the hull, stress cracks around one clete, and a stress cracked gauge. I told them to go ahead with the yearly mainaintance since it was in the shop and end of the year.
oil change and filter
fuel filter and separater
drive oil change
impellor change
winterize engine and fresh water system
Total $780
I about fell over as I have always done it myself for about $150-200
This will be my last.

You guys haven't lived yet.

MarineMax of Fort Myers charges the following. (btw, we don't winterize here for the obvious reason that we boat year around)

Oil change, filter and outdrive lube change $330.00

100 hour service. oil change, filter, outdrive service, $1,300.

BTW, those prices are for each engine.

The stupid part is that people pay these kind of prices.

In these "rough" times, services calls are $125 to talk to you on the phone for more than 10 minutes.

This is the quote my dealer gave me for a 4.3. Since it's a new boat I'll let them do the first oil change, in case there are any issues.

>> A complete I/O winterization with antifreeze is $269.00.
>> This includes greasing the steering cable, gimbal zerks,
>> checking the belt tension and power steering fluid, changing
>> lower unit oil and engine oil (up to 5 quarts), winterize
>> engine with antifreeze, fuel stabilizer, fogging oil,
>> environmental waste charges.

Here is a price for you.
Indoor storage all winter, temp controlled.

Free.

Turns out my wife does have a few family members who have their s**t together. They offered to store it for us and refused to take a cent for it:thumbsup:

The storage rates were not going to break me or anything but this is a pretty sweet deal, Plus I can get in to work on her and get the interior project started and all that goodness

I will definitely be doing everything myself. Seems senseless to be paying this kind of $ for maintenance... maybe I just see it this way because I work on my corvette and have rebuilt an engine so it comes easy to me... :smt101

I'm curious. If you do your own maintenance on an engine or drives that are under factory warranty and later something goes wrong. Will it still be covered? It seems you might be giving them an excuse to deny a claim. Maybe I'm being overly cautious.

Brian, I had the marina do just about everything the first year we had the boat as I still had warranty coverage. A do-it-yourself job could lead to a voided warranty so be careful here. I had just spent alot of money on the boat and I didn't want the potential for a dispute to arise from a "who did what and how was it done" conversation. I always suggest to my friends that they let the marina do the main work when the boat is new and under warranty, but be prepared to do it over yourself afterwards. The standard Searay warranty lists 16 items for when warranty coverages will not apply. One of the items states that the warranty does not apply to a failure resulting from a "repair" made by a non-authorized dealer. Doesn't say that you have to have a dealer winterize the boat in order for the overage to remain in effect however. Repairs are not the same as maintenance.

Routine service is not all that difficult and the dealers realize that. The key is to not get in over your head. If you've never serviced an outdrive before, I'd think twice about the complex things like servicing a Bravo III until the warranty is gone and you've learned what you need to.

The truth of the matter is that most dealers love owners who do maintenance. Their boats are well maintained, cleaner and easier to work on than one that has been neglected or that the engine hatch stays closed until the engine won't start.
