Had your Magma Newport for a while? What do you think about it now?

THAT'S THE GRILL!!!!

I want one...

Magma grills are all radiant heating for cooking... might as well use a microwave.

I agree!!! As a BBQ fanatic and hobbyist I would love to cook on that one. I have an infrared area on my 52" grill at home and it's great for searing meat (especially blackened Ahi).

I will be ordering one of these...thanks for the link! :smt038

You guys are going to send me a fruit basket for the great tip.

BTW . . . I hate the taste of a new grill. Go out and buy some sausage links, cheap pork chops, 70% hamburger and cook up a bunch of stuff. Cook about 4 meals worth of cheap meat. Throw it all away when you are done cooking. This grill and all gas grills need some seasoning.

One great technology on your new grill is the way they grates are shaped. V . The V grates keep the seasons and food product juices close to the food. NICE!

Better yet... I'll just send you a box with all the cheap meat used for seasoning it...

I've been using this Solair infrared grill here at home for about a month. Takes a little getting used to but I do believe I found the perfect grill for me... The infrared element is propane powered and cooks tuna and steaks perfectly... The only grill I've had that can sear tuna such that it's still purple on the inside (as it should be). Looks a little dorky sitting on the stove in the kitchen so I need to take it on down to the boat. I'm going to get an infrared insert for the range in my kitchen... I'm in love... too bad I'm on a diet.

Magmas suck.

Good thread and thanks all for sharing the info. I'm thinking about a Magma for our 25' BR for this season. I know it will get used a lot. I just don't want to spend + $400 for a boat grill.

The Webber is nice too, but the attraction of the Magma is that it's mountable and out of the way while it's in use. I don't have a ton of room.

You can buy a $50 microwave and the food will taste about the same.

Wonderful. :smt009

How the heck do they justify that enormous price tag on those things?

I'll keep shopping and researching.

I'll admit I'm a picky eater... As some have said, they like Magma grills... but they probably like Boca Burgers as well....

Magmas suck.

Of course, now that my new Magma Monterey arrived...

Oh well, I'm not that picky of an eater. Although I wouldn't eat boiled lunch meat either...

Pretty harsh comments on the Magma's. I actually cooked a couple porterhouse steaks from Sam's club on sunday with my Newport and it did pretty good in windy conditions. Had a decent crust and nice pink center. My trick for grills like this is to not let the steaks warm up before cooking this way the center will remain nice and pink and give you a chance to get a nice crust. It was decent for this and more than adequate for kabob's, bratts and burgers.

Keep me posted. I may still get one. I'm not looking for gormet food on the boat either...but I'm not looking the described "microwave" effect.

Ok... maybe saying "Magmas suck" was harsh...

How about "Magma is the Bayliner of boat grills"?

How did you end up mounting it? I'll probably try mine out this weekend on the aft railing and see how I like it.

I use the rail mounts and mount it on the bow when in use. I'd prefer to cook in the cockpit but haven't wanted to install a new holder in my decking. Mine won't attach to the transom rail.

Anyone have a preference to the Kettle or Gourmet Series?

Why?

I'm leaning Kettle as space for storage is an issue.
