CSR Northeast Flotilla 2016

I've found our sweet spot is around 22/23 kts
Dean, we should be heading through the sound early on 7/30. I think you may cruise faster than me though, what speed do you like to cruise at?

We have to be back on 8/8 so we will either have to leave on 8/6, or early morning of 8/7.

23kts? Are you crazy man? That's like ludicrous speed in a Tesla for bridge boats.

ps. (If all goes well) we will be in the sound early am 7/30 also.

Soo immediately less then 3weeks away!! But no arrangements are made. You guys must be having a good season so far.
How about food our feast?
I'll start
I'll bring some flank steaks and throw them an the bbq right before dinner. Maybe cold but cut nice and thin there still very tasty.

Ois anybody else from the south shore planning on leaving Friday morning? My plan is to wake up very early probably just before sunrise run on plane to the first bridge on the east end of the gsb then hull speed all the way to the locks at Shinnecock then on plane the ready of the way. Would love some local knowledge on moriches bay and Tianna bay. Even the comments on active captain are conflicting

Jonathan,
CG station in Moriches Bay shows high tide around 4:20-30 am & pm for that Friday. Paul & I have just started discussing what we may do. Not sure yet.
You may be better off going out FI inlet & coming in Shinnecock inlet.

I am planning to leave Friday morning as well, most likely with Ron and Wendy. Our plan is to run from Jones Inlet to Shinnecock Inlet outside, weather and seas permitting. I hope to leave early morning as well, maybe 7-8am, but depends on the Admiral.

Anyone leaving on Friday from the north shore? Weather depending, would like to leave in the morn

If my Grandaughter is born by then we will be leaving from Huntington. But I will most likely trawl for a few hours early am.

Sounds good, might do the same thing. The wife/daughter might like a break. Lets talk when it gets closer. Early congrats on the grandaughter

Two weeks to go!!! Where's the chatter???

Harold I tried a couple days ago but got nothing! Well a little but really nothing. I guess everybody is busy boating?

With only two weeks away we have to stop snoozing. We have number of outstanding items we need to go over.

1. Folks, please post your table offerings for the feast.
2. We have pretty good idea about the activities in Shelter Isl, what about MV and Hyannis? We talked about a bike tour. Do we want to pick a particular route or do we decide on a spot? I'm almost positive that my crew will do a bike ride from VH to OB. If anyone wants to suggest other routes, we're all ears.
3. I'd like to propose a slightly unique event. How about something like a wine tasting or wine pairing event? We have couple of options on doing it.
A) We make a pool and have dedicated party make the purchase of wines ranging from low-medium-high end.
B) Each boat brings one or two bottles for the event.

Any other ideas?

I'm definetly in for the bike ride but I do need some information. Can I rent a bike? Can I rent a bike with a baby seat? Do I need to reserve a bike in advance? Can you reserve a bike in advance? Cab I rent one of those red motorized miniature things that greg rented? How much?
As for the wine tasting I don't think i will be able to join you on that one paisley needs to be attended to but donna probably will. Let me know how much pp you agree on and I'll get it to you for her.
As for the table offerings I'm going to bbq some flank or skirt steaks a little before dinner and bring that.

Jonathan,

I just started searching for bike options myself. So far I found this: http://www.vineyardbicycles.com/rentals
They have the trailercycle I could use for Danny (attaches to an adult bicycle but lets the kid pedal) and they have the full trailers for kids and baby seats for up to one years old / 35 lbs.

Alex,
So I know how much paper goods to get, if I got the head count correct, we are looking at 44 adults and 24 kids on 22 boats for the feast. Sound right?

(BTW our dog will not be joining us on this trip.)

There are many places to rent bikes so that shouldn't be a problem. The ride from VH to OB is not bad at all, maybe 20min but it is on main roads. There is a bike trail from OB heading to Edgartown that is great becasue the first 1/3rd of the way to EG is on the water and beaches.

We won't be joining on the daily activities becasue I have to work most of the week. I was just off this past week but our plan is to come over to the raft early evening each night you are in MV and hang out till everyone is done and then head back to my slip so Steph and I can leave for work in the morning and we can get the kids to camp. I am only a 10min ride from VH so no big deal. Our plan is to join you in Hyannis for the whole time you are there.

I will confirm the reservation at Tugboats this week.

Alex you know my situation on the trip so I don't want to add to the confusion of the feast. But if we are coming we will just bring food and were in for the wine tasting also that sounds like fun. We will need 7 bicycles as Tim and Deb will also be onboard during the flotilla so please add 2 to my dinner reservations. I'm in the back ground on the thread hoping we will make it.

Hope you will be able to make it Joe. Hope all goes well with the arrival of your granddaughter!

Harold,
We have 23 boats on the first page. I'll do the headcount tomorrow.

Joe,
That would be great if you guys, including Tim and Debby could make it.

Here's how I think would be the easiest to make the wine tasting work:
1. Each crew brings wine of their choice and a small plate of hors-d'oeuvres.
2. Make a small tag with basic description of the wine and the grape.

WHEN and WHERE:

Most likely we would hold the event one night in MV. Exact date and time is yet TBD. I can volunteer Inspiration as the base ground for the night.

Here's another idea. How about holding a Captains Knowledge Sharing Session. We pick a night to hold it, probably the best time in the evening hours after dinner during cocktails. We can choose several topics, something that's not used by majority but is very important. For example, majority of the group has a radar installed, people might accustomed to run it during the day. But, do you really use it and fill comfortable relying 100% on it when "the lights go out"? Or we can pick topic on some cool gadgets. These are just random thoughts. If you guys like the idea, let's pick a topic and a captain (we can have more than one) with good knowledge will do the quick demo sharing some tips and tricks.

Alex,

Don’t worry about the count, I think I have the idea I need to get the supplies. (I will slightly over estimate anyway and any extras can be used by everyone during the trip and for the wine tasting event too)

The wine tasting sounds like a good idea. We can offer our boat as the host if needed as well.I am not really a wine drinker, but knowing several people that are, are we looking to put some parameters on the wine selection?Such as a particular region (Italy, Chile, Southern California, Australia, France, etc) or type of grape or red/white, etc.Leaving open to any type of wine from any region will most likely yield a broad range of wines from all over the world, but specifying a type or region lets everyone sample a class of wines with a particular flavor. (At least this is what Arlene’s wine tasting club says….)

The Captain’s Knowledge Sharing Session sounds interesting as well.
I guess it is a more formal version to some extent of what we already do, after a few cocktails of course…. As a topic, we can compare features and technology on MFDs/Plotters/Sounders. I know mine is the "old Technology:smt100" and Ron's boat has the "latest and greatest:wow:" in integration and features.

We may be out for the bike tour. To quote Ross on last years flotilla we would be in for a world of "drama". We got lucky in Newport last year with the motorized scooters However the wine tasting and the "Captain's Knowledge Sharing" are great ideas. Even swapping "holycrap" stories and what we learned from them may be a good topic. Of course this will be geared to the Captains and the Admirals will be on their own.
