Greetings to all,

Learning from the past that some preferred places get booked before we had our plans formed, I’d like to start planning our flotilla much earlier now.

WHEN:
The “CSR Northeast Flotilla 2016” will be held on the week of July 30th to August 8th
The “Feast of the East” will be scheduled for Saturday July 30[SUP]th. [/SUP]We will start setting everything up around 5pm and have the official party kick off at 6pm.
Updated 6/21/16: Everything has been arranged with Taylor's Island: (http://taylorsisland.org/)

FINAL ITINERARY:
Updated Itinerary as of 2/2/16:
Port 1: Shelter Isl (Rafting in Coecles Harbor)
Port 2: Vineyard Haven MV (Rafting in Lagoon Pond)
Port 3: Hyannis (Rafting in Lewis Bay)
Port 4: Montauk (Rafting in Lake Montauk)

Day 1 (7/30) - Shelter Isl (Feast of the East)
Day 2 (7/31) - in SI
Day 3 (8/1) - SI to MV ~ 85NM (4-5hrs cruise)
Day 4 (8/2) - in MV
Day 5 (8/3) - in MV
Day 6 (8/4) - MV to Hyannis ~ 20nm (1hr cruise)
Day 7 (8/5) - in Hyannis
Day 8 (8/6) - in Hyannis
Day 9 (8/7) - Hyannis to Montauk ~ 85-90NM (5hrs cruise)
Day 10 (8/8) - travel to home port day.

Docking Arrangements:

Considering the fact that all of the ports in our itinerary include option of protected anchorage, based on the feedback I've received so far, we plan on having a raft in all 4 ports. However, those who wish to stay in a nearby marina, feel free to make your reservation.

VHF Communication:
69- primary channel to communicate with the group.
16 - is always on. This will be the channel to use in case if we don't get response on 69. Once the communication is established with a vessel we'll ask to switch to 69.

FAQ (this is mostly for new people who didn’t have a chance to join us in the past)

Q1: How do I sign up?
A1: Simply post in this thread or PM me stating that you wish to participate. We'll need the following basic info, which will be placed on the first page in the list of the participants (table offerings can be left alone for now, as it will be addressed much closer to the Flotilla date):
[CSR name]: [crew names], [boat info], [Traveling From], [Docking in Port1], [Docking in Port2], [Docking in Port3],[Table Offerings]

Example:
"Alex F": Alex and Jelena, kids Michelle(19), Daniel(11), "Inspiration" 420DB, LIS area, Raft, Marina, Raft, TBD

Q2: How’s a Flotilla different from a regular Rendezvous?
A2: The group will not just meet up at a marina, but we will travel from port to port as a group and our destinations will be mixed between marinas, mooring and/or just anchorage in a beautiful cove or designated anchorage area.

Q3: Am I obligated to stay with the flotilla the whole week?
A3: Absolutely not. Anyone should feel free to join the flotilla and take off anytime they desire, or their schedule allows. We perfectly understand that you have other commitments/obligations.

Q4: Do we have to travel together from port to port?
A4: No. It’s obviously a lot more fun (and not to mention safer) to travel as one caravan, but if you wish to run on your own schedule (e.g. arrive to a destination earlier or later), feel free to do so and we’ll see you there.

Q5: What we do (activities wise) once settle in a port?
A5: We always try to come up with a list of fun activities that might interest most people. But, don’t forget that this is your vacation time and if you wish to do something totally different, by all means, we’ll sea ya later.

Q6: How’s dining arranged for the rest of the trip (after the official feast)?
A6: In the course of the whole week we’ll have mixed ways of dining. There are nights when we just want to have BBQ party (either on the rafted boats or a marina), but for the most part we’ll dine out as a group in fine local restaurants that will be able to accommodate our group. Thus, advanced reservations (at least one day in advance) will be necessary. But, as always, if you’d like to have your own arrangement, feel free to do so. No hard feelings.

Those are just few that came from the top of my head. Have more questions? Feel free to ask.

Cheers,
Alex.

Alex,
don't forget jonathan.

i have a question to pose for the group, while I love the idea of seeing all of the places listed, I also wonder about staying longer at each of the "choice" places and reducing the trip to just 3 ports. There are times that I would have liked to enjoy a destination for just a little longer, but it was time to head on. Thoughts?

This sounds like a great time. We've never participated in one of these, but I think we might be able to make the Vineyard and Hyannis stops, and I'll certainly be following the thread as it develops. "Be_Prepared": Ron & Pam, son Brad(23), "Beginnings" 340DA, Mattapoisett, MA

I feel the same as Harold it seems as if we have just settled into a routine at 1 port and before you know it it's time to wake up early and break the raft. I wouldn't be opposed to less ports and longer stays this year. Especially since we have " days at sea" for the longer haul.

Alex,
don't forget jonathan...

Jonathan who?????........See what happens when you don't show up for 2 years? :smt043

Sorry, my friend. clerical work is not my forte. I had you on the spreadsheet, but missed it on first page. It's updated now.

It's an idea, Harold. Which port do you propose dropping?

That is a tough decision. They all have their attractions. My choice would be to skip Block. It is nice, but just did not quite do it for us. The problem then becomes the run home gets real long. We will likely use Greenport or Montauk as a stop over on the way home anyway, so that could be our mid point from MV or Hyannis.

Here are the lates votes I've gathered so far.

I kind of like your idea. So, the itinerary would look as follows:

Port 1: Shelter Isl
Port 2: MV
Port 3: Hyannis

Day 1 (Sat 7/30) - Shelter Isl (Feast of the East)
Day 2 (Sun 7/31) - in SI
Day 3 (Mon 8/1) - SI to MV ~ 85NM (4-5hrs cruise)
Day 4 (Tue 8/2) - in MV

Day 7 (Fri 8/5) - in Hyannis
Day 8 (Sat 8/6) – in Hyannis
Day 9 (Sun 8/7) – Hyannis to home port

How does this look for the rest of the group?

We are in for at least some of the trip. I will have to see how work plays out as we get closer to see how much time off I can manage. Looking forward to seeing everyone again. If you need any local help or knowledge as we move forward with plans please don't hesitate to ask.

Sounds great, Jeremy. Got you on the first page.

Hi guys,
Like Harold and Joe, I could stand 3 ports too. I'd probably skip block as well. I'll be going to Montaulk for a few days after the flotilla regardless of the other destinations. My votes thus far. Excited about Hyannis too.

Great idea planning early! We were not able to get our days off/trip plans to coincide with last years trip but we will likely join at least part of it this year.

For MV my vote is Tashmoo, then Lagoon pond

"swaterhouse": Scott and Roseann, Jenna(3), "Daddy's Toy" 44DA, New Bedford, MA

Looking forward to it, Jonathan. You've missed some really cool trips, it's time to play a catch-up.

Alex,
If we did only 3 ports on the trip and you had the choice, would you spend an extra day in MV or in Hyannis? And why?

I guess this could be another topic for another vote...... I think I am loosing track of how many things we have to vote on.
