Cockpit TV

No sag at all really. the mounting arm has adjustable screws for tensioning the play on how it articulates so it would all depend on how loose you leave the screws.

I keep them tight and when i am under way the whole articulated arm is collapsed on it's self to take all the play out of it. haven't had any issues since I installed it and it has seen some hard pounding.

Do you guys find 19" TVs big enough for the cockpit?

I went with the same set-up as "Thebillcollector" did above, I ordered from my SeaRay dealer the mounting bracket and pole. It is nice quality stainless steel (it should be I paid $220 for it) with a socket/base mounting plate. It looks great installed just forward of my cockpit sink and is high enough so as to let me still use my sink when you lift the cover on it's gas assist. Went with the Sharp ultra-thin 19" tv (Costco $349). I can't believe how much we use it. I hardly ever go down in the cabin now to have the TV on as I can have it on in the cockpit. I also tied it into one of my Direct TV recievers so I can use that remote as well and I have the suround sound hooked into my Clarion Cockpit stereo which ties into my Bose down below thru the AUX input, sounds great. As a matter of fact-I will watch the Wings win the Stanley Cup on it tonight!

Petep/Mark,
I wander what that $200 mount look like. Are you guys happy with that TV from costco? I assume ultra-thin makes it lighter and smaller?

Ok, the 19" is ok but bigger would be nicer but then you get this huge thing out there that you are lugging up and down and more stress on your mount whatever way you go... The only downside to the aft deck is bright sunlight wipes out the viewing during the day. My wife & I love sitting out early evening to whenever watching a DVD or Direct TV (we've got our M3 Satellite plumbed into it). And yes the SeaRay mount is around $200 I recall, but is very nice way to go.
(and doesn't hurt it match's the new Rays) I had 2 drink holders on the wet bar sink counter and removed one (towards stern) got a round plastic disc (larger then drink holder opening) drilled a hole in the middle of it and mounted the flush fit fishing rod pole holder (is what it looks like)......

Yeah, I thought about a bigger TV but, it looks like the right size for the area. I also thought the same thing as Mark said above, I didn't want it to move too much. I have a Sunbrealla cover my wife made and the thing just looks "right". If I want a bigger screen I go down in the cabin and watch my 23" flat screen. I find that I can still see the TV in sunlight but the evenings/night are by FAR the best. I put on my windsheild UV sunscreen (looks like black plastic screen) and it does help quite a bit. Also gives us privacy from the dock. You do have to watch what you put on the screen as in the cockpit everyone else can see what you have on! No "Cinemax Late Nite" on that TV!

...but then you get this huge thing out there that you are lugging up and down...

That and that sheet of glass that makes up the LCD screen wouldn't survive being banged against something when you're trying to stow it. I'm looking to use a laptop (or similarly padded) bag to store it to avoid damaging it when stowing it below.

Bill the bagman. You got a bag for just about everything on your boat, don't you. Now you just need to have a bag made for the entire boat, and you'll have it all. (If you ever buy a Sea Ray that is.) :smt001

Alex F;

I got the bracket at BJ's for $50 before I saw it on line at Home Depo for $30 so I'm kind of bumed I could have saved some bucks.

as for the TV rating it says it will handle up to a 27", I have the 15" polariod on it with the built in DVD player.

all in all it wasn't a bad deal.

$250 for TV at Target
$100 for the mounts

watching 70' era Speed Racer cartoons with you're son for the first time he sleeps on the boat with you. Absoluetly PRICE LESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Tom,
I think this is very nice setup. If I still had my 240 I would do very similar setup. I'll keep it in mind for my 320. I think it should work nicely, but I just want to find what else is there.

here is a pic of mine...i installed it in the wine cooler which i have never used for any other purpose....i removed cooler (which took an act of congress to reach all those screws) and built a wooden frame the same size as cooler and slipped it back in cooler and then reinstalled the cooler with extra screws for support...i also ran my coax and my power at the top of the cooler... then mounted tv on a pole which slips into the wooden frame that i made. when not using the TV i can simply slide it out and then put lid to cooler back on and you would never know a tv goes there.

That's some nice setup.

I went to my local MM and they showed me one installation where the mount looked like rod holder. The tv wasn't there, but salesman said the leg mounts to a specific tv and they sell it as a kit. He wasn't sure but he guessed that everything runs around $1500.
I'm waiting for a parts man give me some real number just on the mount. I don't buy that this mount is made for one tv only.

Thanks for the info on the mount on ebay for $24.99, free shipping and no sales tax. I jumped on it and received it in just 3 days. Going to work on install this coming weekend.

The Stainless Steel Bracket that I used is SeaRay Part # 1788514, along with SR part # 1013762 (this is the black Grommet/Flange/Insert or coverplate for the audio.video cables and the power cord to run thru. Look at any late model 480/ or 52DA, this is the mount that they are using, very heavy duty, very happy with mine!
