I have a 270 SE with everything but a generator. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with carry on generators. I'm considering one just for running my AC. I want something small and quiet but powerful enough to do the job. I have a friend who uses a Honda, but was wondering if there are any other brands that would be just as good.

Hey Honey, pop some popcorn!

SJ - prepare yourself for a wild ride - or just do a search on this topic.

Understand this....Talk of a portable generator on this board is a hot topic item, and you will get a lot of negative comments. It is hard to tell who is looking to stir the pot, or asking a legitimate uninformed question...Assuming the latter, expect to learn a lot in the next 24 hrs :smt101 happy reading...

I'm going into hiding on this one !!. :smt043
I'll talk to you guys after the smoke clears.

Hondas are VERY popular around here, and I have not heard of anyone dying from one yet. Just be smart about how you use it and where you put it and it will be just fine. Also, make sure you have a good CO detector. Many more people die from other boating accidents than portable generators, but we all still take that risk.

Why did open this post? Why, why, why!

At Ease, I have beer in my hiding room. :smt001.

You can hideout here and drink with me until its over. :smt043

I hope you have plenty stocked up!

Can you drink 4 30 packs at one sitting ?? If yes. Then I don't have enough in the hiding room. :smt043

I just love Newbie questions. Poor $astard has no idea what he has opened up.
Whenever it says generator in the topic I just can't wait to read it.
I enjoy it as much as the days of Four suns VS. Wing!ess.
It's all good stuff.

All kidding aside !!. You can use them SAFELY on a boat . :smt001
Its all about common sense when NOT to use them !!
NEVER when you are going to bed for the night !!. :smt021

Most of that applies to ALL generators, not just portables. When it comes to CO poisoning, when used properly (i.e. NOT on bows) I do not see any add'l hazard with a portable vs an onboard genny.

Portable generators are useful when temporary or remote electric power is needed. However, if used incorrectly, gasoline, kerosene, and other gas-powered generators can cause carbon monoxide poisoning, electric shocks, fires, and burns. Generator accidents can be fatal!

Blaming a portable genny for killing people when used improperly is like saying guns kill people.

I want a gun right now i can tell you that.

OMG are you kidding me. My butt hasn't healed up from all the popcorn I ate from the last go around.:smt009
Can we just start a new forum topic for gensets??? :smt038

The beach we usually stay at is a State Park (Kinnikinnic) on the St Croix. They have a rule....no generators (portable or onboard) after 11pm. That is "quiet time", but I wonder if safety is another reason for this rule?
