Cant beat an 80s era sundancer

AC seat at dinette.
My seat top just lifts off, no hinges or locks.

My fridge is only working on 120V, I have power to the breaker but I still need to check the wires at the fridge but this means pulling the fridge. Does anyone know if they put an inline fuse at the back of the fridge for the 12v?

Ken
Ken;
Just finished working behind there while installing a microwave, I did not see any fuses, just a power line that comes off of the cigarette lighter socket by the safety box.

Thanks for the reply

I hope it is as simple as a bad connection, I will pull the fridge and have a look. If the 12v side is shot I will install a small inverter for the fridge.

Hey Ken, Sorry I have not been around. Yes, I raised the platform 4 inches. The problem you will have if you do this...is you will need to fill the indented area at the front of the platform where it meets the transom. When you raise it, you will be higher than the area that protrudes out of the transom. Dont go too deep with the platform, the deeper you make the platform, the longer the new support tubes will need to be. You dont want to get too far away from 45 degrees.

I will also be raising it and filling the back section. I want to go 2' wider and add two more bars that will go close to the outer edge. I will keep the 3 bars I have now and keep the angle the same. I've got a lot of projects on the go right now and only a week before I leave for 7 weeks on the boat.

Ken

I'm envious, SEVEN WEEKS on the boat! Thats fantastic, enjoy every minute of the time you can spend on your pride and joy.

Hey Ken, PM me with your e-mail. I will send you all of the detailed photos of the platform job you will need. I am having trouble resizing the photos for this site. Dave

Scorpio, I got her out for the maiden voyage two weeks ago. I did not want to hammer it, due to a 3/4 tank of older fuel, but she planed qiuickly, at about 3100 rpms. The boat sounds very happy at 3500-3600 rpms, running at 30 mph on the gps. Afriend took some photos while i was up on plane, the water was breaking just behind the radar arch, she was sitting nice in the water at cruise speed, with the platform about 12 inches off the water.

88dancer300,

Could you also PM me with the pics of the platform work you did? I have my off right now for a used stock replacement, but would like to raise and extend mine as well.

Thanks!

Dont know how to send a PM. If you can PM me with your e-mail, I will send you all of the photos of the stretch. Thanx, Dave

had the same problem and found that the ground was on the hot side of the battery and now it works fine.

If you want to post pix on here open a PhotoBucket Account and put your pix on there it will give you a IMG code copy and paste here.

Will do. Thanx for the photo bucket tip.

It was going through a no wake zone with me so I had to take a picture. It had a couple mean sounding engines. Yea I love them too I had a 84 242LS and really miss it. I think they are the best boats out there.

Greetings All,
Very new here at CSR.

After many years dreaming and doing the things that had to be done, my better half dropped the "When are we getting a boat?"
line on me.:smt038 Moments later, I regained consciousness....

I've always been enamored with the style and specs on the late 80's Sundancers. Specifically, the 300's. Although this will be my first boat, I've driven, and helped to maintain smaller craft. I've personally rebuilt automotive engines and have a very strong background in electronics and electrical. That being said, there is not alot that I don't think I could handle with the mechanical and electrical aspects of a boat. But that's where the confidence ends.

My goal is to hire a surveyor only once.

I'm an engineer by trade, so I have this want to know and understand everything there is to know about something built into my DNA. So here I am.

I guess what I'm looking for initially is a 'make sure you take a close look at this' list for a late 80's 300 Sundancer.
There will be 1001 and one more questions after that

Any thoughts or input anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

don't leave out the weekenders.with the inboards they can't be beat.the only thing you lose is the aft cabin but if you boat in salt water the inboard really is the better choice.I looked at many 300 DA's before the weekender I bought and couldn't be happier with my choice.these 80's era boats are tanks.I can't believe the new boats are getting smalller and the price tags.I love to go to the boat shows, check out the new models and leave happy with what I have.now to just get a 390 I would be set.

Get a 390 ... you won't be sorry.

Johngus,

The Weekender was in contention right up to the very end of the decision making process. She will be in fresh water so the sterndrives should be ok, just another maintenance item. The reason for going with the Sundancer was the extra space and what it could be used for. Although if the right Weekender showed up I'd have to take a very serious look.
