Cant beat an 80s era sundancer

I re-did my boot stripe a few weeks ago.
My boat has blue trim and canvass, so I went with a Navy 3", with a metallic 1" silver stripe about an inch above it.

So as you know if you have been reading this thread I removed the side stripe on my boat. When I arrived at the marina this morning the owner and the staff thought they would but a new stripe and a name on the side. The owner is my best friend and I get the best deal on a slip of any body any where. Here is what they did.

YUP ! Its a sickness isn't it.

88dancer300, are those marine shielded speakers? You may want to swing your compass after installing all those magnetic fields. Compile a deviation table for your boat and keep it with your boat papers. If you do any navigating by compass, you'll have to apply your deviation to all courses plotted. Remember TVMDC "True Virgins Make Dull Companions At Weddings".

Yes they are. I will check the compass once she is in the water. Thanx.

Scorpio, Have you ever removed the back support cushions in the dinette? I want to reupholster them, but I see no fasteners al all???? I am kind of baffeled. Oh by the way, I picked up a box of the ALURE flooring product in the teak, at Home Depot. I think it is going to work real well in the boat. Here is some info on the product. It is called Allure Teak # 53712 SKU # 487-900. It is $42.96 per box that covers 24 square ft. Its $1.79 square ft. The box containes 16 interlocking self adehesive 6"X36" planks. Boy I will tell you, I have done a lot of work with teak, and this stuff is very convincing on the look. I brought it into the boat, and threw a few pieces on the floor. You would never know that it is a vinyl product. It even has an extremely detailed raised grain to it. Cant wait to install this product. (very rich looking) I am not looking forward to stripping out the carpet though.

88sundancer- I am so glad you asked this question, i was just going to post this. I have all other cushions done and I want to tackle these back cushions next. I too wonder how they are attached.

Sorry, I haven't had to remove mine, but I think they are attached by screws from under one of the fabric buttons. Sea Ray likes to hide screws under them. They are tough to find as you usually can't see the screw, you can only feel them with a thin phillips bit. Usually the hole they went in is visable so you can find which button they hid them under.
On the flooring, did you find out if they sell stair noses for the Allure? You are removing your carpet, I'm going to try to put it down over the carpet. The stuff on the sides is in great shape and we're going to keep that just cover the uglied out stuff on the floor.

On the compass, check against know charted bearings to fixed objects like towers, light houses, smoke stacks etc. Don't forget that charts are in true not magnetic so you'll have to convert to magnetic to verify your compass. I also carry a hand bearing compass to double check my mounted compass.

Scorpio is right, the screws to remove the dinette back rests are behind the buttons. I just pulled mine. It is best to pull the button right out and cut the old cushion fabric open so you can locate the screw(s). One side had one screw per button, the other side had three to four screws per button.

I figured that was where they hid the screws. Searay is crafty at hiding stuff ! Scorpio, Allure does not have make any trim, mouldings or stair bullnose. Maybe you could modify another mfg. bull nose. I am going to rabbit out the edge of the stair, and make a real teak bull nose, also will do this on the dinette platform. I suppose the floor could be laid down right over the carpet, as it is a floating floor. I will post photos when I tackle this project. Dave

A link to some pics of my 1987 286 Sundancer. I've had the boat for 8 years it was a mess when I got it but I put it back together when I got it and just maintain it now. I want to change the dash panels and switches but haven't found a supplier for the burled wood engraving stock for the panels...if anyone knows where to get a suitable product let me know.

Sorry the teak is dirty...I didn't know anyone was stopping by!

Looks great! I miss my 87 250 DA! There was soooo much room in the engine compartment even with the 454. I love the new gauges on your dash too. Those really do update the dash! I miss mine... :smt089

Beautiful Katz. I did my instrument panels on my 260 in teak. There are pictures somewhere earlier in this thread. You could also contact Scott at Vector Imaging. He is a sponsor on this sight who makes instrument and switch panels. I have seen his work. It is outstanding.

Oops. The pictures I referred to are actually in another thread on the third page titled "The Official Pre Clinton Sport Cruiser"

I recently purchased a 1989 300 Sundancer Twin Volvos 200hp diesel which has been intensively renovated in the last 3 months. I have a top speed of around 34 Knots, however the boat takes a long time to get to planning stage. The propellers are VOLVO A5 I want to try the A4 propellers. Anybody else with some advise.

That is one nice looking boat - you have done a great job there.

Marcel, first welcome to the forum, I can't offer any advice on diesels in these boats, since gas engines were the norm for these boats in the states. I wish mine had diesels. All I can offer is that with twin Merc. 260s and Alpha drives swinging 14x19 props, my boat takes a long time to plane also. These boats are heavy for their size and 400-500 hp. isn't too much power for them. I usually trim the drive all the way in and drop my tabs and then push the throttles smoothly from idle to about 3/4 and wait for her to plane out.

Hey thanx for the compliment ! She has been a labor of love. Scorpio, what is your cruise speed and RPM? Also, do you have heat/air and the generator? How much fuel to you typically carry? My 88 has the 5.7s fresh water cooled with the Alphas. The previous owner had his service center do a wide open throttle test on it, (full tanks of fuel) and has installed a pair of 16"X16" 3 blade wheels. Owner said it planes quickly and cruises comfortably. I have not had her in the water yet.
