Cant beat an 80s era sundancer

JVM, Mine does not have that switch that you have. I cant imagine what it would be for??? Is it a factory searay switch and green indicator?

Yes, it looks to be. I haven't found anyone else that has it though. The 270's are common around here, but there aren't nearly as many 300's so it's hard to find another one to compare it too..
How did you do the hardwood floor up forward where it contours up, on the steps, and the trap hatch for the shower sump?
My carpet needs replacement, and the prices to have it done are crazy. A wood floor might be a nice alternative.

JVM, I have not started the floor yet. Mine does not have a trap door in the floor, whats in it? I am not too woried about the contour in the floor, I will figure something out. LOL. The steps will be easy, I am going to use a piece or the flooring and router the edge to make a bull nose. If I go with the alure vinyl product, Im not sure how to handle the step edges. I guess I could rabbit the top edge of them and flush mount a peice of teak for the bull noses. I really want to lose the PRETTY pink carpeting !! It is not junk yet, but its showing its age. If I do tear it up, Im definitely doing a wood or wood look floor.

Scorpio, yes the Allure is the stuff I'm considering. It's something I could do on a hot day while swimming and enjoying the boat! It would handle the slope near the V and I think they make some kind of plastic bullnose for stairs too, but I haven't confirmed that yet.

I started her up today! WOOHOOOOooooo!!! I forgot to tighten one hose on the starboard engine, but that was a piece of cake! Brought her up to temp and she hovered right at 145 on both engines! Now we're ready for the season! I just need to clean her up! I also added air to all six tires, greased the bearings, checked the battery on the trailer, added water to the batteries in the boat and all I have left is to do is sanitize the water system!

Greta idea Sundancer on the official 80s era sundancer thread. Can we change the name of the thread? I am a true rookie here on the site. Again,I cant thank you enough for turning me on to it !! I have a bunch of high resolution. remodel photos of my completely remodeled and updated cockpit and dash, stretched platform with under mount ladder and under platform lighting, dual stereo systems, stripped bottom to gellcoat, all new stripes, 24 individual indirect LED light pods in the cockpit, Stripped the windshield frame and gouged up rub rail down to the aluminum, doing the dinette upholstery over, and installing a 3/4" teak hardwood floor in the cabin, although, I am very interested in the Alure product as well. and am going to replace the benson windlass with a new Lewmar stainless steel chain gypsy widlass. Ive been kicking ass on this thing since I got it this Feb. Cant wait to get her in the water! I am trying to make this a classy 88 classic dancer with late model amennities. Oh, I replaced and added all new chrome searay emblems badges and 300 insignias, and a mahogany and and stainless steering wheel! Looking for stainless steel bilge vents. Dave

Dave, show us your photos!!!! Put them on photobucket or flickr!!!

I am in the process of restoring my 390 and any new idea would be much welcome!!

Here's what I'm proudly doing:

Wow Peitro, you have quite a project goin over there! Looks great. I will try to get a photo bucket account going so I can share some pics. It is great to see what others have done. It sparks the mind!......Just what we all need....More projects. LOL. I guess its a labor of love. Sundancer, whose rig is that, with the bamboo floors? That looks great. Dave

I am also new to Searay family. Its our first Searay. 1985 270 Sundancer. Last boat was a small sea sprite. BIG change for us. I am totally syked to get this project of mine going. I am very impressed with things I am learning on this sight. I was wondering how is the laminate floor working out due to water issues? Flooring looks great in pictures....I will work on getting pictures on flikr as I go.

The trap door goes over the space that the shower drains in to. There is a pump and float switch in there to pump out the water that gathers in there from the shower drain.

Wow!!!!
That floor looks fantastic. Is that the Alure Flooring?
It looks like the abgle up forward was leveled out. Whaat is the trim on the edges and the face of the steps?

The floor is DWeaver's. I posted them for him. It's a wood floor so I'm not sure how it will do with water. It looks great however!!

I think I will look int Alure flooring. Its inexpensive and they claim the water and moist enviroment will not affect it.

Here are a couple of pics of my swim platform stretch in prosess. One more layer of biaxial glass tomorrow, and I can start fairing it. Got the bottom stripped to the gel coat, Removed all of the dried out cracked stripes, have the transom assemblied ready for etch primer and paint, tripped the rubrail and winshield frame to alluminum due to corrosion and flaking anodizing. I am also planning to raise the platform up on the transom 4". They sit too low on the 300 and 44 dancers with generators and strern drives.

That v-berth area has me the most concerned about using real wood. I'd like to know whay DWeaver did to cope with that slope. I asked about the step noses as well and there is a stair nose make for the flooring. The "baseboard" is some type of quarter round I think.
I don't know if the Alure flooring has stair nose molding or not, couldn't find a clerk at HD today.

Hey all- that flooring looks great. I am looking into new flooring for my boat and I found this website

http://www.nuteak.com/

Any input would be appreciated.

I saw that installed on the swim platform of a 60 ft boat. It looked cheap and very much a fake.

One thing that has bothered me since the day I bought the boat was the pin stripe about 5" above the water line, it makes the boat look like it is sinking. Just look at some of the pictures of the 300 DA's, they look like they are sinking, I've had people ask me why is the boat sitting so low in the stern. Well no more sitting low in the stern, the strip is gone and it has a real nice clean look.

I splash Friday, I will take a few pictures of her in the water then and post them. Not going to have a chance to widen the swim platform as the marine wants my boat in the water. I might be able to pull it the last week in May and do that modification then.

The slope in the front by the vberth I just left covered by carpet because its not just a slope, its actually curved as well. Therefore the 3/4 inch wood would not go down well. I did put a flat finishing edging piece over the transition from wood to carpet. They do make stair edging and bullnose and quarter round for the various finishing areas

Dave, once you are at the platform, go for a www.swimplatforms.com it will really make for a new boat

Hi Ken. I agree with you on the boot stripe. They all look like they are sinking! I removed mine too. I am going to reinstall it, but I am going to lower it in the bow, by 2 inches, and raise it in the stern by 4 inches. I took a good lazer level outside at night, and shot a line 2 inches above my actual water scum line (ocean boat),and marked the new line so the new double boot stripe will now follow the water line. I am using a burgandy 2" and a burgandy 1" stripe. NO MORE SUNKEN SUNDANCER ! LOL

This is a little storage area a made for the dingy motor, while remodeling the cockpit. It really fit quite well. Also holds a gallon of fuel!
