Buff Magic

Barry,

Since we are all coming into our spring cleaning time with our boats, will you offer a discount to CSR memebers if we purchase the Buff Magic and the Pro Polish? I ordered the buffer about a year ago and really like. Every dime we can save these days will help.

Thanks,

Perry

I used Buff Magic back in the summer with pretty good results. I used it a couple of weeks ago and it was gummy and very hard to remove. Did it go bad, was it too cold, did I wait too long to wipe it off? It seems as thou it never dried. I ended up having to clean it of with soapy water and a brush and even then it gummed up the brush.

Barry,
Thanks so much for joining in the discussion. I belong more in your camp than the professional advice, while I am sure true, Carver370 has offered. My questions are more focused on what speed should I be using your DA polisher at when compounding with Buff Magic and how thick it should be applied before applying the buffer? The foam pad has made polishing far easier for me but I am still trying to find my way around compounding with your product. My boat is very lightly oxidized and I am using Buff Magic to make the gelcoat smoother before applying polish.

Use a 3" cheap paint brush to apply a thin layer of Buff Magic to the area. Work in a 2' square and with the brush paint lines of BM randomly through about 50% of the area. Then using the WOOL PAD and the Dual Action Polisher start at a speed of about 3. Be patient and let the polisher do the work. Once you have worked the area a minute or 2 bring the speed up to a 4 or 5 for a minute. Then wipe away any excess with a towel.

Let me know how that works for you.

I have never seen this issue before. The product should be fine unless it was left open, but even then it would not get gummy. It sound like there is something on the hull that is gummy that the product is trying to clean off.

Sounds like it was too cold. How cold was it? Did you shake the product?
I've never used Buff Magic or Pro Polish but it sounds similar to issues I've had working with product in colder temps. For me waxing/polishing is ideal if it's 60 degrees +

It was a little over 60 but under the covered shed.

Here is some 1994 Gelcoat after being buffed by Buff Magic with a white wool pad and followed by Meguiars Flagship wax. The Pro-polish doesn't work well with Carvers gel coat. I use the same process on the top but substitute the Flagship for another product.

Barry,
I knew my problem had to be technique not the tool and patience is a virtue that more often than not escapes me. I simply have to stay at it longer on each spot. When I try your suggestions I will post my results! Thanks again.

Awesome, it sure does help!

Now.... can anyone give me a good idea on how much Buff Magic and Pro Polish I should purchase to completely do a 280DA? I want to make sure I get plenty to do the job.

And is it true that Sea Ray uses Buff Magic and Pro Polish to buff the hulls at the factory on brand new boats? I saw a Shurhold YouTube video last night that mentioned it in a Ship Shape TV bit.

I did it in caps and it keeps coming back with small letters. Maybe you do have to buy both. I just figured it would give the discount on the can of buff magic.

EDIT!!! Got it! You def have to get the two!

I wonder what Oprah is going to do with all that stuff?

(Sorry, O couldn't resist!)

By the size of her I think she is going to spread it on a bagel and eat it for lunch :smt038

Only if you move it inside to heated comfy indoor storage like where mine is located. My union contact does not permit outdoor buffing!:smt043
