Atlantic City Rendezvous 2011

It is definitely the "long" trip of the year.

Some days we go 2 or 3 miles and drop anchor. Some days we'll go 50 - 100 miles at a time. With the occasional run up the Bay to join some of the other miscreants on this forum.

Did you have fun at your wedding?

Good info.

The wedding was decent. It was one of my best friends from grade school. Now this weekend I have another wedding. Between two bachelor parties and two weddings, I have lost a total of 4 great boating weekends.

When Rick and Gary say they're going on the trip, it means they'll be crossing few states....LOL.

But seriously, we have to give big credit to falks who travel very long distances to participate in CSR Rendezvous.

320NM each way or total?

Anyway, my hat is off to you guys.

Ocean City, NJ can't accommodate a group as large as ours, unless they are way down on seasonal slip holders. Also, the marinas are miles from the beach and real close to absolutely NOTHING. We rented a car both times we went down there (two different marinas). I guess it's no worse than cabs and jitneys but at least AC has some decent hotels within walking distance.

Also of note, OC is a dry town. It does boast NJ's longest boardwalk, though. We really enjoyed our stays there, but not sure it would hold the interest of everyone else.

I'm not a big fan of AC. There really isn't much to do there if you don't like to gamble. The boardwalk is a long way away and riding the Jitney is... well... riding the Jitney. I'm not sure a pool on the "6th floor" qualifies as a "destination."

We are going to be in the NE next summer. My goal is to take the boat and dogs to Maine and then fly the family in (what's left of them) and work the boat back to Virginia over a month or so... AC is "on the way" home... but so is New York or any other destination on the east coast.

As a side, I've been at Liberty Landing Marina and they have made some big improvements there since I was there a few years ago. We stayed there 5 days this year and they have a new store, another restaurant, spa-like showers, nice docks, good power, friendly staff, a park, and a BUNCH of stuff to do a ferry across the Hudson. Here's the view we had as the sun went down (Freedom Tower in the center):

It sure looked like there was plenty of room there to hold a get together... They don't have a pool but... so what.. I know some of the Chesapeake Bay contingent would go if it was in NY... We'll be there for a few days and do Broadway again... that's always fun.

Liberty Landing is a great marina as long as you stay in the park area and don't wander the streets. The park is huge and well kept. Just don't swim off the docks.

There's no doubt about the avoidance of swimming... You could go to Coney Island and hang out with "those people". I went down there on the 4th of July this year, waiting in line for an hour to get a chili dog:

Hang with the freaks on the boardwalk:

and ride a wooden roller coaster that was built in 1927 and maintained by Trump Marina:

Scariest damn thing I did in my life. The chili dogs were good...

Wow, you went all the way to Coney Island and rode the friggin Cyclone? NICE! I grew up 2 miles from there and wouldn't go at this point. You got bawls!

How'd you get there? Limo or the D train?

It's been on my "Bucket List" to do that.

We did the train...

Turtle - You used to make that trip in you 280... is the ride tolerable or are you getting pretty torn up?

I'm down for Wildwood. This was my first time going with ClubSeaRay and had a great time. Let's really talk about Wildwood But we need to make it more then a weekend, maybe 4 night,

All the big boys go "outside" in the mighty Atlantic. Us sissies only go out when conditions permit (or in really thick fog). I took my 19' Regal across from near Coney Island to Sandy Hook once. I attempted "the crossing" a bunch of times but had to turn back. When conditions are right, you can take any boat anywhere. Unless you're Rod. Then you can take any boat anywhere, anytime, even in 15' seas ;-)

If that was the D train, you passed my stop on your way (20th Avenue).

Wow Stillwell Ave Station!! Brings back a lot of Memories of Sea Gate!!! Just got a call from MM, Boat's Done
Don't tell my wife the Head is Fixed!!!!

Alright, that was an easy one. OC is out. That leaves us between AC, Wildwood and Liberty Landing.

Gary,

Your point is valid and I do agree. After all if NYC doesn't qualify for a destination I don't know what esle would. I have to say thought that for basic stuff like marina and shows you'll pay x2 or x4 in some cases compare to AC. But, hey...that's New York. The NYC and surrounding areas of Jersey City provides lots of interesting things to do. I also like the fact that trip to LLM opens another window of opportunity to travel further to Long Island sound and CT areas.....oh boy, I think I know how I'm going to vote already.
