And So The Journey Begins

The loss you take today will be very soon forgotten, and the peace you'll feel not always having to worrying about it will be well worth every penny.

My fingers are crossed for you.

Paul, I believe you made the right move. Once the decision is taken is better to sell as soon as possible, even with some loss... and looking at the markets these days, tomorrow could really be too late!

Damn I must have offended the gods at sometime cause this is not going too well. There is something very dodgey going on with thebuyer who wants to pay cash but doesn't want to sign amy contracts. My broker is recommending caution as they are suspiscious about where the money may be coming from.

Paul, good luck! You Aussies seem to be made out of the same Metal as Us!! Do your "Do Deligence" and listen to your "Solicitor"!
Cheers Mate!

Bugsy, I think our two countries are pretty similar in most respects. Our form of government is different as it is based on the English Westminster System but in everyday life we are very similar.

The potential buyer has no idea about boats or boating from the discussion I had with him on the phone yesterday. Had no idea what a VHF radio was or MMSI, no clue on fuel consumption or what the difference is between WOT and cruise speed.

All very strange, but so long as the contract gets signed and the money paid to my Brokerage then I a will be happy.

Well it gets stranger and stranger with this buyer. He has paid a large deposit to my broker but the boat is still on the hard with both engines removed being repaired. They needed new oil pans which should have been straight forward but the parts had to come from the USA and of course the mechanic ordered the wrong parts so then they had to re-order the correct ones. Anyway the buyer has been getting other businesses to work on the boat doing things like detailing the engine room and additional work to the engines etc, yet he told the mechanic working on the engines that he is not paying anymore to the brokerage till the boat goes back into the water. Fair enough I would want to see the boat running too but I would be damned if I would pay for work to be done to a boat that was not mine in the first place.

I hope for both our sakes that he goes through with the purchase once the boat is put back in, otherwise he is going to be out of pocket for the work he has had done on the boat. I already told the mechanic that I am only paying for the work that I authorized him to do and he acknowledged that.

Unfortunately the mechanic discovered that both shaft seals were cracked and need to be replaced so I gave the go ahead to have that done as if this deal does fall through with the buyer then at least I know the boat is safe and water tight.

Hi Paul,

sounds like you have the deal over the line...I guess everyone goes through a learning curve have a think about yourself and Rob I know I did. I had stuff done to my new boat without owning it. When she was on the slips being checked over by the surveyor I knew that it was cheaper to have her anti-fouled before being dropped back in the water. . Same goes with the engines, I saved over a thousand dollars by just having the engines serviced which was what I was going to have done anyway. In my case the boat was only a few years old and the engines had low hours. The boat was in pristine condition so reasonably easy to make that decision.
Ozzie..Just got back from the snow and see that Rob's is still having fun with his boat lol

Yes Ozzie you are correct but what I don't understand is why he got them to re-antifoul everything when I only had it done in February this year. Well if the deal does fall through at least I will have had a lot of stuff done on the boat for free. :)

Hi Paul,

noticed there is a new member on board from Brisbane who has just purchased a Searay flybridge 37..his previous boat was a riv3850 and a riv34 but prior to that he had a silverton which was the same vintage as yours..Could he have been one of the owners of your boat??

Could have been Ozzie, it looks like I am soon to be the ex owner as the sale is still continuing. The new prospective owner has had all kinds of work done on the boat now from having the bilge and engine room detailed to having the genset and air conditioner serviced.

The boat is going back in the water today and hopefully by the end of the week it will be sold.

Well I am still hoping the sale will conclude this week or next week. The engines are back in after two unsuccessful attempts at getting the right oil pans from the USA the mechanic sent the one pan out to have a new base welded to it and the other pan was still good so it did not need anything done to it.

What the mechanic found was that both shaft seals were cracked and letting in water so both shaft seals have been replaced. I am guessing the previous owner must have run the boat on one engine at a time and thereby overheated the shaft seals such that the ceramic cracked.

The buyer has had a ton of work done on the boat before settling on it which makes me believe he is pretty keen to take it. So far he has had the boat anti-fouled and had all the zincs replaced which is a bit strange as I had all this done in March this year. Something tells me that I got charged for something that was not done. He also has had the bilge and engine room detailed, the genset serviced and the airconditioner serviced.

I cannot wait for this sale to be over with as I have some major life changing events happening in the next few weeks and this boat is one thing I could do without having to worry about right now.

Paul,
I would not assume that your work wasn't done, even though that old mechanic was a butthole. Some people just like to be thorough and this guy may just want to start with a clean slate.

I hope the life changing events are good things and not more stress inducers.
Be well.

The life changing events are very good things for me and my wife and kids. If this all comes together as it should then I will be in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin on the 22nd of October for about 3 weeks. :) I have to be in Canberra, ACT , Australia this weekend for a very important dinner. I am flying down there on Saturday, arrive at 5 pm, have dinner with some important people, then fly back to Alice Springs on Sunday. I will know on Sunday if the rest of the events will kick into gear, if they do then I have a 32 day schedule to get everything done that needs to be done.

Paul,
That sounds like more of a punishment than a reward! ( joking)

I'm sure you'll enjoy your time here in Chippewa, make sure you get to the Linnie Lodge.

Just been watching the FATFAR on youtube, now that looks like something I could indulge in. lol Too much eye candy in that video. lol

you never know, it could be snowing by then.

Well that will be something entirely different for me as it never snows where I live at the moment. Most kids in Australia have never experienced snow.

They do give out free samples, brewery tours, and have some cool souvenirs

I would say by the time your 3 weeks are up, you'll of seen some.

Seriously though, if you need any info on the area, I'd be happy to share what I know.
