And So The Journey Begins

I don't believe how unlucky I have been with this boat, it just went back in the water to be taken back to the marina after having the oil pans replaced and bang there goes the port engine, followed shortly after by the starboard engine. Mechanic reckons that the port engine will need to be replaced wit a new long motor and the starboard engine has done an injector pump.

Oh man, is your mechanic the full quid??I wonder if he put oil back in the engines after he replaced the pans?? Both engines cactus?? Claim insurance!! they were working ok before this idiot got to them weren't they ?
Ozzie

Absolutely, what gets me is both the broker and the mechanic didn't want to call me to tell me about it. Eventually the mechanic called me and his words were "I have been dreading making this call to you." Didn't that make me feel like cr@p! I knew that the next thing would involve costing me an arm and a leg. $7K to replace the port engine and he never gave me a figure on the starboard.

I think I should be able to claim the port engine on my insurance?

THis is absolutely total BS. He screwed them up, guaranteed. I think it's time to lawyer up and have this repaired at their cost. How big an organization is the repair shop?

Agreed! You shouldn't have to pay a penny to fix that boat! Get a lawyer and ,ake them pay for their screw up and then have another shop do the work. This guy is not doing you any favors; meanwhile you are probably putting his kids through college with all the fees you are paying to him!

Just wanted to say that this was a different marine business than the last mechanic who broke the genset.

If it comes down to it I will use my insurance as it occured after the boat was accepted back from the sea trial, their opinion is that it is just bad luck and that the engines were working fine when they left their business.

Not sure at this time if the buyer is going throug with the purchase as he was going to repower the boat anyway, he is in the motorsport industry and was going to put a couple of marinised race engines into the boat. He has already spent around $10K on the boat so if he pulls out at least I will have a better boat to sell and the price will go up to compensate for the new engine.

Paul, This is a nightmare that never ends !!. :wow:

Just sink the b*tch and be done with it. .

PS, What water Gods did you piss off ??. :smt017

Thank God I didn't rename the boat could you imagine what would have happened if I had done that????? lol

Believe me the thought of scuttling it had occured to me more thn a few times. lol

Paul,
Just relax and take her for a nice cruise..............around the African Horn!

If your prospective owner was going to repower maybe you can negotiate with him. It is going to cost you money to have it fixed and then you need to find another buyer..Just maybe this guy might come to the party..I'd give him the 7K just to get rid of the boat and he can use that money for the repower

It has crossed my mind but I am already giving the boat away at the price he agreed to. They are having a discussion tomorrow to see if he still wants to proceed or not. If not I will get the engine replaced and then relist it at a more realistic price.

Now you know why I do my own work. I would be nuts too. :smt021

Has he been paying for all of this work that he has been doing? If the buyer walks without paying for them, wouldn't you could end up with a bunch of liens on the boat that you would have to pay off before you could sell it?

Well I am happy to report that the bane of my life has been sold. We have received the settlement money today and this journey is definitely at an end.

Thanks to all that have provided support on this thread, that darn boat proved to be one piece of crapola.

For now we will be boatless for a while as our lives have been turned upside down these past two weeks and we are now relocating to Canberra which is about 3000 kms away from where we are now. I start with my new employer on the 17th of October and fly to the USA on the 21st of October for 3 weeks. I feel very fortunate to have secured a position like I have and intend to make the most of the opportunity.

Good luck with your new job, but do not think it will be easy being boatless! Soon the bad memories will fade away and....

I'm glad things got settled for you. Where are you headed in the USA? Maybe a board member can take you out for a spin? I think you deserve it!

And So The Journey ENDS!

Good Luck!

Cheers Pietro, we will get another boat but probably not for 12 months as like any new job I will have no vacation time until I have completed 12 months.

Thanks bud, I am off to Chippewa Falls in Wisconsin. I would expect that you all would be close to winterising by the end of October wouldn't you?

And So The Journey ENDS!

Good Luck!

Yep it does with this boat.

Paul, see good thoughts do "Fly over the Water"! Good luck Mate!

Thanks Bugsy, it certainly is a relief to get this one off our books so to speak.

Hallelujah!!!!!! Good Luck Paul. I don't know if I would ever buy another boat if I had the experience you did with this one. Best of luck with the new job too. Glad this mess is behind you.
